So Jewels will replace the current in-game currency used in Apex?

What are the most important use cases for the currency in-game?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

It's not pay to win in the slightest. The ability to spend money on a game to purchase visual changes that don't affect the power balance completely fits the free to play model. For example, League of Legends which sells skins (cosmetics; exactly the same concept) is not pay to win.

Any game that has items that can be obtained through cash purchase is p2p. pay 2 win does not have to be something that gives you an advantage. pay 2 win is any item that is obtainable by purchasing with real money only.

Not everyone plays games to kill people/build stuff/run around. Some people play games for what they can customize on there character etc. So adding cash only visual items makes it pay 2 win for someone who plays for the cool customization's.

Any game that allows an item to be purchased for real world money is pay 2 win.

**edit**

Leaving my typo up there but I did not mean p2p meant p2w.

Any game that allows an item to be purchased for real world money is pay 2 win.

While everyone has their own definition of what p2w means, in most MMOs it's defined as being able to pay for in game power. There's many types of pay 2 win ranging anywhere between mild bonus rates such as a small exp boost or convenience features to save you time (generally considered acceptable and something we definitely do) all the way to the other end of the spectrum where free players cannot in any way compete with those who pay for items.

A good example of a pay2win style game is a lot of mobile games where in order to be able to compete you MUST spend money. The same thing that might take a paying player a couple weeks to do would take a free player months or even years.

In our game we sell customization options (how your weapons and character look) for cash but those customizations can be re-sold in game. By playing the game and earning in-game currency, you can buy those cosmetics from others who donated. This creates an in game peer 2 peer market for these goods which encourages people to spend money but does not punish them for being a free player.

So Jewels will replace the current in-game currency used in Apex?

What are the most important use cases for the currency in-game?

The Jewels will become the new reward for spending real life money on the game and will not replace the current in game currencies earned simply by playing the game. Right now when someone spends money they get fixed rewards based on what they spend (a number of customization points, some in-game currency and some vip tokens). We will be re-working that system to instead be a jewel shop where users can spend their jewels on whatever particular customization or item they want. This will be more user friendly (right now we have players who end up with garments they may not want which they must then find a buyer for) and allow us to expand and customize what items are being sold very easily. It's worth keeping in mind that the jewels will be able to be traded between players in game so that if someone does wish to buy items or sell items, they can do so and it is then peer2peer and not us generating and selling gear (which would be viewed as very unfair by our players)

The second major use case will be provably fair gambling. The funds from investors will be used not only to design the secure jewels transaction system used for the in-game shop but also to develop a series of provably fair gambling games. These games will be playable using jewels OR in-game currency (that way free players are not excluded). Those same provably fair gambling games will be made available seperate from our game in the form of web and mobile app integration. This means crypto currency enthusiasts can gamble their jewels without having to have any interest in our particular game while also allowing our players to keep playing even when away from their computer.

These mini games and the currency itself can be expanded beyond the scope of our server network and even into other games. I would be very interested to talk to creators of other private servers and custom games to talk about integrating our mini games and currency system into their projects as well.

For those who are curious, here's an example of our current in-game shop which uses a 'soul points' which players donate for. These are different styles that can be applied to your weapon in game but offer no stat benefits. Currently there are 92 different paid customization options for weapons and we add more on an ongoing basis. This is the type of system that would be replaced with an 'all in one' jewels shop where the jewels could be used to purchase character customization or other items.

While you're entitled to your own opinion, let me clarify some standard terms used in the gaming communities.

p2p: Refers to peer to peer interactions
Pay to win: Refers to an element in the game that allows you to buy gear or equipment which allows your items/character better than others making gameplay largely unbalanced for people who have skill, but do not pay.

By these definitions a game such as League of Legends (and Apex) is not considered pay to win. However as previously stated, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however I'd urge you to try the game yourself without spending a dime and you'll quickly realize just from playing the game, or conversing with players skill is a large factor in how good you are at the game not how much money you've dumped into it.

That is different to meet the guy behind the project and put a face to the name so early on. Thanks for the update and grabbing my attention I will be following this. Any idea when the ICO goes live and any idea how much the stake in jewels will be?

