In principle they can't, but maybe DPR made a deal that included forfeiture of the coins. Edit: dropt beat me to it.

Trials are for guilt of crime, not assets seized and forfeited, which he did not contest.

The ask side has 10k to 450.
Everyone except for the whales and bullbears have been getting burned trying to get excited about bitcoin again.
I am going on a limb here and saying our run up to 450 was just like the run up to 1000 and we now have to deflate again. Yay

Good lord this is absolutely brutal
 Why would anyone buy a bitcoin now except me
Spend? Hold? Wait for inevitable correction after panic sell? Lots of reasons.

Those who sold above 420 are smart. Will come back to 350's

Read the announcement: Ross agreed to the sale. Yes, I should have read it, DPR agreed to the sale, quoting: WHEREAS, the Government and Ulbricht agree that, due to the volatile market for bitcoins, the Computer Hardware Bitcoins risk losing value during the pendency of the forfeiture proceedings; WHEREAS, the Government and Ulbricht agree that the Computer Hardware Bitcoins are to be liquidated or sold by the Government before the conclusion of the forfeiture proceedings, with the net proceeds of the sale to be held as substitute res pending further order of this Court;

Shake the weaklings out.
For 11 months now and still there are the same amount of weaklings left. Could it be that "shaking out the weak hands" simply is nonsense?

If you were selling your house for 500k & the housing market went down a bit would you panic & sell for less or delay the sale & wait for the market to pick up?
This question is to the weak hands in the BTC game?
If shaking out the weak hands was a thing there would be no weak hands left by now.

It took 2-3 hours to reach the bottom in the SR1 bust crash when he got arrested and we are at about 2 hours.
The bounce will happen in the next hour IMHO.

You mean you don't know who Ross Ulbricht is and somehow you're a Senior member in Bitcointalk? Strange.
