My credit union doesn't know what a "wire transfer" is

Dude seriously, switch to a real bank where you can do what you want with your money...

Don't you guys have online banking in your countries ? Or a big bank that sends wires, sepa, doesn't have exorbitant fees etc??

I don't know how a credit union couldn't know what wire transfer is.  Its a fundamental way for banks to transfer money both domestically and internationally.  ACH generally has limits in place.  If you have a routing number for your checking account, you should be able to wires funds to and from it.

A lot of local credit unions do not do international wire transfers, therefore the low ladder employee is not aware of what it is

Partly that, and partly at least a couple of local credit unions don't do wire transfers at ALL since ACH got widespread.

Keep in mind that most credit unions don't do "business" accounts - a business is a TON more likely to need to do a wire transfer than an individual.

I also have never had anything but ISSUES when I've been with "real banks" - don't get me started on Wells "bloody FUBAR" Fargo (I told them to shove themselves over ripping me off with overdraft fees due to a deposit THEY put in the wrong account and WOULD NOT FIX almost 20 years ago, LONG before their current scandal but indicating how long that corporate culture has existed) or Bank of "shaft you" America.

Credit unions are a LOT better at getting things right in the first place, and INFINITELY better at fixing them when they DO mess up, IME - and they don't want to gouge you anywhere near as bad with bloody "rip you off fees" like banks do (University of Iowa Credit Union was a rare exception to that last).

I find a Credit Union does a MUCH better job of letting me do what I want with MY money, as they don't do everything in their power to shaft me over to turn MY money into THEIR money.

I'll also point out that back when I DID have a business and had to deal with wire transfers, that they tend to be EXPEN$$$$$IVE.
That "$25 surcharge to take Bitcoin" might not have cost anything extra at all compared to a wire transfer.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

If they are still available in Jan and Canaan sticks with the $25USD fee for taking Bitcoin I'll probably get a couple. The fee is quite comparable, possibly less,  to what it would cost me to use Coinbase > Fiat to my bank > wire xfr so works for me. Wish it had occurred to them sooner to do that....

The more interesting thing is when I undervolted it to 4700mV, it seemed quite stable at 770W for about 10% less hashrate. Lower levels of voltage seemed to kill the hashrate or were unstable. I'll conduct more experiments in a couple of days when I'm not in offpeak electricity to see exactly what that undervolted hashrate is.

im honestly genuinely currious....why are people buying these at the listed price?? Mining isnt a hobby for u me and most other folks anymore which means we need miners that make a return on the invesment you make but these numbers mean they wont make a return in a reasonable timeframe. sure avalon miners r reliable and sturdy...i have owned multiple avalon and avalon clones and can admit they r sturdy and well built. I especially love their older models that had cases made from solid aluminum and can reuse the case for other suff but i dont think its good to support a company that is clearly overcharging for their miner. If they released at the same time bitmain did then i can see the higher numbers but they released their miner after many revissions of the s9 were sold and after all that they havent lowered their price to match the difficulty increase. hell one diff increase was 10% and that jacked the roi times from 400 days to almost 510 days at cheap power prices and anyone that follows prices of miners knows avalon miners dont hold their value any better than other models.

i dont mind doing wire transfers for these miners because i have 2 business bank accounts that allow for international transfers  that arent over the top expensive but i cant justify it at these prices. in 6 months the value will be gone almost and you wont be able to reach roi with the money made from selling the miner including the btc mined with it. It can last until the end of time but if it doesnt return on your investment what is the point? this seems like more of a novelty than an actual investment. people are buying because of quality but in the mining world high quality low quantity doesnt usually = proffit. u gotta find the middle ground between the 2....and i wanna hear why others think this is a good investment. idc either way just currious and wanna understand the thinking behind these purchases a little better.

You are probably better off leaving it stock unless temperature and noise is an issue.

@numnutz2009 I purchased 8 units for the time being and will see how do they perform.

I do not expect ROI anytime soon and based on my current calculations I will ROI in 10 months plus or minus.

For me, I want to secure as much coins possible but with reliable gear that can last.

I hate to admit that Bitmain gear is more effecient but I live in the middle east and I am pretty sure that S9 cannot take it and I am not willing to ship units back to china for $150+ Per unit  and get it back after a month.

So, I hope the premium I paid will pay off.

Depends on your cost of electric - it COULD be more profitable to run it at the more efficient undervolt setting.

I would call these only moderately loud, whereas the S7 was extremely loud. Not quiet enough to have in your bedroom but okay in another part of your house. I've never had an S9 so cannot comment, but presumably the S9 is just as bad as the S7.

ya i have read alot of your posts. have the temps in your shed/barn/solar powered thing (idk what to call it i just know it has multiple lvls and has solar power...not meant to offend) down now that winter is upon us? that should help your s9's run cooler for longer hopefully. I guess unless you have a specialized setup with free/cheap power these wont be worth the money. free power deff lowers the roi times.

depends on the version. the old version is better...the new version cycles the fans up and down up and down over and over again non stop which is worse than running them at a regular speed sound wise and cooling wise from what i have experienced. either way im sure all 3 r pretty loud.

Yeah  asic mining of btc is all about:
1)power price
2) gear reliability

If you have 10 cent power these will not work for you.
Used to be 10 cent power was the cutoff point.
Now I would say 6 cent should be good.

As for noise the s7 and s9 were equal and you could down clock  them lower fans if you had to.

I am running a 1 blade s9 at my friends office fans at 38%  hashs 3600gh at freq 425  and it is bearable noise.

Now back to the topic.  I got a tracking number for my gear it is due on Dec 2  Grin

Wow. What an EPIC failure on Canaan's part.

Well they sent me an email I will get 25 usd off the next order Cheesy

I have received a few pm's about moq for price  breaks. 50-100 size order  may or may not be good enough for a discount.

I helped sell 40+ avalon 6's last year but this is not the same.
I am not interested in shipping 50  to 100 pieces to my home in NJ, USA.

It would be certain I would be subject to fees for importing 50 K worth of gear to my house. Last year I did the two group buys with zero profit for me.
But it was San Francisco to NJ  no import issues. I will use my two and may take them up on a 25 dollar refund for the next miner.

Posted by Kano in his pool thread, but good info that may be useful to others:

Anyone who gets an A7, I would suggest a change on the advanced web configuration page:
More Options: --avalon7-nonce-mask 26
It should speed up the hash rate ramp up.
