The irony here is that if instead of being insolvent Gox enabled withdrawals today, we'd be well under $400 right now just from the arbitrage action. In an odd plot twist, Gox insolvency actually saved the day on a very short term basis.

Well this is sad. Not only because I'll never get my bitcoins back but because it looks bad in general. Karples will go down as the greatest enemy bitcoin ever had.
I usually don't wish anything bad for any human being but this time I really hope that Mark owes some money or btc to Yakuza or some criminal syndicate and they are going after him to show a bit of that ball pointed hammer to his knuckles so he never codes anything again... I have never done any business with Gox myself but the thing he is doing is just plain wrong and you deserve a punishment when you do something like this.

From ##mtgox-chat on free-net, the real SarahCoinBit showed up and says:
<Herodes> SarahCoinBit: you probably don't know anything about the current situation then, so be careful about the amount of abuse you will now receive. You haven't even gotten a message about hte fact that you no longer have a job? <SarahCoinBit> Herodes: I work remotely. The system were down but somehave started to come back up. Am trying to find out what is happening
So maybe this is all a FUD

I wish if I had more FIAT in stamp now.... I would be really happy, I waited for this day for 3 weeks now and I used all the $45K I had there
Mine was invested during the last hours at midprice $448. So the 2-month long quest is over. Gained about BTC400, though my loss of BTC250 in Mt.Gox should be debited from this amount. Bitcoin, you may now rise! I will go to my castle and occasionally post if there is something important. Very nicely called. Let it rise. Of course after we all get cheap coins hahaha

This is an excerpt from the 'leaked' document. (emphasis mine)
"The reality is that MtGox can go bankrupt at any moment, and certainly deserves to as a company. However, with Bitcoin/crypto just recently gaining acceptance in the public eye, the likely damage in public perception to this class of technology could put it back 5~10 years, and cause governments to react swiftly and harshly. At the risk of appearing hyperbolic, this could be the end of Bitcoin, at least for most of the public."
How do you put back a technology 5 to 10 years that is barely 5 years old? I guess you tend towards the lower end. Or perhaps he meant to say 5 to 10 weeks. Also notice the phrase "this could be the end of Bitcoin". Sound familiar? It looks more than anything like the wording was chosen specifically to create a panic.
edit: bolding
You delay its growth and implementation by that time -- you don't go back in time or rollback the technology. Thanks. I thought of that too but I still think weeks or months rather than years.

TBH what we need now is just more FUD so this price properly crashes to <100$ so that even those cheap bastards can get some coinz.

... and indeed he is ... there are few more like him in the 'community' who's weak hearts will be tested by the ruthless market and found wanting.

"At this point 744,408 BTC are missing due to malleability-related theft which went unnoticed for several years."
This simply can't be right unless a few insiders were stealing them.
