Remember when there were zany pumps all of the time, I has thought we may have seen the last of insane P&D alt runs

This is one of the things that intrigues me most about this year. If BTC goes to sleep, will people turn to alts?

The difference between now and 2015/16 when that was at its peak is that alts subsequently had their moment and delivered fuck all with knobs on. Then again that's probably not going to turn anyone off.
Eth is definitely pumping more often it seems like, i have been margin trading it and seeing it go up more than when only btc increases. People might be getting wild on them altcoin trades.

Yeah, but it also dumps harder... it is just a matter on being on the good side of trade...

I hate to admit it but today I bought a gold coin.

After 1.5 years of break, this is the first gold I bought.

Gold may see some serious action this year.

Why should you hate to admit it?

I own some gold. And some silver. I see PMs as complementary to Bitcoin. The goals are the same, they are aligned: a hedge against the total fuckery that is the world global fiat-based monetary system.

It doesn't have to be either-or like some people paint it.

plus, you can't build little castles and stonehenges out of BTC

It's nice to have a little wealth to play with.

"Hedge fund managers posses unique insight, into emerging client sentiment and into capital flows that are not yet printed. As a manager of cryptocurrencies with multiple digital asset offerings, we consider orderbook information a key component of our strategies. Firsthand observations of these cryptocurrency orders over time supports our conclusion that Bitcoin's December 2018 price of $3150 is the ultimate low."

Somebody was observing walls and not debating global warming and they noticed the bottom. Cheesy

Absolutely, I have mentioned this previously https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg48779651#msg48779651, and I also believe that low 3000 mark is very much the bottom or close to it. The bitstamp order book is the big tell.

Happy New Year! Let the new 2019 be bullish as 2017! In Dec. 2017 just when we reached 20K I had a nightmare  of 5-6 consecutive earthquakes which destroyed my new house, which I could buy with my bitcoins. This turned to be a prophecy, although I didn't take it seriously then. Yesterday, just 1 year after my previous dream, I had a  dream that I bought a green lambo (and I was somewhat dissapointed for its lack of comfort  Wink). I still wonder if the dream means that the next spike will be around my stash equalized to a lambo or to a lambo+house+reserve. Anyway, this would mean that we will have a good year of price well above 10K (and why not above 20K?). #bakkt+etf

I am thinking that most of the big pricks of today are the dickheads that bought in the Nov-Dec 2017 run up and are now fucked by the bearfest of 2018.

I discuss the whole content of that video in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5090244.msg48978949#msg48978949

It is in spanish, but if there is some interest I could translate it.

TLDR: All those potential attack vectors requiere physical access to the device among other things. And even if all requirements would be met (which is already enough negligence on the user part) there are also additional countermeasures for additional security (ie. passphrase).

Not all.

Yes... if you are referring to the RF side-channel attack it also requires physical access to exploit. Please read my post in the thread above and you will see what I mean.

No Habla that thread.

I was referring to the blue have unintentional signals emanating from it that are increased when a usb cable is plugged in to add signal strength and the fact those signals send out screen output. so no there is no possession of the item needed. Although to get the seed/pass/key, I would assume you must be listening upon setup but the pass phase can be got anytime you log in. I'm really not familiar with hardware wallets. I linked the exact time the blue was being torn apart (figuratively and literally).

TL;DR: As you say, It still would need physical access to the device to use/extract the seed. Also, that sort of tiny RF emanations are pretty common and difficult to prevent in many devices and the range and circumstances in which they can be properly recovered are extremely thin. It is an interesting "lab conditions" demo, but not that much practical risk in real life.

Also, Ledger has issued a post about it: https://www.ledger.fr/2018/12/28/chaos-communication-congress-in-response-to-wallet-fails-presentation/

Quote
Measure the signal at very close distance

Arbitrary, same room is enough.

Quote
Have a high reproducibility. It means that the position of the receiver and the attacked device must be exactly the same – the position of the USB cable is also paramount (as it acts as an antenna). If the conditions are not exactly the same, the machine learning classifier won’t work properly.

Untrue that learning baseline can be applied to offsets. and thats just off the top of my head.

Thanks man, I totally forgot haha!

This year will be strange paying taxes, on 11.2k / BTC (in NL you have to pay 1.2% on the value of your crypto on the first of january of the fiscal year). But not hard to do, I love my country so I have no problem paying some taxes.

are we all waiting for jan 3rd proof of keys ? Market is boring as hell

Some exchanges will probably block withdrawals.
It will be interesting to see which ones.

EDIT : Hitbtc seems to be one them.
A good reason to ditch them.

HitBtc has been on scam exchange list forever, it's the same guys that started Bytecoin.

Well, very nice to see this rally. However, even if this is a suckers rally, that low 3000 area looks fucking solid. I've stated on here before that Bitstamp's order book is a strong indicator telling us where the bottom is. Why I think this, is because Bitstamp is what seems to be an honest market and has no margin or shorting. When the price was at 3200 you needed about 2800 btc to be sold to take the price down to the 3000 level, but, if 2800 btc were bought the price would go to 4400.

At the 6000 level the order book was actually balanced between the buys and sells, hence it could break down with relative ease, in comparison to the 3000 level. There is massive buy support at the 3000 level and very little selling support. It's simple, not only is 3000 considered a good level to buy, we also get twice as many btc for the same amount of fiat compared to the 6000 level. And the sellers obviously don't want to sell at that level because what's the point, they have already lost over 80% from the highs, might as well just leave it to be lost, or hope that btc repeats it's historical patterns and booms again in a few years.

Excellent post Somac! I originally missed it so Im glad you put the link up today. I took several hits off of my Hopium bong after reading. https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-16913770-smoke-pot-bong-hand-holds-water-pipe

what's all this happy fucking new year bullshit?!?

2019 is looking to be a major shit show, I don't see any happiness anywhere this year, sorry but that's the truth ...

climate marxists have infested the largest institutions and are spreading their filthy eco-facist lies and propaganda ... the world is in debt of historic proportions, most of which will be defaulted on or inflated out of existence .... wealth, assets, means-of-production and yields are becoming concentrated in fewer and fewer hands ... decision making and power is becoming increasingly centralised and prone to corruption, incompetence, failed ideologies and nonsensical thinking ... individuals wanting true freedom make plans to build their own islands in the middle of the fucking ocean is how fucked up things are
