Tues Sept. 8th edit:  qTrade.io has now confirmed the 10th as the swap date. Previous dates mentioned below were tentative. This looks definite.

The swap on the AltMarket was done over the weekend as planned, alongside with the very nice AM upgrade. qTrade.io looks like they'll be swapping on the 5th, so you have that option still, and if you miss that window you'll still be able to do it yourself using a forthcoming dapp.

Edit: PPMcGhee in the slack, who has been talking with qTrade about the swap, just posted that it'll be a few more days before they do it so you have a little more time. 15% bonus coins for anyone swapping from the old to the new chain will be honored by them as well.

August 29th, 2020 reminder:

Today is the last day to deposit your Tao v1 coins to

https://exchange.alt.market

to have them swapped for Tao v2 coins.

https://qTrade.io

Will also be doing a swap but I'm updating this post to clarify because I hear they haven't confirmed the date yet. I'll update the thread when I know a definite date.

Either exchange will give you an extra 15% coins during the swap. Yes, even if you buy them today.

If you miss the window you'll have a second option to swap them via DApp and you'll still get the bonus 15% so don't worry if you miss the window, but depositing and letting one of these two official exchanges take care of it for you is recommended.   Smiley

Is the swap already done? I have some Tao v1 coins.

Best Regards

Just thought you might want to know that the trading bots are back on altmarket, while actual humans are still in short supply.

Oh, and the post-swap price bump on qTrade is also gone.

Its a shame that TAO and Binance could not come to agreement to create alliance in Japan.

A Binance presence in Japan would have been a very big impact for the Global exchange.

bitFlyer is my favorite exchange to use in Japan right now.

Quick update for October 16. Looks like I forgot to post that the qTrade swap did happen as planned and went smoothly. qTrade is also now running a Tao masternode.
The voting app which allows masternode owners to load their funds on the node to earn, and for other Tao holders to pledge their coins as delegates to/vote for a masternode is forthcoming. I think the last piece beyond that is the AltMarket tradebot API integration.

Per Bryce, "We are at the point where there is almost nothing further necessary to fulfill our mission except to advertise for liquidity. That’s it."

We also saw a brief mention of Tao in a Bloomberg Crypto article on DeFi:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-10-13/-defi-replaces-blockchain-as-the-must-have-crypto-moniker

Oct 17th edit:
Techspot also did an article on DeFi and mentioned Tao

Wednesday October 28, 2020 update:

Bryce has published the repo for Ming, an Infura-like set of APIs which provide a view into data on the Tao blockchain including tokens and contracts:

https://github.com/Tao-Network/ming

It's still in development, but the practical upshot is it brings us something Bryce has talked about for years, which is SQL database compatibility for not just Tao, but any Ethereum style blockchain. So Tao and other compatible networks become "enterprise ready," which makes any blockchain which uses Ming much more appealing for corporate adoption.

And unlike Infura, which can be expensive, "you can run Ming on spare equipment."

IPFS support will be added soon,
Quote
"This allows folks to issue tokens and then add the logo to IPFS and then indicate the IPFS location of the image in the extra data of the smart contract, making the logo available to the entire ecosystem

this is also how things like cryptokitties works

which… by the way… we’re working on our own version"

The voting/governance app needed to run and make money from a masternode, or to vote for one, hasn't been released yet because Ming was being built and it will form the basis of the voting app. The bridge app for those people who didn't participate in the swap done on AltMarket and qTrade will also be built using Ming and was described:
Quote
"How the migration website will work is you will login w/ your tao-enabled metamask and then be presented with a unique deposit address.  you send your coins to the deposit address and you’ll get tao deposited into your MetaMask

imma rearrange the order of things and get the migration site online before the governance dapp so everyone has the opportunity to start staking and run masternodes at the same time"

Reminder that if you have the OG Bitcoin-derived version of Tao there is a coin swap to the Ethereum-derived DPOS network happening on Sunday August 30.

Deposit your coins to Exchange.Alt.Market or to qTrade.io before the 30th to have them swapped for you. There will be an alternative option later if you miss the window.

The relaunch comes with a complete overhaul of the AltMarket. The web guys apparently made the new AM live ahead of schedule today and I took a couple of screenshots:

OK! The wait is finally over  Smiley

The AltMarket v2 and the TAO relaunch & coin swap is happening on Sunday, August 30

https://twitter.com/_altmarket/status/1297972682927902720

This will bring a complete UI & backend overhaul for AltMarket, including the new API which will enable DEX integration and a market maker tradebot among other features.

At the same time, any TAO deposited beforehand will be swapped for you to the new EVM-based Tao network forked (via Tomochain) from Ethereum, bringing all of the Ethereum features with cheaper TX fees, 3x faster confirmation times, and profitable DPOS masternodes.

