I am thhinking, is it really more in advantage to mine bitcoins thhan to just buy them in exchanges? Can we mine Bitcoin Cash with this miner?

It all depends on the cost of electricity. For me, it is less expensive to mine bitcoin than it is to purchase an equivalent amount of bitcoin directly from an exchange. Since BCC is an altcoin, I would probably discuss that in the altcoin section, however i would assume that this miner would be compatible.

No. People are buying these just for the fun of spending their hard-earned money... <That was sarcasm of course>  Tongue

Depending on your setup and cost of electricity yes it CAN be better than day-trading BTC on exchanges! I do very well with my farm. Also, as said by others BCC is NOT Bitcoin. It is a fork from it and should be discussed in the altcoin area.

Stupid question, sorry.

How do I power it down if I want to move the miner to another room?

Thanks and sorry for the stupid question, could not find the answer anywhere.

Go to CGminer config panel, and just type "poweroff" to More options, and it should stop mining, from this point you can wait a little to make it cool down and just shut down the PSU, and here you go

Don't worry, Canaan is much more reliable than BITMAIN. Have you opened up a ticket? I discovered that communication is most consistent when communicating through their ticketing system.

I have a question, I finally set up my 741 using Kano pool setting.
It has been roughly 24 hours and I have received 2 deposits one for 0.000129 BTC, very surprise they deposit so small.
and just checked recently and saw another one coming for 0.00045468.
I really thought the miner would do better than that or do I have a setting that is off?

This is what my miner looks like:

Hi guys....real noob here...so bear with me...I've read through all 30 something pages of the forum, and I'm thinking about ordering a few 741's, but just to clarify, for each unit, I have to purchase a PSU for it, and am I right in thinking that will add another few hundred dollars cost for each unit?  I see the price has gone up to 798 each now, so probably looking at around $1100 total per unit W/the PSU?  Appreciate any feedback...thanks.

80$ and you can get a rock solid PSU from sidehack
See the DPS1200 PSU Kit in this thread:

do you have 120 volt or 240 volt power?

if you can provide 220-240 volt power  the gear from sidehack is really good.

well under 100 bucks

se the avalon to -1  for a slight power/noise/hashrate drop  and sidehack's kit will work great.

I ordered another 741  should come soon.

If you have 110/120  volt  the psu will work but you would need to set the avalon to -2

Yeah, good point, I forgot this as a Finnish guy.

With 120V voltage the HP DPS-1200 is only able to provide 900W power which is not enough for the Avalonminer.

Ahhh...thanks...I forgot to mention my location...so I'm in the US...so have to be 120V....so the only option would be to set the hardware to -2?

Thanks

I doubt the A7 would work on DPS-1200 @ 110V even at Voff = -2. Another tip is dont try to top up your PSU spec output. it's always a prudent practice to leave some "room" for it to breath.

EVGA 1300W ATX psu is a good choice with 110/120V voltage.

I am surprised to find that Canaan bumped up the price now for both A471 and the controller.

Glad that I picked up four rigs and the pi in *USD* two weeks ago. Was hoping to pick up another rig and pi but no chance now Sad
