the whole australian tax office handling of bitcoin has been really weird, disjointed and contradictory, even shady, from the beginning ... like they were treating it as something special, or because of a special case they had a bee-in-their-bonnet about

If govt officials are more strategic they would have wanted to get their grubby lil hands on 1 million BTC, like they did with Ulbricht's 150k btc

Sounds like he's had some longstanding beefs with the taxman over the years. I wonder where all this will lead. It would be quite something if The Man ended up with 1 million coins.

They will probably use this as an excuse to dump hard as fuck. Then prop it back up

Can you imagine the news outlets if that was or implied satoshi?

And they auction off 1 million bitcoins?

how they gonna get the coins?

don't you believe that if he really is Satoshi, then he would be smart enough to take various security and/or preventative measures to guard, camouflage and or separate his stash of coins - so maybe at most the govt could get access to 10% of his stash, if that?

actually Australian media is the worst load of bullshit ever sprouted, over dramatised headlines and events, manipulated facts or no facts at all, just speculation or hearsay

in Australia bitcoins are classed as an asset and falls under the legislation capital gains tax

article sounds like the person is evading taxes, does not matter if it is bitcoin or not, the taxation office would still gun him down

I think you can place asks below bids on Bitfinex, but I don't know why anyone would want to, unless it confuses the bots or something.

I noticed even if there is a rally on bitcoin, a lot of alt coins are getting slow pumped, I guess when the action slows down all the chinese and whales can just dump etc

Whoa that's messed up on many levels. Hope he didn't really put it all in a trust controlled by a lawyer friend, who might be obligated to give up trust assets to the state? Or plot thickens of the elaborated hoax

@suda123 Central Banky is crashing the stock markets to send the world into a recession, likely leading to proxy war. Goldman Sachs announced yesterday there is a "65% chance" of a global financial meltdown. They control the markets. They're finally being half way honest. They're doing it for the lulz. Pushing precious metals is part of the agenda. Especially if you sign up to have your gold 'looked after'. Thus, receiving a shiny piece of paper in the mail; "You own 100 OZ Gold! Congratulations! It's stored in our maximum security facility half way across the world, so when everything does fall apart, their is absolutely no chance of you getting it! I mean, we'll send it right out!"

Yep. If you have that much, you divide it up into at least three stashes. The big main one you hope to keep, a much smaller one which is your backup in case your larger one gets compromised then one somewhere in the middle which you hope they won't bother with once they've got your main and your backup out of you. Then you have more just because you're paranoid. I wouldn't be surprised if SN had at least 10 cold storage wallets, all (exept one or two "sacrificial" wallets) encrypted and well hidden away in ways that the inventor of the world's first viable crypto currency could come up with and a good selection of hot wallets for walking around money.
