Arrie, I'm certainly not a doctor, but I want to share an experience.

My mother has Lupus for over 15 years now. She's over 70.
Starting two years ago, cortisone did not always do the trick & she almost became paralyzed in her limbs & her moving ability drastically decreased.

The breakthrough came from food supplements.
She is the doctor of herself now, cos mainstream doctors more or less laughed at her - when asking for advise.
I even criticized this at the beginning, but I have to admit that these supplements worked wonders on her.
Your body needs - what it can't get from food.

As for myself, I'm just happy to see her move freely again.

Dont know what MTX is, but no.
My knee has an inflammation and is swollen, so the doctor punctured it and sucked out all the yellow/brownish goo from it (there is a syringe full of it beside the leg, he's on the second one when I took the picture) and then he injected cortisone. I have to do this every couple of years or so. So far it has worked every time.

It’s surprises me how medicine is practiced in different places.  This pic would be grounds for a huge malpractice claim (in the US) if there was any slight infection post procedure.

What in that picture would make you think there is malpractice?

No sterile field.
No obvious cleansing/disinfecting agent.
No personal protection equipment for the provider.( used to keep provider safe but also to keep infective agents from being transferred to patient.)

I am not saying this is malpractice.  Dr’s are so risk adverse in the US that all of the above would be mandated.  If they were not used and an infection ensued would easily be considered malpractice. (In the US). Medicine practiced this way is significantly less expensive than if this same procedure would be done in the US.

The white paper cloth under the knee and all the equipment is sterile, the doc washed his hands and then soaked them in alcohol before the procedure, the knee and surrounding areas was washed with alcohol before the procedure.
I worked at a hospital in my youth and i must say that this is standard procedure both then and now.

I wasn’t trying to demean the care you received.  Yours is a perfectly acceptable method.

In the US alcohol prep is not considered an effective agent at creating a sterile field.  Accessing a joint space like your knee is held to a higher standard of reduced microbial transfer compared to say a blood draw or iv start.  An infection in a joint space is much more difficult to treat.

I actually wish treatment was more like you received since it would greatly reduce the cost of health care in the US.  The patients just look at a medical outcome that is not perfect as a lottery ticket in the US.

No worries, i didn't take it that way, just clarifying what was going on in the picture.
Infection in a joint is indeed a pain (pun intended) to treat. Come to think of it, I think it was treated with both klorhexidin and alcohol.

Lol, not much of a techno nerd, but, yes, those legs never see the sun. I always wear long trousers.
Upper body is slightly more brown however (no pictures will be provided).

There is one thing I don't like about the procedure. They have switched cortisone. They now use Lederspan, and that does not give you that cortisone high that you used to get from the one they used before. Too bad, that was kind of the treat for enduring a needle poking around in your knee.

Funny world where the 'least successful' thread on the forum has 21277581 views. That be like ... more views of this thread than total eventual Bitcoin, yo.

Seems it is succeeding spectacularly. That you cannot so detect makes it all the more delicious.

Plenty of other threads on the forum, if'n you don't care for this one.
