Speaking of Satoshi Nakamoto, I have a "historical" question.  When he set up the first mining node and started the current blockchain, did he see it as "the" blockchain, that one day would be used to buy servers from Dell, support investment funds, send people to jail, etc.; or did he think of it as an alpha-test of the protocol, that would be used only by computer nerds, only long enough to show that the idea was sound?

(IIRC there is nothing about that in the published paper.  Did he comment on that in his "epistles"?)

Yes.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1r8iwt/satoshi_and_hal_finney_discuss_the_value_of/

Hall is wrong about the economical aspect though.  Bitcoin wouldn't take the value of all the wealth in the world.  It would take over the value of the things it replaces (and perhaps some more for the value it creates), meaning the value of fiat (as currency and a savings vehicle), and to a certain degree of gold, bonds etc. (as savings vehicles) + who knows what.
Money is a commodity in its own right, and is valued as such.  It's not because the value of a house would be measured in BTC that bitcoin takes over the value of that house.

Surprised we have not heard from Adam

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/cavirtex/btccad

adam is too busy digging up his "hodl" coins from his backyard and trying to remember the BIP38 password so he can sell.

Honestly, I think we can look at something like doge to get an idea of bitcoin's future from this point forward. Doge is like bitcoin on fast forward. We'll probably go several years from here just steadily bleeding down, until we hit <$100. From there, maybe we start all over again and go up?

Don't be ridiculous... Dogecoin was attempting to emulate bitcoin and attempting to play on some fun and attempting to shoestring itself to the success of bitcoin.. surely dogecoin had some success, but it has pretty much run its course... and it has pretty much had its fun in the sun.... ... bitcoin, on the other hand, is on a longer-term trajectory... so DONT be trying to make these kinds of difficult and inappropriate analogies b/c it just makes you look dumb.... and if you were in high school but acting as if you were in college.. or reverse.. woops.. am I onto something?   Cheesy

It is quite easy to be a bitcoin bear in 2014, none of you can deny that. We're almost finished with this year and it has been nothing but down, sideways, down, sideways, down, sideways, up (slightly), sideways, down, sideways, down...

What did Carl Sagon say about insanity? "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

If you're not a bear right now, then I'm sorry, but you're just insane.

I used to be insane as well, but don't worry, there is time to see the light. In my case, falling, iggor, dump3r and friends helped me see the error in my ways.

Bids filled. Waited for that since Sunday  Grin Also thinking about moving funds on finex and opening some longs.

I see many here are buying back!  Smiley

not buying back, just not yet.... the whole scene is just not convincing (yet)... feels good to be right when others calls you a troll for using your brain.

Yes.. I know you tend to be selectively memory correct... How's your litecoin advocacy campaign going?

I made a shit load of money out of Litecoin (still hold a couple of coins), I thought I showed you screenshots ?  you butthurt you cant handle me, to be honest I really don't give a shit about what you think anymore.

oh fuck..

Robin Williams just died

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2014/08/11/robin-williams-dies-at-63/

RIP you silly funny brilliant man : (

Robin Williams died today! Robin Williams was the Chairman of the Board of the Funny Man Broadcasting Systems, and he died at eleven o'clock this morning of a suspected suicide, and woe is us! We're in a lot of trouble!

So. A rich little man with grey hair died. What has that got to do with the price of rice, right? And *why* is that woe to us? Because you people, and three hundred million other Americans, are listening to me right now. Because less than three percent of you people read books! Because less than fifteen percent of you read newspapers! Because the only truth you know is what you get over this tube. Right now, there is a whole, an entire generation that never knew anything that didn't come out of this tube! This tube is the Gospel, the ultimate revelation. This tube can make or break presidents, popes, prime ministers... This tube is the most awesome God-damned force in the whole godless world, and woe is us if it ever falls in to the hands of the wrong people, and that's why woe is us that sweet intelligent wonderful man Robin Williams died. (ft "Network")

Fuck it.

Woe indeed.

Saw a blurp scroll by that feds just announced, among other warnings about bitcoin, that "bitcoin is a target for hackers" - good thing credit cards not a target Huh

Missed what else they said, but glad they're on their toes protecting us with this breaking news.

In the past, if there was some sort of insider information, would the price drop unexpectedly because "manipulators" that knew this information was trying one last time to get cheap coins before this information was released?

Maybe I am dreaming here, but it could just be an attempt to "steal" a few more coins for a good price.   Undecided

Maybe later this week there will be news such as "Winklevoss ETF approved" or something exciting like that.  Grin

I can dream can't I???

Btc is not much recourse after theft. Credit card fraud mostly absorbed by the the companies.

how that ETF will have any impact on price ? the contrary, investors that would go and buy on exchanges would use that ETF, the twin brothers need to liquidate their 100K+ coin somehow.

I think news of an Bitcoin ETF, even if it is the twins coins funding it at first, will spur major interest.  But it doesn't have to be that.  It could be something else entirely.  Although news doesn't seem to move the price like it used to, unfortunately.

Like I said, just dreaming here. Wink
