I would like to hear a viable solution to climate change, that would not throw developed countries like the US back into a 3rd world country. All climate change initiatives could barely skim the surface towards solving the supposed  "impending catastrophe"

If the western nations stop importing palm oil and mahogany, then the deforestation will be reduced by a great amount.

So what, decades? The forest is cut down for centuries and it is still there. The main thing required to restore the number of chopped trees. You have a bad arithmetic! If instead of 1 tree planting 3 no matter how much it grows.

But (if) your ideology causes you to need to enforce your will on others who desire to opt-out and govern themselves. Thus you are a leftist.

I may care about the environment, and I may agree with local communities regulating against wanton environmental destruction.

While this problem is not resolved at the government level, the situation has not changed. but everyone should get the government to adopt similar laws.

Most of the deforested land is immediately converted in to ranches and palm-oil plantations. So there is no scope for reforestation. Even if you plant new trees, it will in no way compensate for the loss. A 2-year old tree can't absorb as much Carbon di Oxide as a 500-year old tree.

Stop this BS. Everyone knows what is causing the global warming. Stop burning coal and cutting down the tropical forests, and you will have the global average temperature down to the previous levels.
