In which case, they were never 'transferred' and no control has been given up. Or, if they were moved afterwards, slowly, then who owns the 1m unmoved coins?!

Thank you, it just gets complicated for me if i was to switch wallets.  I wasn't even able to just move blocks to my laptop from pc as it messed up so i'll wait.  So i could send the bitcoins and then it just wont update till whenever but the guy on the other side would get them immediately?

Snark aside, that line is, in my opinion, our take-home message so far.

By itself, it doesn't exclude the possibility that Wright is Satoshi, but it does add additional requirements on what counts as proof -- and what we've seen so far doesn't constitute that, imo.

Does he still have any github privileges? Maybe one of those fancy crypto-sig thingys?

If he takes the limelight and admits to being satoshi I'll want some confirmation in that direction.

If not, he either wants to be ignored or deserves to be ignored.

There's an alert function built into the Bitcoin core wallet for telling people about vital updates to the wallet. Alerts can only be made by signing them by a specific ECDSA key. Only a few people hold that key, and they include Satoshi Nakamoto, Gavin Andresen and theymos.

If Satoshi signed a message with that key, and both Gavin Andresen and theymos confirmed it wasn't them it would give confirmation  of who he is.

Alert message

Alerts are broadcast using the same TCP relay system as block and tx messages. They are not encoded in a special transaction. Unlike block and tx relaying, alerts are sent at the start of every new connection for as long as the alert is in effect. This ensures that everyone receives the alert.

How long to relay the alert.
How long to consider the alert valid.
An alert ID number.
A list of alerts that should be canceled upon receipt of this alert.
Exactly which versions of Bitcoin are affected by the alert. Unaffected versions still relay the alert for the benefit of older versions.

Only alerts that are signed by a specific ECDSA public key are considered valid. The known private key holders are Satoshi Nakamoto, Gavin Andresen and theymos. There are other people able to issue alerts in the event of the incapacitation of the aforementioned.

Yeah, this reminds me of the fake Mormon will of Howard Hughes.  He knows he can't access the coins, but if he gets anyone to believe he can, he could pledge them for collateral to a loan.  This is really strange because Bitcoin is probably the easiest asset to prove you truly control. Just sign something with your private key. Frauds are so easily sniffed out with just the minimum amount of due diligence. You almost have to WANT to be fooled in order to get defrauded.
