I’m self employed, my partner & I run one successful business (online ladies fashion store) & we’ve just started another one.

I’m in my early 30’s, I don’t have a private pension. I’ve been thinking for a while that I need to start one, my girl does too. The thing is though, like the post above me states - Some pension plans are a scam. What if I die before I even get back what I pay in over the next 30-35 years?

This is where bitcoin comes into play....I have plenty of bitcoin & to be honest even if I just keep 5 until I’m 65 the price then will probably be obscenely high that it’ll be so much better thsn a shitty pension any way.

I used to think I'd live to be around 120 years old. But now, I'm thinking, if I even get to 90 or even 85, that I would have lived a good life anyway. (Or even earlier, but not too early.)

Just need to get that first elusive million, then live on interest.

There are the traditional methods of self-pensioning (without relying on government) and the alternatives are crypto, but not yet mature or stable.

And then, of course, you really need to get term life insurance. Term life is the most basic, most pure, insurance. That is why it is also the cheapest. Something like $30 per month to cover $500k for a 10 year term. You may or may not need longer than that.

You can create your own pension fund by just accumulating fiat, various stocks, Bitcoin and perhaps some metals or whatever. Doesn't take obscene amounts to at least be safe in retirement.

The government pension fund here is legally mandatory if you're not self-employed or only making money through capital gains, which is why I just threw the $50 per month number out there. That's enough to at least not be scrambling for bread crumbs later on if you don't start very late. And with a couple hundred a month in stocks you'll live far above average if you don't buy the BitConnect IPO 100% of the time.

Retirement funds aren't fun or exciting, but unless you're very sure that you will end up with "fuckyoumoney" anyways you best get started early. And that's most people given the wealth distribution data. If people started thinking about this earlier in life I'd be surprised if the wealth gap didn't start shrinking though, good thing education prepares them adequately for questions that matter. But that's off the point.

Have you read the conversations about rejuvenation and halting aging we've had on the WO?

Also, what's a term insurance and how can it cover $500k over 10 years with only $30 per month? Takes 1389 years without compounding to get to $500k at that rate, so I'm kinda confused.

I agree with you that 85-90 is much time for lived a good life when people age 70+ so he is not good working always she/he suffer many problems it is maximum people, but per month save $30 so it is the good decision if everyone can follow this for backup and light her future.

Traditional Pension program works perfectly fine in my side of the world if someone is a government employee and guess private pension is more or less same everywhere.

I didn't think about any pension plan yet but already secured investment in Property and got a modest amount of BTC for the long term. Call it hODL or pension plan, but it's sealed for good 10-15 years. Though I still hesitate to call long term BTC holding as a pension plan because we don't know what future holds and one should always be kept an open mind if something change.

I used to think I'd live to be around 120 years old. But now, I'm thinking, if I even get to 90 or even 85, that I would have lived a good life anyway. (Or even earlier, but not too early.)

The way our lifestyle changing drastically. even 85 marks look stretch to me. My grandpa and ma died when they were 102 and 103 respectively due to natural cause. I can't even imagine natural death in my current lifestyle and I am kinda living a healthy life. Physically Fit-No smoking-below average drinker.

Hey? hey guys? Your country is in deep fucking debt. Your pension will be purged.

In my country we are simply civilized enough to alter the deal rather than tell people to their face that they got rekt.

What a mess !

Mt Gox Creditors Warn Mass Sale Could Put Bitcoin Fork Prices At Risk

https://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-creditors-warn-mass-sale-could-put-bitcoin-fork-prices-at-risk

"The trustee’s document indicates that it has approved claims for 802,521 BTC (worth $3,233,256,500), 792,296 BCH ($124,953,000), $38,165,664 in U.S. dollars, and other amounts in various fiat currencies.

There’s an obvious issue, however. There is not enough secured cryptocurrency still in the Gox coffers to cover approved claims for BTC and BCH; neither is there enough fiat currency to cover the cryptocurrency pro rata in cash at current valuations.

And it’s not yet clear how Kobayashi will allocate the funds when the payouts to creditors eventually start. So far, he has set a date of April 26, 2019, as the submission deadline for a rehabilitation plan proposal, however.

...

Other currencies listed include BitcoinX (BCX), Bitcoin Diamond (BCD), Lightning Bitcoin (LBTC), Bitcoin Private, Super Bitcoin (SBTC), Clams, Bitcoin Interest, Bitcore (BTX) and Bitcoin Atom.

The group believes that the amount of additional cryptocurrency would be too much for any exchange to handle and it would be extremely complex to manage the private keys for such coins.

The draft adds:

“We note that the volume of each of these coins held by the Trustee, in almost all cases, is significantly higher than the global daily traded volumes of these currencies, therefore we are concerned that any attempt by the Trustee to sell them en masse on the open market would result in a downward movement of the value and also not be in the creditors interests.

As a result, it proposes that the keys be auctioned off after the BTC and BCH has been distributed or moved to a secure location.

...

In the draft proposal drawn up by Mt. Gox Legal goes on to list other items set out how the member creditors would wish to see Kobayashi move forward.

Firstly, funds held by the Gox estate in fiat currency should be paid out at the same rate as would have been the case under bankruptcy. “This includes, where legally appropriate, the inclusion of interest payments,” the draft states.

Mt. Gox Legal also said it anticipates that after distribution of the cash claims there will be a mix of cash and cryptocurrencies remaining. That should be distributed “pro-rata to bitcoin claims,” it said, while it suggested that creditors be offered the choice of receiving cryptocurrency either in accounts with exchanges or to private wallets.

The trustee should also not undertake further sales or purchases of bitcoin or bitcoin cash as part of the civil rehabilitation plan, as has happened in the past. Additionally, shareholders Karpeles, Jeb McCaleb and Tibanne should not receive any payout in fiat or cryptocurrency or any benefit in kind.

Mt. Gox Legal intends to present the plan to the trustee on March 22."

CONCLUSION : Next few hours are critical !

What a mess !

It's marvellously Goxy that Gox manages to fuck the trillions of coins that didn't even exist when it did. That's about as Goxy as you can possibly get.

Most of the forks are dead now anyway. I was having a rummage through mine and found hardly any of them could move or be deposited to an exchange.
