Quick vote: Who here would like a seamless upgrade from the old Auto Updating client to the new one? Or would you all be okay with simply uninstalling the old client and installing the new one?
We ask this as the latter would make for a faster release, but old clients would no longer receive updates, which defeats the purpose regardless of their version.
Just let us know. This is a big jump in functionality so we wanted to feel the community out on this one.

I don't mind an auto-updater, but I personally prefer the portable zipped file. I like doing things manually.

Well ofcourse there will still be a standalone client. It won't have the new features available right away but will over time. I'll have to redo some of the feature implementation to not care about directories in the next update after this one so that the standalone one can boast the new features as well, currently 805 will simply disable them if it notices you're not running the installed version. (Sadly I can't make everything happen all at once) im have no problem with a reinstall
Okay that's one vote for just a re-install. Quick vote: Who here would like a seamless upgrade from the old Auto Updating client to the new one? Or would you all be okay with simply uninstalling the old client and installing the new one?

I suggest not to waste your time on the Auto update, troubleshoot it etc... let us do some work Cheers and vote number 2... Well I'm leaning towards just requesting users to re-install, after this the updater will be able to patch any portion of itself even if future updates change things around further. We made sure to make it so that we don't have to repeat this kind of a situation again.

Anyone capable of running cryptocoin wallets should have no problem managing manual installation of them.
Auto-update is a nice "show-off" feature but IMO ultimately pointless.
I myself at least prefer manual upgrades

well you see, with the latest installation you will have a choice to turn off the auto-updating or keep it on (set to on by default). The standalone client is more of a classic or full manual client that has not yet been configured for the new features or in reverse, the new features configured to run dynamically through a standalone client. Hence the installer will still be a required thing for the next couple of updates.

Yes, my opinion too. Okay then you'll like the new update as it gives you the option on whether or not to use the auto-updater. Final question for you folks is this then: does anyone mind having to install the client through an installer to use all of the features? again the standalone version (non-installed/portable/whatever you want to call it) will be missing these features for a little while as dynamically supporting them wasn't something we were immediately focused on) Espersd stop; git pull; make; espersd -daemon So I can't vote :-D
Love it! (that's how we upgrade our nodes haha)

any good mac miner for this?
I've built ocminer's cpu miner ( https://github.com/ocminer/cpuminer-hmq1725) using both homebrew and macports after making a few code changes, but there is no downloadable binary for a mac miner that includes the hmq1725 algo. If you know enough to give building it a try it can be worthwhile. If you do try and have any questions, you can PM me and I will do my best to help with any trouble that you run into. The optimized cpuminer by joblo uses instruction sets that are formatted differently from how clang wants to run them, so it is much more difficult to make work on mac, and I have yet to get it compiled. For sgminer, I haven't tried to compile that yet. I might try and tackle it at a later date, but because I have no video cards in my mac, I cannot reliably test it.

Currently the installer still chooses the path for you which is: "C:\Users\YOURUSERPROFILE\AppData\Roaming\CryptoCoderz\ESP-Client" Though you bring up a VERY good point and we will make sure that 0.8.0.6 allows you to select the path and adapts from there. Sadly we couldn't think of everything this time around. Anyone capable of running cryptocoin wallets should have no problem managing manual installation of them.

Initially the client will be set to auto-update which you can turn off by simply accessing the client control system tab and deselecting it as an option. Here is an example:
