good morning I open bitcoinwisdom to look at the movement to see the price at 1040 and a dump follow right away and brings the price to 990  Cheesy

some men want to watch the world burn  Cheesy  it has been happening repeatedly now, the price goes up the bids build up then a dump follow and again and all over again...

I don't think so. Someone is making a lot of money off the manipulation. Most of us are just fish in a sea full of whales.

I think the massive dump triggered a shutoff switch....  Shocked

Yeah, but it wasn't even massive, just medium, yet if they have a shutoff for that it is complete garbage. It almost is like a gut fear reaction, Gox doesn't want the price dropping so they just turn off their exchange, haha.

BTW this is what wall street does Wink

The dump was cut off wasn't it? I assumed it was lower than 990.

It was at 990 and seemingly still going and click the exchange turns off.

Circuit breakers yes, but this is Bitcoin that wasn't even a massive sell, it was just a sell timed relatively well to bust through a bit of support out the bottom of a pennant.

Thats pretty hilarious if they have added a feature like this. Fine with me. Keep people from manipulating a market.

Dumping more than a 100 btc is either someone who is an idiot or someone trying to push the market lower.

I don't mind killing some manipulation, but it should be public and transparent. The exhchange should be paused for a moment and then resumed, not turned off for 20 minutes to multiple hours (who knows how long this will last. The last goxloop lasted hours.) The person could then of course make individual sells, 50-75btc at a time, so in the end it would stop too much and it just ends up being trading in the end.

IMO: this is not a pause unless the dump they paused was not posted at all.. which is the most iffy idea.

However looking at the chart much more coins have been dumped in the last 24hrs with no stuttering.. so I think it was a ddos perhaps

That reason would be that MT Gox is a black hole that does not pay its customers out (depending where you live, anyway).

If you live in Japan, wouldn't you be rich?  Grin

I live in Japan and just got "trusted" status with Gox. It has been a very slow process (started 2 months ago). So the first day I have it I'm like 'weeeeeeee, let's start arbing...' Only to find out when I log in that my daily withdrawal limit has not changed. Still stuck at $1,000 a day. So anyways, I tried to withdraw $1,000 into my Japanese USD account to test it; however, the withdrawal has been mysteriously cancelled twice now with no explanation. Still waiting for answers. /sadface

Keep me posted on this. I thought the MTGOX black hole was just for us yanks. How does that place still operate? Been waiting on my wire xfer since Nov 11. got an email a week ago from tech support telling me they don't even have an ETA for it yet. Magical Tux is letting a billion dollar opportunity bleed market share like a hemophiliac gargling razorblades.

Why is no one on the other exchanges panic selling? It really looks like it was a cutoff. Is that not a free chance to sell now?

Edit: Possibility huge account was hacked and that triggered the stop? Not sure if Motgox would have that capability.

well the same reason there sub 1k before hand. They're victim to flow of fiat in and out.

I'm still just confused about this being caused by that measly selloff .. and the dumper should just dump when he can.

I've been unable to access the webpage so I'm assuming unless they have a panic button where they can just cut the system off hard this has to be ddos

yet the buy are still flowing through this is oddddddd

I just hope the dump isn't over 10,000 because I didn't prepare any fiat for that.

Gox also appears to have some kind of in-house bot with access to the exchange still and it is still buying, hahaha. This bots seems to be the 15btc buy bot that has been around for a while trying to push the price upwards every 5-10 minutes.

Since I don't play on gox I can still sell some coins if the market is going that way.. but I think no need to panic till we get some info from someone out of gox.

Gox's entire website is down at the moment. Maybe a coordinated DDOS or just a coincidence.

BTW I am really curious about Mtgox, I see allot of people selling there, and most of the time huge sells appears and I still wonder how do they get their money off the exchange? I mean why does anyone still sell there ? or maybe there is a premium club of members that still can get money in/out fast than others ?

gox has a lower volume than Stamp yet a deeper book order comparing to Bitstamp, in my experience Bitstamp is the only exchange where I can get money in/out in a matter of a couple of days, if I send early enough during the day and having a bit of luck my deposits/withdrawals were credited the same day sometimes...