We can't give you any specifics at this time, closer when we are ready to start the ICO we will release those details. This is indeed a serious project so we hope users of these forums don't hold pregidous that we are posting on a new account. If you have some time, check out the game Cheesy

Very interesting project, I'm a excited to participate  in ICO, I can see that the idea off this project is solid, game already running and doesn't matter if the account is new or old, depends on the person behind the account.  If they want to scam you they will even if their account is legendary (account can be easily bought in this forum).  Patiently waiting here for the ICO detail.

Thanks for all the kind words! Happy to see so many people finding interest in this project. Getting really excited to dive in and show some cool gambling mini games and extra content but right now we're focusing on the scalability and security of the project before anything else. Can't take any risks when people are involving money and want to make sure this whole project goes as smoothly as possible.

In regards to the ICO and further details, that will be something we cant provide solid details on quite yet. The JewelsProject account should have more solid details on investment timeline shortly as we have a meeting later tonight.

I put together a super basic getting started playlist. These videos are available as mini tutorials in game but thought it might be useful to have them all in one place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9OlmuxtFrY&list=PLAUFGbh94SIGXABbdQZZuqAxme5m3QVBZ

Extra tips as these videos sort of assume people know how conquer works.

Jumping

Hold down ctrl when clicking to make your character jump. It's much faster and will keep you out of danger.

PVP Events/Fastblade

It's mentioned in the playlist above but we have a ton of different events open to all players. The way fastblade works is that it hits in a straight line between your character and where you click on the ground. To hit accurately you need to aim for the feet of your target and be within a few paces of their character.  This can be quite difficult to do when they are jumping around and requires some practice.

Items

DragonBalls are used to upgrade the quality of items and can be traded in market for CPs (used to buy things from other players or from the shopping mall in game)
Meteors are used to upgrade the level of items and also in some quests. Players will often buy them from you.
+1 items are used to upgrade the composition of items. EG 3 +1 items makes a +2 item, 3 +2 items makes a +3 item all the way up to +9 (which requires thousands of +1s to create). This keeps them in high demand by players.
Blessed items (-3/-5) reduce total damage taken. -5 items sell for quite high prices to other players.

Those are the main items people are focused on hunting. The reason that most people start with an archer is that they are very efficient at killing a lot of monsters very quickly to try to find items which can be used to upgrade their gear or sold to other players.

Maps

The starting town (TwinCity) is actually very dangerous. As a new player you have nothing to lose if someone finds and kills you but it's still rare to see players sticking around town for very long for fear of dying. Most players will be off leveling, hunting, mining or will be in the market map.

Each city has a conductress which will allow you to enter the market as well as to speed travel across the game. If you're a new player looking to find some people to chat with, market is definitely where you want to go.

Hopefully this super brief mini guide helps anyone who is trying to take a peek at the server.

I have to agree this is a very cool project and the fact that the game is already out and fairly popular has got my attention, then to see how passionate you seem to be is another plus, and of course actually seeing the person behind the project gives it that extra feel good.

All in all I am very much looking forward to this one and I will be watching.

One of our users prior to our Bitcointalk launch who is a user of Bitcointalk reached out to us asking us if we wanted some graphics created for our thread. We were interested in seeing what he could produce so we asked him to show us some. The designs he showed us were not appealing so we never payed and now it is apparent that he subcontracted this work out to another user.

We did not expect him to subcontract as we thought he would be producing them himself, so we apologize for any troubles he may have caused.

Soon we will be starting a campaign soon on our server for any user who posts a selfie of themselves with a piece of paper showing their support for Apex will receive an in-game visual item. These pictures will be combined to form a collage of users, more details on this will be available later. We encourage users of Bitcointalk to participate in this event.

Our users are already showing their support Wink

We are currently trying to prioritize translations in the following languages, so please contact us if you are able to do so: Arabic, Philipino, Turkish, Chinese and Russian. Specifics about bounty details on translations shortly in the next few days.

While you wait for us to release some more news be sure to check out the game in the mean time it's free to download and free to play.

Im not invested yet because the ico didn't start but when it does you can count me in. i started downloading the game and i hope to find time to play it over the weekend. I will report back with my findings next week.

Been trying the game out and feeling like a newbie >_>. Not really a fan of the leveling, but I've been enjoying the PvP events, it's cool that you can partake in them even if your a newbie and it helps you level Tongue