The coin swap will also be done for you if you have your coins on qTrade.io, and if you miss the exchange swap window you'll still have the ability to use a smart contract to swap later.

Whichever place you swap, you'll also get 15% more coins for free. Good things come to those who wait. Cool

i have some tao v1 coins am i still able to exchange my coins, or is all of my money lost, i just didn't follow the coin for quite some time

Your money is not lost. The on-exchange swaps were done a while ago, but there is a bridge app coming. Ming, the set of APIs which I mentioned in my last post upthread, will be used for the voting/governance app as well as the bridge app which will let you swap your coins yourself.

I don't have an exact ETA but my impression is it will be ready soon, probably a little later this month from what it sounds like. I'll update the thread and the @TaoBlockchain twitter account will have the info, too.

What you'll be able to do is go to a webpage and use the MetaMask browser extension, link a new Tao2 wallet in MM to the site, then send your old Tao to the swap address the site will generate and you'll get the new coins deposited automatically to your MM wallet.

I'll be updating the thread with a link when I have it.

Tao (new chain) is traded on two exchanges currently:

https://exchange.alt.market/trade/view/tao_btc
and
https://qtrade.io/market/TAO_BTC

Hope that helps.

The Exodus web app is now available. Exodus allows someone to automatically swap their old TAO to the new TAO chain and get the 15% bonus coins.

https://tao.network/tao-1-0-migration-tool-now-live/

The source repo for Exodus is here: https://github.com/taoblockchain/exodus

And the app itself is here: https://exodus.tao.network/

Some of the other Tao community members and I tested Exodus with Bryce recently and we were able to swap coins successfully. However, to be on the safe side it is still recommended to test swapping a few coins first before sending your entire balance.

You will need to install MetaMask in your browser and create a wallet to receive the coins: https://metamask.io

And you will need to configure MetaMask with the Tao RPC settings, which are:

Network name: Tao Network
RPC URL: https://rpc.tao.network
Chain ID: 558
Currency symbol: TAO
Explorer: https://scan.tao.network

The masternode voting app is up next. This will initially be run from a command line, but will eventually have a web interface as well.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Gotta say I'm impressed with your """""""audit and maintenance""""""" procedures. They have to be hella thorough to stretch for over two weeks! I guess 16 is "a few" if you're used to the Weiner approach to promises and timetables though.

I'm sure it's fine though, and that there's no connection at all to the price hitting ATL on qtrade.

Gotta say I'm impressed with your constant focus on this project. Milk rage quit and gifted some coins in the process. There's no correlation between the two outside of your persistent fever dreams.

Yes, it will be possible to swap on your own for the foreseeable future. I'll quote the info I posted upthread below, but first let me paste in a link to a recent backup copy of the Tao blockchain. You can unzip this file and put the contents into your Tao folder in Application Data (Mac) or AppData\Roaming (Windows), making sure to keep your wallet.dat file, and it will speed the sync up a LOT.

http://backchains.s3.amazonaws.com/Tao.zip

Hope that helps. Here is the swap info:

What are the diamond club benefits these days? Ever get those guitar picks or t-shirt?  I'm considering inviting myself into the club at 5 satoshi. that will be down only about 99.62% from where I exited.... A reasonable short!  Cheesy

I heard that leadership in this project is now highly democratized and super open to hearing new ideas and outside perspectives  Grin  Gonna see about getting back on the Slack channel today; you guys are gonna love having me back in the inner circle!  Cool

Jan 9, 20201 update:
Shifu, the governance/masternode voting app is coming along and will be available later this month. In the mean time, a couple of the community members have activated their master nodes via Remix instead of waiting for Shifu and we're now earning rewards.

I'm in the middle of helping one guy set his first one up, and looks like I'll be helping a couple of others in a day or two. There are always dead weights in any alt community that only seem to complain and drag everybody down. It's a relief when they're gone and forgotten. I enjoy helping out the people who want to chip in though.

Anyway, looking forward to altseason now that all the pieces are just about in place. Timing's good once we clear the "depression" stage of the altcoin market cycle. So much salt right now.  Wink

Dead weight like exchange.alt.market? 'Cause that seems to have noped out permanently. Guess the 'audit' didn't work out too well.

Oh, and I just did a small check back, because it's always so funny to see just how slow this project moves compared to what's claimed: Did you know that the voting dApp ("Shifu") was originally considered to be part of the "minimum viability" step, which was promised for April of last year? It's true! I would not be so quick to trust it coming out "later this month", despite what anyone says. Especially someone who's able to look at the absolute sea of broken promises and years of basically no activity and decry any sceptics as "dead weight".

