Just because it's old doesn't mean that there was no instamine. Something like 80% of the total coin supply was emitted in the first three months when it was a generic scrypt clone called dogecoindark (I believe competing with another clone also called dogecoindark). Look at the difficulty of the first 10k blocks, there was no one mining - that's basically the definition of an instamine. Not so blatant as xcoin/darkcoin/dash, but probably more effective in the end.

Difficulty of block 100 was 0.0002:

During the same time period, Oct 2014 to Jan 2015, the difficulty of litecoin was 40000-50000, which about 5x of that difference is due to the difference in block time, I think doged was 30 s and ltc is 150 s, but that still makes about 1000-5000x more hashrate on the litecoin network at that time, so maybe a few ASICs were the entirety of the doged network, maybe 10 or 20 at the most.

Bottom line, there was basically no one mining dogecoindark when the vast majority of all the coins that will ever exist were created.

That's true.

That also may be true. So, someone did the instamine, then sold them the results.

Is very hard to know the full story behind the project, especially if you not followed closely and is already running two or three years.

I stopped to follow Verge about 6 months ago when the crash on the crypto market was in full swing. I have to admit that now is hard to grasp what happened in the last 6 months. There is no source to gain such a information easily.

Would be great to build such a tool for each cryptocurrency or token, where you will be able to find all the detailed information, announcements, updates and many more. With dates and full descriptions of what exactly happened. I think people will easily pay a lot $ for such a service.

I think quite a few people do use it to buy things, verge has a very large list of online stores which accept it, though most of those stores sell mostly particular products, the same goes for other currencies also, crypto as payment method is not widely adopted and we just don't have the same purchase options as we do with fiat. That can change very quickly when there is a payment option in physical stores.

People should hold, but they should also use verge as a currency, doing both these things will support the currency and keep its value up. But how do you hold and spend at the time? Well you do the same as you do with fiat, you have a savings account which you don't touch and you have separate spending account, so just divide up what your'e willing to save and what your willing to spend. If you don't ever want to touch your savings but support verge as a currency then when ever you want to buy something make the effort to convert fiat to verge and use that to make a purchase.

Bitcoin will be always the king and  just a few altcoins will survive, the utility and distribution are key to make coins stronger for the future. Verge working to get new vendors all the time are one of the best things this community have.

Bitcoin and the altcoins that will survive needs alot from Hodlers, hashrate distribution, full nodes, the more distribution the coin have less manipulation.

I feel that the price dip is a direct correlation with overall market crash, and not a problem with verge itself. Great development happening, with more and more vendors constantly being added.

The price chart of VERGE triggers my greedy feeling a bit, but I might wait a bit longer and buy the coin at much lower.

Not sure that VERGE will fall deeper or not, but it's always better to wait to buy as cheapest coins as possible to avoid losses and maximise profits.
