Yeah people will use it as a currency only if they are able to spend it directly and till then they will prefer to use it as an investment as everyone is aware that bitcoin has great potential to give higher profits.

Are you sure you will only hold it until the price up to $1000 again without doing nothing with your btc?I think It is not profitable, because we do not know whether the price will up to $1000 again or not. How if the price never reach $1000?

i think you can make still a difference. and this also applies for mines. if you are in because you want to make (fiat) money, then you are investing. trading or mining with the purpose to make money is investing, even if you have to use bitcoin as a currency.
you vote currency if you use bitcoin to buy and sell stuff in bitcoin or if you earn bitcoin to buy stuff for bitcoin.
