It has got a story - it reminds me of Withnail and I where they say 'We've come on holiday by mistake!'

Only this time it's 'we invented a coin as a joke and people are taking it seriously!'

There are so many terrible alts out there, they have as much chance as any...  I look at them and think, yep - 'all this is just insane' and you know what? I might well have other alts I took seriously that will disappear before this one does.

I have no idea which ones to buy if BTC dips this weekend - LTC just mirrors BTC, the rest are so random it's impossible to know....  But one will surprise everyone, one day - and that is the point.

Great records are rarely number ones when they're first released.

OK guys, I did it.  I bought the DOGE!  130,000 of them!

Why'd I do it you ask?  Well in addition to the fact that their mascot is so cute, I figure supporting this coin is win-win:

Case 1: It actually becomes significant
=========================
Outcome: WIN

It would be so fitting in our high-strung world if something like DOGE coin actually overtook LTC.  It reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.  The DOGE project is so stupid it just might thrive!

Case 2: It goes down in a spiralling ball of flames:
===============================
Outcome: WIN

If it goes down in flames due to some mis-tuned parameter, etc., our collective conscience will remember not to buy into the next big alt coin hype.  This is a win because it will strengthed the perception of bitcoin as a well-thoughtout coin, and the alts as silly copies that made minor (yet possibly destructive) changes to the protocol.

In conclusion:

much wow!
such difficulty!!
v profit!!!

Adam. You've been around a long time. Hell, you started this thread. Why in the world did you sell some of your BTC?

what makes yo think that a hero member had/have that much of BTC, hell when I knew about Bitcoin I was thinking if it was worth it to invest 500€, it took me sometime to decide apparently the price was at 10$ when I first invested, and BTW I thought it was safer to invest on mining hardware than actually buying BTC, you know in case that BTC falls to zero at least I would have the hardware (worst decision ever), I mined couple of bitcoins when the difficulty was around 2-4 millions and I sold all of them to "ROI" again worst decision ever, but then I had more Faith in Bitcoin and decided to invest all I can (didn't have that much to invest though) and bought back in batches from 10-130 (best decision ever), believe me I am not cashing all my Bitcoins at any point, I will cash some when the price is $5000 or so to buy a flat ( a father of 2 kids and taking care of another 2 kids and live on rent)  but otherwise I will try to support BTC by getting more merchant accepting it.

today I was trying to convince a store about Bitcoin, the employee knew about bitcoin but didn't want to talk about it much(it wasnt up to him anyway), so I had to sell for cash to pay them...

Yeah, a wallet service got hacked.  I think this was similar to the inputs.io theft.

I was referring to the DDoS vulnerability posted on Reddit on the 25th.  Apparently you could add 1GB to the blockchain for a few pennies or something.  Someone wrote a scrypt to prove the point, but turned it off because he didn't want to be a jerk.  I think this got fixed.

Either way:

BTW--if there's any new readers out there who are taking my purchase (or anyone's for that matter) of DOGE coin as an endorsement that I think this is a wise investment, please don't.  I think (80%) it will go down in a spiralling ball of flames!  I did it just for the lulz and for the reasons I explained here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg4173898#msg4173898.