Edit: Also, I saw that Bryce is keeping up his lie about "intentionally" capping the crowdsale at $100k, which, of course, is a blatant lie which anyone with a modicum of archive diving skills easily can find out. I guess he's hoping no one will actually check.

Oh look, another boring post from one of the sockpuppet troll accounts. Funny how they always cluster together like they're coordinated or something. Maybe it's a coincidence. Whoever you are, you sure let Bryce and Tao occupy a lot of your headspace.

No, "dead weight" like people who constantly ask wen moon but don't do anything to actually help it along.

Anyway, the search on this site sucks so I can't find any mention of Shifu before this page. I took a glance back but didn't find much except a bunch of trolling from the account I'm replying to and the rest of you, however few are actually behind all the accounts. I guess I'll take your word on it.

I will give you no argument that Bryce is slow af but you're very silly for trying to claim there's been "basically no activity." I'm not going to belabor the point because this thread is 50% me posting updates and 50% a handful of troll accounts making asses of yourselves. For years.

But it's not like there's literally multiple links to examples of activity in my most recent posts.

So to post something more interesting than replying to time wasters, Bryce has been sharing screen shots of the ongoing development of the Shifu voting app, and there's been active discussion in the Tao2-Technical-Chat channel in Slack.

Anyone interested in current info about what's actually going on should join the channel, here's the signup link if you don't have it. No trolls https://taonetwork.typeform.com/to/hnuAj0

Here's one of the recent screen shots showing preliminary ROI info for the growing number of masternodes we've been setting up. It's a pretty big file so I'll just link to it to save bandwidth:
http://acgimg.s3.amazonaws.com/Tao-shifu-preview-2021-01-13.jpg

It's compiled scraping data using Ming, which is one of those pesky examples of activity that I've been assured don't exist or whatever.

Actually, I'm sure I'm imagining that I've been able to use the new network without issues; that I had my funds migrated over without problems as have many other people; that I've tested the migration web app others who haven't switched over yet can use; that I've installed the software on more than one server for myself and for others and it's run fine; that I've been able to fund a masternode using smart contracts and help others fund masternodes and earn rewards without issue; that I can see the active nodes when I look at the "nonexistent" scan.tao.network; I'm also just hallucinating the github commits on multiple repos as recent as about an hour ago!

And that's just the last few months of what I've apparently imagined.

Well, none of that happened or anything else. Guess I'll go and set up this masternode now for someone that probably is just my imagination!  Cheesy

Slack is back. A couple of the guys and I saw it disappear and were talking about it via Twitter. I let Bryce know and he recovered it.
AM is wildly overdue but will be back as soon as possible. I'll paste in the relevant info from Bryce via slack from earlier:
Quote
had an admin get haxed
not sure who because slack doesn’t believe in security accounting, but the attacker disabled their account as the final maneuver which removed their admin status so problem solved
it was basically just vandalism and the loss of public channels

since folks are paying attention staking is online
shifu-beta.tao.network
AltMarket is still under rewrite and code audit and I’m more crazy about it than anyone in this chat which is why I don’t talk about it
lol
also check out our new stats page stats.tao.network
and i’m in the middle of writing a new explorer.

folks making money in tao again so the software mill is a-crankin
we all web3 and defi af
validator ROI is 15.96%  which is 2x DeFi returns
4x the old tao

I'd been meaning to update the thread for the last week. The voting/validator app was supposed to come online in January, but oh noes it was a few hours late coming online February first. As mentioned above, you can find it at shifu-beta.tao.network
and if you have Tao in your MetaMask wallet you can now activate a validator/masternode if you have a node set up already (100K Tao required) or you can vote one there.
The Shifu site gives you info on the validators including ROI for both the operator and for voters. Looks and works great. Very easy to vote or fund your own masternode once you have MetaMask set up.

Meanwhile, Bryce has also given a thorough overhaul of the stats site here stats.tao.network which also looks good but it's a work in progress so the map doesn't show the location of nodes yet. I think he's also planning to update it so that you can click a validator on the stats site and go to its voting page over on Shifu. Here's the repo if you want a look or to set up your own:
https://github.com/Tao-Network/tao-stats

And another update is we've been dissatisfied with the current very basic explorer, so Bryce is working on a new open source explorer inspired by Etherscan.io and that's in progress.

He's also working on wrapping Tao so it can be listed on Uniswap, but also to create a bridge so people can move tokens and projects freely out of Etherem and onto Tao, Expanse, Ubiq, or other Ethereum-based networks so people can escape the crazy ETH gas fees.

It's been a long road, but a lot of ground has been covered now. Looking forward to what's next.
