I don't want to believe this but it looks real. ETH and BTC has the same amount of trading volume for the last 24 hours on btc-e. (20M $/24h)

Do people really think that eth is the next bitcoin? (sounds like a shit idea tbh) Or is there a huge scam going on?
It was the past when it was thought that Ethereum is the competitor of bitcoin and will go to become a next bitcoin as after ts hack people have lost trust on it fully and now mostly traders buy and sell ethereum coin as they think anytime any issue can happen with this technology.
but i do not think that there is any competitor to bitcoin, bitcoin is the number one currency of the world and  will also remain the number currency of the world, because peole are accepting bitcoin as currency of

you are right and i will add that even in that time in the past ethereum was unable to compete bitcoin because bitcoin was mush established than ethereum and ethereum was just in the starting points of its progress. They both were in their way and the speed of bitcoin was faster so even in that time bitcoin had no competition.

Today I do not see a single cryptocurrency that could compete with bitcoin. Now one leader is bitcoin. Despite the fact that he also has his own problems and shortcomings

Today maybe yes, but if they make hard fork and Bitcoin Unlimited win with BTC it can be the end of (old) Bitcoin (the king is dead, long live the king) It will be also very big chance for other cryptocurrencies - especially for ETH and DASH to jump up..

Yes altcoins are competition for bitcoin, it can be considered as place for make bitcoin
the people buy bitcoin because of looking for profit in fiat currency,
and the other people buy altcoins for looking for profit in bitcoin
it is mean except fiat currency altcoins are competition for bitcoin.

I wonder if the Op words now. Hold true as we all know Bitcoin unlimited is gaining lot of support and it's a matter of time if not years that they will take over Bitcoins, it will be a sad end but that's what it looks even monore is gaining now on Bitcoins, of course their rates are different, but this particular altcoin is gaining a lot. I only wonder won't the alt coins make a big sale as they are far affordable then a Bitcoin is and I feel this will be a major turning point going forward, if the fork happens and it splits then what. It's about time we understand that bitcoin has competition.

Imo ETH is a candidate to compete with bitcoin, if I'm not mistaken $2B was transferred from bitcoin into ETH in past 2 days, well that is not good if we want ETH to even surpass bitcoin we need fresh money from outside not the already invested money on btc to be put in ETH we need fiat flow into crypto.
I’m not sure many people in the forum want ETH, or any altcoin for that matter, to surpass bitcoin any time soon, that money that you saw being transfered are just people speculating with the price nothing more, I don’t think you witnessed  a massive backing from believers in the technology.

Bitcoin is officially garbage, spent 3 hours sending a transaction last night. I'm over it.

Let me guess, you didn't add a fee?

He either didn't add a fee or he chose to add really small amount of fee. People come in this forum ranting about how they waited for hours to get their transaction confirmed and they are totally done with bitcoins but you still see them active in this forum. If you're one with bitcoins, then get out of here.

If you're transaction isn't fast enough for you then how about adding more fees, sweetie?

Depends on from which factor you're comparing bitcoin against those altcoins. Competitions is not just about the winner have the biggest market cap but also can be compared from its feature.
If you're just seeing from your perspective and rely on the market cap, for sure bitcoin will win because it's the first ever cryptocurrency to be popular and widely known among many people whereas the rest are still new.

I don't think bitcoin will be 100k+ in next 10 years also but I'm sure after 15 years there will be an altcoin which will easily beat bitcoin's market cap. About the price i don't think there is any the only contender is monero and maybe eth. Dash also has potential but I'm afraid it may end up like ltc.

People that pay for things with a very large Bitcoin Transaction Fee really don't have a 100 % fast confirmation rate. So the OP might not have paid for whatever it is that he or she wanted with a small Transaction Fee.
The people mining Bitcoins are using Bitcoin Mining machines that are working hard when most of the Transactions within Bitcoins Blockchain get stuck at certain times -people could spend Bitcoins without it confirming though.

So, the Transaction Fee isn't all there is for fast confirmations.

Yes alt coins are really a big help to all of us and as well as the whole bitcoin economy. The only competition that I can see with crypto's is the market cap.

But bitcoin will always be the leading one as it is the original source of crypto currency idea and alt coins are being sold with bitcoin.

So it's clear, that bitcoin has no competition or competitor.

Bitcoin will always enjoy the leading space and though there will always be newcomers challenging the leadership of Bitcoin I don't think they will succeed. They can survive alongside Bitcoin and can even be complimentary in nature but they can not defeat Bitcoin not unless someone can invent something that is of higher value and technology than what Bitcoin is providing. However, I can not see the future so this is just another opinion of mine.
Just to make things clear, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not in competition, the communities mining and saving both bitcoin and altcoins are the ones competing with each other, and the reason why the bitcoin is in the lead it is due to the fact that its user base is much larger than the other ones, and it will always be that way as long as people keep using it and that what makes bitcoin “has no competition”.

As I see it, currently there are two short-term possibilities:

1. Continued impasse between BU and Core, with fees staying high as nothing is done. (Alternately, fees come down because migration to the alts and slow death of bitcoin reduces demand for TX on the BTC blockchain).

2. BU gathers the strength to successfully fork. Civil war between the two chains ensues, killing off one but leaving the other greatly weakened both in price and community support, as many will flee to the safety of alts.

I don't see a 3rd option like SW adoption (which I'd prefer) in the near term. Does anyone see anything different? I'm almost entirely out of BTC now and into a basket of the major alts. As a result my crypto portfolio shot up overnight, again, even while BTC collapsed another 10%. I'm not buying back into BTC until there is light at the end of the tunnel. BTC is in real trouble, and I'm guessing the only reason it hasn't fallen further is because many people are still in denial or are institutional investors who are only hearing that some geeky nerds are squabbling about protocols. Once they grasp the situation things are going to get hairy.

There won't be a "next bitcoin".  Once the king is gone, nobody is king any more.  The king is the king because he was first.  Once the king is gone, there is no "first" any more.  All crypto finally on equal footings.

i think the coin already have existed long time ago. its yet not under the spot light of every one but some have already bag them. Bitcoin isn't as innovative as it is, its only because its being adapped by merchants and users which makes its demand and price.

The throne is never empty

Once Bitcoin is gone (if ever), some other cryptocurrency will necessarily take the lead. It is not even the question of if, since the Bitcoin successors are already there and looking enviously at the throne it occupies now. I'd rather say it would be a matter of which currency exactly is likely going to take the Bitcoin place after it is officially declared dead (kinda "the king is dead, long live the king!"). There would certainly be a lot of strife. Not that there is none yet but folks will face and make a difficult choice, anyway

Bitcoin is only digital currency right now and I don't see any competition to it at a moment but things may change in future when it may get replaced some new and innovative currency and till it happens enjoy the ride with bitcoins as it will never disappear.
It may not be replaced by any other currency because you can see that bitcoin is most advanced and most favorable currency for people of the world. People want to take and keep bitcoin and not other altcoins for their storing wealth. people use other altcoins only for trading purpose.
