I don't want to spread FUD and sadness, but I was thinking...

Think at the owner of an exchange that has been hacked, therefore has totally lost users' trust. He has (?) million of dollars on cold wallets and he perfectly knows that when will reopen, ppl will run to withdraw EVERYTHING and go trade elsewhere. He will face very hard months, in addition in a bear market that has already killed some exchanges. If you were him, what would you do?  Wink
I still believe that there are people who will do the right thing no matter what the situation is. The idea of running away may have crossed their minds knowing that most users (if not all) will leave the exchange anyway if they reopen. However, we are not sure if they'll go that way, well I hope not. I'll just wait and see

If there was any chance  of Not having a mass exodus from cryptopia then they should have taken action and communicated what they could .. they just clammed up and are hiding behind the police  newly spawned exchanges are lining up to take all their customers and listed coins.

Hacks can and Do happen If this was one or inside job I cant say for 100% but the thing a exchange can control is the Aftermath and they clearly shit the bed on this.

i never thought that am going to scammed by this way i thought cryptopia was better than hitbtc and yobit at the end craptopia mask down
there is only one lesson which could flow from this case: Never trust centralized exchanges!

That is not necessarily the case. Bitfinex was hacked, too but is now performing quite ok.

I am looking for signature campaign Wink pm me

Today I read an article, they write hackers have liquidated $3.2 million in tokens so far.  $2 million of the total amount laundered, was done so via Etherdelta. https://www.chepicap.com/en/news/7310/cryptopia-hackers-have-liquidated-3-2-million-in-tokens-so-far.html
We can only wait on February 15 and hope that the exchange will resume work. I am very disappointed with the exchange management, there are no updates and this causes mistrust.

What should happen on february 15?

Many users is disappointed, example some users do day trading and for this period they loss good profit why because they can not use their coins (not hack coins!). Not very professional.....

the more days pass without news, the more I think the hack has been catastrophic and the percentage of stolen coin very high...
if, for example, hackers had access to btc wallets, bye bye cryptopia.

if it has been an inside job why only steal eth and tokens, why don't steal also bitcoins...  Roll Eyes

i consider my funds lost every day more.

Updateto Cryptopia customers who have contacted New Zealand Police - 11 February 2018:

Policeacknowledge your frustration with the time the investigation appears to be taking and appreciate your patience.     Cryptopia’s customer base is very large withover 2 million global users, according to the company, so police have to manage numerous queries from affected investors.

Ifyou continue to look online for any media updates as that is generally how information is disseminated to the public by New Zealand Police.   This will be an ongoing enquiry for some timeand police are often constrained as to what we can release as we do not want to potentially compromise an active investigation or subsequent prosecution.

Themost recent media release on the 7 February 2019 is below:

The Police investigation into the Cryptopia hack and theft of cryptocurrency is progressing well and is advancing on several fronts.  The focus is on identifying those behind this offending and retrieving the stolen cryptocurrency.

This is a complex investigation involving the theft of cryptocurrency, in an unregulated environment.  The stolencryptocurrency is being actively tracked by the Police and specialists worldwide due to the nature of the cryptocurrency blockchains being publicly available.

Excellent progress is being made in the investigation and we are working with Cryptopia management, current and ex-employees who have been providing valuable assistance in this part of the investigation.  We are working closely with our international partners and cybercrime experts to continue the investigation.

Cryptopia’s managers are on site at their Christchurch address and police are expected to finish at the premises by the end of next week (15/2/19). This investigation is expected to take a considerableamount of time to resolve due to the complexity of the cyber environment.

Weacknowledge that your primary concerns are essentially:

·          What has happened to my investment?   Is it currently safe?
·          When can I access my funds?
·          Will I ever be able to recover my funds/receiveany compensation if my coins have been stolen?

Thesetype of questions need to be addressed by Cryptopia management.   Whilst police continue to work alongside themto establish the facts of the security breach, we cannot give any commentary in respect of your primary concerns as they are company affairs for Cryptopia to address.

Werecommend you continue to check Cryptopia’s website and twitter page for company updates.

Yours Sincerely,

Investigations Team – Operation Crypto

I can see that a limited amount of token has been inappropriately taken from cryptopia. Couple of days and he owners can make he money back.
If they delay customers to access funds and stuff like that, that is going to make cryptopia position worse as trust will sink in less than a blink of an eye.
Give people the possibility to cash out and then solve your issues.

Well i hope there's enough reason for their silence,

with regards to the feb 15 date given by the police i highly doubt they will resume operation on the same day. This could be another reason of waiting when cryptopia starts and create their own investigation drama.

You will not hear anything from Cryptopia while research continues.
I assume that the study will take weeks (possibly months).
The worst is that we can not do anything and the exchange does not give any updates/news.

I knew I'd seen this some place:

yes, i'm one of those. Whats the discord adress you are talking about?

Here is an invite link:
https://discord.gg/279Jcc

However be warned, I don't think there is any actual Crytopia admins who frequent that Discord, and even if they did they certaintly won't be answering any questions since there is still an ongoing investigation.

Its mostly the users of Crytopia who frequent that Discord. However its probably as up to date as it can get since they never update their website or send out any emails of what is the progess with the hack.

As I've been saying here the last thing Cryptopia would want to do is say anything that might jepordise the Police's investigation...

...and as for Discord as adaseb has pointed out:

NBR journo on a reddit channel says police have finished with the offices, so up to the staff on when this will reopen.

I don't see it opening this month, and when it does there will be heavy restrictions on withdrawals.

How is losing money ever a "Win" I dont get it .. it will be less horrible sure but not a win.

Still nothing just a whole bunch of conjecture on discord.
