What is really weird is the delay was long from order to letting me pay for the order.

I was nice and polite I posted here I posted on twitter I posted on Facebook.
I asked once a day  on thur fri sat sun  mon tue they finally took my btc on weds.  They sent an email  saying they were sorry they took so long and they would give me a gift for being slow.

I said thanks.  So I get my fed ex tracking and it reads 2 packages one is the  741 one is the rasp pi.  I think oh well no gift  too bad.

Ten minutes ago I get a dhl email and I am getting something from avalon it must be the gift.  It is coming on monday 1 day faster then the miner and the rasp pi comes from fedex.

Now I am excited since I have no idea what the gift is.  I am in action.  I will post back on monday to let you know what the gift is.

I see they've increase the price of the controller from $60 to $90.  Any ideas why??? I was going to purchase another with my next batch so I have a backup, but I'm thinking I maybe better off getting one now off eBay.

I'm excited to get my first 741 next week. I haven't bought a miner in a very long time and so far my experience with Canaan has been great. They have responded quickly to me and the ordering process has been smooth. My unit should be here in FL next Wednesday

Well the answer is long  but here goes.

The Av 7 is very stable and does not break very often.
The Bitmain s-9  breaks often.

The Av 7 is available in under 10 days
The S-9 is available in over 45 days

10 cent power for btc is not a good price  so I do not buy based on 10 cents. I have a different deal.

I have Av 721 fully paid
I have S-9      fully paid
I have R4       fully paid.

I have 1080 ti gpus fully paid

I have btc on hold
I have other coins on hold
I have cash on hold.

I juggle and balance    coins, cash, gear both asic and gpu. Trying to keep the correct ratios of each. 

I feel at the moment I need more gear on the asic side. As I feel  BTC will make a big move  in the next month.
Yeah I held BTC  but if it goes to 3500 I am selling off. And the av 741 will help me earn more.

I never owned the 741's  So I will soon have one.

Unless you are setup  like me or better the purchase may be bad  not good.

A. In what business world do you live where capital equipment can 'ROI' in under a year much less around 140 days and that time frame be called 'very long'?

B. The other choice is Bitmain. I've used them since their s1 and most of my farm is now s9/t9's but - I am not going to constantly check to see if Bitmain has released another pre-order batch and then wait 1-2 months between ordering and getting them. Screw that noise.... Before Bitmain changed to the pay-now pre-order business model they were my #1 choice to buy from because of price/speed/power. Yes to-date Bitmain has always met their promised delivery date with them usually arriving at least a few days sooner than promised - kudo's for that one point.

Point is, waiting for new batches to be produced/released for sale every couple weeks was fine as long delivery is from pre-built stock like Bitmain used to do. Screw waiting 1-2 months after paying! Canaan almost always has stock and generally works out to about 1 week between ordering and delivery.

C. More reliable. Very few reports of issues with the Avalons. I'll see how mine hold up over the next couple years but so far looks like they should be uber-reliable. To me the build quality alone is worth the higher price per-THs and slightly lower power eff.

The s9's -- I've had good luck with them, 12 of them to-date ranging from batch-1 up to the last one delivered over a month ago (batch-25?). Rarely had any problems but yes 3 of them have had hash board failures and those are all over 1-year old. Out of the 12 s9's each with 3 boards in them, I'm good with that. Simce the boards were all repaired/replaced (paid of course) within 2 weeks or so, works for me  However - other folks not so lucky. So far the 4x t9's are all running perfect.

The Avalon 741 coming today will be that came today to replace the last full-speed s7 (a batch-5 screaming at average of 5.5THs!) I have online is the 3rd 741 I have along with 3x of the 721's. So far very happy with them all.

I'm personally don't really care about electricity bc i've two stores in local Mall.
One of them comes w free juice (240v etc) Other one 4 cents/kw ... so its make a sense...

I dont have any experience with Avalon, but im so excited... so let see

I agree with everyone said above.  I decided to go with the A741 due mostly for time of delivery and the hope of better reliability.  For the life of me I can't understand why when people are calculating ROI they don't count the dead time while waiting for the miner to show up.  This time like between now and Monday I'm going crazy thinking about how I want to get the miners online because that's time that I'll never get back again.  If comparing Avalon to Bitmain you need to add 45-60 days to your ROI calculation for Bitmain.  Also the other big thing to me is reliability of the miner.  Since I use hosting it's very important to me that my miners just run with the absolute minimal amount of human intervention.

Yes but I wouldn't go lower than a 750watt as that will be at its safety limit IMO. Remember 110 VAC power supplies are most efficient roughly anywhere from 50%-80% depending on the rating (bronze/gold/platinum). If it was a server power supply you could push those harder. Just plug the each board to one power supply only.

There is the server power supply route and breakout board which would be a overall cost savings.
