Now, the Media Center of Ibn Taymiyyah (ITMC), an online unit of jihadist propaganda based in the Gaza Strip, is campaigning to raise funds in social media, which is the first confirmed case of Bitcombe's use of a terrorist group. And although the campaign has not yet managed to collect a lot of digital currency, this precedent still shows the willingness of terrorists to experiment with new financial technologies to expand their funds.
ITMC is the media unit of the Mujahideen Advisory Council in the outskirts of Jerusalem (MSC), an association of Jihadist Jihadist groups in the Gaza Strip, declared by the US Department of State to be a foreign terrorist organization. Although the goal of the MSC is Israel, the leaders of this group support the "Islamic State" (IG), and in February 2016, the deputy head of the MSC was appointed responsible for the replenishment of financial resources and the transfer of foreign militants to the IG.
ITMC launched the online campaign Jahezona (in Arabic - "equip us") in July 2015. She calls on Muslims around the world to donate funds, and thus fight for Islam, fulfilling their religious duty. As part of the campaign, posts are regularly posted in the form of infographics, reporting on the desired ammunition, weapons and their cost. And first, for secure feedback in the posts, either an email address or an account in the telegram's encrypted communication messenger was indicated.
However, in June 2016, there was an option for making funds in bitcoins, and in the posts in Twitter, QR codes were given with a link to the bit-address. The campaign aims to raise at least $ 2,500 for each soldier, but so far only 0,929 BTC (approximately $ 540) were transferred to the address indicated by two transactions with a difference of six days (July 1 - 0.893 BTC and July 7 - 0.0359 BTC ). And on August 20 the entire amount was transferred to other addresses of unknown ownership.
And since August ITMC still calls to donate money in bitcoins, despite the fact that information about this campaign to raise funds for terrorists leaked into a number of news resources. The Twitter administration regularly removes the campaign account, but it appears again and again under other user names and is distributed through retweets.
It is likely that the transactions described above were carried out by the organizers themselves of the media campaign in order to verify the bit-address. Blocking analysis of the conducted transactions allows us to confidently state that the person who implemented them is an advanced user of the Bitcoin network and uses certain techniques to preserve anonymity.
