Giving a phone number is no big deal...looks like plenty are joining regardless of it. If you are that paranoid just join a different campaign. I decided to stick with Bit-X since it is obviously well run and pays well!

True enough although there are some people who don't use mobile phones with all the monopolies and the damn things being a bit overpriced nowadays but that aside I do think that more choices would work better for some.

Still fairly sure not everyone has a mobile some are still loyal landliners ^^.

Bit-X is going to reopen in 5 hours with a new weekly rate. Apparently better than the monthly option.

They've excluded altcoins so I'm switching.

For sure, everyone is gonna have to decide for themselves and to be honest it's not really one of those things where "everyone's doing it" is a very powerful argument.  I mean, I really just don't give out my real telephone number or even my real email address to companies.  Shit, I don't even give that stuff to my bank, I give them fake emails where they can send their spam.

Someone upthread (or maybe in another thread) brought up the idea of using a webservice to pass their "verification" of phone number but I'm just not convinced it's worth it when there are so many other good campaigns out there without the doxxing issues.

you could send a few bucks to buy a new number and register with that anyway if you think you are not giving up your phone number, although an email registration could be better than a phone number registration IMO

You dont even need to spend anything half the time you should be able to pick up sim cards for free with the phone companies looking to get you on their network.

It's not always as easy as that. Most sims in my country you need to top up to activate them and if you don't use them after x amount of time they get cut off. It's just a lot of extra hassle swapping your sim cards round just to verify something. I think they'd get a lot more peopel to their site if they removed this. Make it email verification or something.

It's possible they don't need more people. I see a lot of posters with their signatures on the forum, which means they don't have anything against sharing their number. Simple supply and demand. If people started leaving the campaign they'd be forced to drop the phone registration but at the moment they are doing fine.

Indeed, it seems to be working for them.  Apparently, me not wanting to join under these conditions makes me a kind of "paranoid" person.  However, since we paranoiders are so few, they are going to keep gathering info from the folks who give it to them.  As you said, if people would quit, they'd drop the requirement but since they don't have to, they obviously won't.

Yes. They are not accepting newbies. So you can not say that they are accepting all ranks. But, they have made a move that has not probably be seen by other sig campaigns before. They have announced to accept Sr. member & above with -ve trust !!! Please check their thread...

Both the campaign manager for bit-x and 777 have been (temporarily) banned. I might suggest at least temporarily putting an asterisk next to their respective campaigns as IMO the chances of participants receiving payment would go down significantly when the manager is banned.

Marcotheminer send some PM to campaign manager, offering his new sigcampaign bot manager.

He was sending unsolicited PMs and somebody must have reported them.

For Izanagi, not sure why he got banned but probably "insubstantial post+sig ad". https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978005.0

seems he is not the most sane people around. Check his trust feedbacks.

And of course he is not a signature campaign manager
