1h #stronghands Bitfinex has a better price, I did not notice it because I'm trading at Binance. Price currently at Binance is $3,700 below, we will probably follow than in an hour, that green candle though. LONG BTC!

Most of the old electrolytic caps were just a little aluminum can, with a borax solution in them, with a little rubber seal to seal the end. After a few decades/heat the rubber seal cracks/leaks, and the cap slowly drains onto the circuit board (or in the case of the older point-to-point, directly on the chassis.
I get tired of hearing guitar guys brag/whine about their 'treasured classic guitar amp' with all original caps. "I don't want to update it, I want it to sound like it really does". Earth to Guitar Hero, that amp has not sounded like it's supposed to, for decades. Fix the sumbitch. Yeah, those Mallory Orange Drops are really just bragging rights, anyway.
I've got a little 1974 Fender Vibro-Champ (think Joe Walsh solo on 'Rocky Mountain Way'). Damn right I re-capped it. I've got a '62 Hammond M3 (the baby B-3), damn right I re-capped it's power supply. I've got a '64 RT-3 that sounds great, but it's next.

Speaking of caps do solid caps have a lesser chance of exploding when they fail?
no goo, no 'splode last longer too So no worries on new products now or are the Chinese still using shit design?
You get what you pay for, all aluminum can electrolytics have a finite life span. Go with Nichicon, Panasonic or United Chemi-Con, brand name Japanese products, and pay attention to the temperature and lifetime ratings.

Amp belongs to this young fella played bass with us for a bit. One day we are raging away and the amp goes FzzzzzzzzPOP with the accompanying smell of the magic smoke. I'm like "skid it across into the shack, I'll see what I can do."
Pull it apart, the final is this monster 24pin IC with the whole output side blown off it. At the time the part was $35 or something. I Digikey one up and get it in <LESSON ALERT 1 !> disregarding the first law of electronic troubleshooting; Thou shall check power supply rails...
Fire it up, a slight crumble sound from the speaker then nothing. Get to poking around, both the supply regs and some zeners have failed short and unregulated DC is present at the device...shit.
Order up those parts, hoping against hell that the $35 chip has protected itself somehow, it does have a laundry list of self protective features integrated.
About this time we started seeing another bassist. Some of you may know how band breakups can be. The kid took it pretty hard and broke contact.
Got the supply parts in and fired it up...nothing. <LESSON ALERT 2 !> I have a common character flaw. It's not that I'm a quitter so much as when I fuck stuff up due to my own laziness, inattention or stupidity it really kicks me in the balls. Case in point; walking away from an engine assembly project, bottom end all bolted up, without wrapping it up in plastic, then diving into a fabrication project without paying attention and spraying the open engine with the grinder...that fucker is still sitting there 4 years later.
So the thing got slid under the bench and collected dust as a constant, depressing reminder of my lameitude, with the added social weight that the kid probably figures I stole it from him.
Well, I been trying to get my life together and clear out these projects that are dragging me down. This made it to the top of the pile and it turns out the chips are EOL now and are going for $7. So now I get to email the kid and relieve myself of the psychic weight of the whole episode.
Sorry for the uncharacteristic wall of text.
Congratulations for fixing it, repairing yourself a device always makes you feel useful, we are immersed in a great scam of programmed obsolescence, repair or rebuild something that does not work, it is incomparable, it is a good personal experience.

He is trying to get the SEC to say he is Satoshi. Or give him something he can twist as a half truth.

Oh yeah... hadn't thought about that possible connection. By the way, it is funny that we have not had many members of this thread asserting that they lost money in Quadrigacx.

Ya, the cactus, but I'm pretty sure he's not active at all after the drop to 6k, let alone whatever 3k did to him.

What do you guys think about that one? https://www.binance.com/en/trade/ONG_BTCLet's see what we got here. Binance, the possibly biggest crypto exchange there is, makes an announcement on Feb/15th about listing a shitcoin (ONG) whi ch is the 1746th coin on CMC btw, and right after the listing this is the picture you see. If this isn't a scam I don't know what is.

The Metric That Helps Call Bitcoin Bubbles and Bottoms Created by noted investor and podcast host Trace Mayer, the Mayer Multiple is defined as “the multiple of the current bitcoin price over the 200-day moving average.”
Mayer Multiple Formula:
Bitcoin market price / 200 day MA value = Mayer Multiple
In technical analysis, it’s generally considered a bullish (or positive) indicator when prices are above the long-term moving average (MA), whereas it’s considered bearish (or negative), when the price is below the moving average. https://www.coindesk.com/mayer-multiples-the-metric-that-helps-call-bitcoin-bubbles-and-bottoms
