So this would save a few hours and a few posts then..

I joined the forum to take part in one of the group buys of the Avalon ASIC chips. I also plan to assist in the design of an 'open source' PCB assembly for said chips, and possibly arrange or assist with a group buy & assembly of said PCB so the community can make use of said chips.  It provides an important hedge against consolidation in mining and offers better defense against 51+% attacks.

I've been a casual GPU miner (BTC/LTC) for a while now and understand the principles and theory of the system quite well if i do say so myself.

Hi,

I have read these forums frequently when searching Google, so I finally decided to join. I know quite well of BTCs, however, I would like to ask other members about their opinions about online BTC miners, rigs, setups, etc. I'm an active member on many forums and like to help out the community when I can. I would also like to participate in the Marketplace and purchase some items (from trustworthy members) that can help me in my BTC mining.

Thanks.

Hi,

I mainly came to this website to comment about the functionality of the MtGox payment module for Prestashop, hoping that it is possible (like the Magento plugin) to add a feature where BTC can be displayed along side the current currency (GBP) in the front end.

Would it be possible to be white listed so I can post my suggestion in the appropriate thread?

I hope this is enough to authenticate me as past the newbie stage:
Bitcoin is a distributed timestamp server for contracts. It uses a programming language similar to Forth to describe the conditions under which bitcoin in a transaction can be spent (used by another transaction).

Now please get me out of here so I can reply to threads in the technical forum Smiley

I'd like to propose the idea of a group buy in the ZTEX FPGA hardware thread.

As for a proving technical competency...

The bitcoin network adapts to a change in total network hashrate by adjusting the difficulty of the proof-of-work required to generate a block. This occurs after every 2016 blocks. The difficulty is adjusted such that a block will be generated on average once every 10 minutes.

As a result of the release of custom hardware (ASIC's) and the recent spike in interest from the general public, the total network hashrate has increased significantly and has resulted in a corresponding increase in difficulty. This will eventually cause GPU's to become unappealing to those who pay for their electricity, as individuals will end up paying more than the value of the bitcoins they recieve by mining. FPGA's provide significantly more hashes per joule than GPU's, and will therefore be appealing to miners for a longer time than GPUs.

Been lurking for ages.

Was early adapter on bitcoin back when it all started.

Mined a few hundred coins and sold them all at $16 ;-(

Anyway would like to have early access since I've set up a p2pool for CHNCoin and would like to engage in the discussion of alt coins.

I already mined a lot of PPcoin, Litecoin etc.

I'm 36 and from EU

Hello, I`m top rated power seller on ebay - userid micaXR - I`m going to buy bulk and sell ASIC chips bought from AVALON in smaller amounts of 10-50-100 pieces in a lot. I need to post and discuss it in DIY AVALON and custom hardware threads. Thank you.

I'd like to be whitelisted, there's a thread about address revocation I'd like to comment on. I'm wondering about the idea of revocation which only stopped you from spending to an address. You could still spend out of the address. That way if you suspected or found out you were compromised, you could try revoking your address and transferring the money out to a new wallet before you got robbed. It wouldn't do anything to recover money after the fact, of course. But say, in the future, the address you used for payment from your employer were robbed. You'd still be out the money, but you could at least revoke the address to be absolutely sure that payments to it will be stopped in the future. *Edit: Also, if you accidentally revoke your address you won't lose your money as you can still move it to a new wallet. And, based on the number of addresses available, I assume that clients which generate and revoke addresses non-stop won't be an issue. **Edit again: Thinking some more, revocation spam would still be a problem if allowed... revocations should probably cost a fee. I think it could work if miners determined what revocations they were willing to process based on the fee, like they do with transactions.

I'm a bitcoin newb, so I'm not sure if that demonstrated knowledge. Smiley The only other thing I would say is that I think of a blockchain as a way to prove that you've invested a resource, namely computing time, and the only way to prove that you've spent the time is to actually spend the time. Regardless of future cost of computing power, there will still always be a finite supply of computing time that you can spend, even if it's some absurdly large amount of time due to parallel processing. As long as no one entity acquires the resources to outcompute the rest of the world combined, the blockchain should be safe. I think this would require them to either acquire computing resources at vastly reduced prices compared to the rest of the world, somehow, or to pull off the mother of all double spends to offset the costs of doing something like this.

Random thoughts, hopefully nothing too horribly wrong. Smiley

I reached the 4 hours and 5 posts.

I know quite alot about bitcoins, not sure where to start. Easy saying its an digital currency. Almost unhackable (Unless you have 51% or more of the Hash/s) and no one owns it

EDIT: Oh, just became Jr. Member

I was initially interested in bitcoins in 2011 but was too skeptical at the time to invest.   At this point, I've decided to give it a go, experiment with a small amount of coin and attempt to trade for physical goods.
