Very good summation of the shenanigans behind BitCH coin.
To test out Canaan's Avalons I had already gotten 3x A721's then 3x of the 741's pre-BCH-only. Very happy with them so when Bitmain went to saying ya gotta pay with *their* altcoin than just sealed the deal of me saying good-bye to using them.

It really is a shame Bitmain pulled this stunt. Starting with s1's back in April 2014, to-date I have bought 105 Ants from them of all flavors aside from the s5+ and their U series, faithfully upgrading the entire farm and expanding it with each new release. Now, as long as they insist on accepting only BCH screw that.

Their competitors are more than happy to take either BTC or other means of payment plus they have decent gear so win-win for us and Bitmain's competitors I guess...

Farm currently @ >250THs and 45THs of that is Avalons which include several more purchased after Bitmain gave us the  Ja, over 205THs of that is s9's and T9's however I like the Avalon's so much that I will get a several more to replace some s9's which will be taken off-line to hold as spares (at my power limits).

Already recently had my 3rd s9 hash board die within the last 2 months - all from different pre-autotune miners - so took the 2 good boards from latest failure and put in the other 2 miners. They are pleased as punch being back to full 13-14THs but I also now have an empty s9 chassis....

Then again - so happens 2x more A741's arrived last Friday sooo overall farm is faster than ever

I must admit I didn't see it at first. I personally didn't care about BCH or see it as a threat at first. I figured, meh... If that's how they wanna waste their time, then whatever. Another alt crap coin, oh well.
So when they put their miners up for sale with a BCH only payment option. I thought...hmmm... Hey something do with all that useless BCH I have from the fork. It's like christmas, getting a bunch of free miners. Damn, I must be the luckiest guy on the earth. I wonder why they fixed the exchange rate at $500 per BCH when it's only trading around $300. Sweet, I must have caught it at just the right time. I am the luckiest guy on earth. They can have their useless alt crap coin, I'll take some free miners please.

I just wish that Avalon could have gotten the new miner out sooner.

Send a message to support with your BCH transaction information which shows you sent and they received the BCH to the designated account.

Same happened with me and support responded within a day, gave me a discount and updated my transaction to paid.

For 220v is it just best to go with the bitmain PSU?

What is a good ambient temp to aim for? Is there efficiency gains below a certain point?

The BitMain PSU's are fine but are happier at higher voltages (220-240v is good). If you have a few of them you'll experience a higher MTBF rate than with something like an EVGA 1600, and as far as warranty service is concerned they are hardly worth the time and expense to send back to be fixed, so while the price is cheap, you should price in keeping a spare or two around. Based on the APW3's we've used my feeling is that they are designed for a service life of probably around 12 months.

Miners seem to like to mine at a sweet spot ambient temperature of around 65-75F. We have the fewest problems in this range. Below that static electricity can be a real issue. An S9 will mine happily up to around 90F, but to prolong service life I recommend 70F. During hot weather periods we start to have issue with machines once ambient gets to around 95F and above. Disconnects, wonky controller issues, lost hash boards, etc. It used to be at lower temps you could mess around with overclocking a bit, but with the autotune miners lower temperatures don't really influence efficiency gains beyond that there should be less down time across the board. We don't notice any difference in frequency set between 70 and 90 degrees F. The yield for each miner will vary anyway, sometimes widely. We have 13.5 autotune S9's from the same batch right next to each other on the rack were one will average 12.9 and another will average 13.8 and another 14.2 at the same ambient temperature and humidity conditions. The best way to increase efficiency (by a percent or two) is with Titanium rated PSU's running at 208-240v.

Hey thanks for the detailed response I really appreciate it. Sounds like a house with close to 240 volts is best for the bitmain PSUs so maybe it's best to have that influence my decision. Also I've heard that the other units have voltage protection etc.

Maybe becoming an expert on fixing the power supplies is a good idea if you want to order them instead of the aftermarket units.

I have been using the Bitmain PSUs for over 3 years with only 1 failure for hundreds of miners.

If they had 14TH/s S9's, why is the Jan 11-20,2018 batch 13.5TH/s?  Should I just wait for the next batch?  It doesn't seem like this one is selling out as quickly as others have described previous batches of the S9.  Somewhere in the 249 pages of this thread, I read that one batch sold out in hours.

The sales rate depends largely on their (expected) stock quantity and the demand. Neither factors are publicly available. At the rate they are pumping out miners between now and January, one would expect the difficulty to escalate greatly. This may also be influencing sales.

This next bit is speculation:
History shows that as Bitmain starts producing miners that have better and better hashrates (also with lower failures) and then suddenly starts selling-off large quantities of batches which seem to be a regression towards earlier models' hashrates, they are dumping their stock to prepare for an improved model.
