Another reason the player can do this to increase the offer so before the official offer came he could speculate this method is usually done by clubs, agents and players

Well if i would have the chance to play another season for Real Madrid, then i would probably also do the same as Benzema and stay there for another year. He still showed good performances even though he is already 35 years old, so why should he not be able to play at the highest level with 36 years. He is a central striker so he was never really running that much and for a striker attributes like intuition and timing are just as important as quickness and Benzema has a lot of that. He can still join Al Ittihad after the end of the next season. Then he is 36 and can still go for the huge salary for at least 2 more seasons.

But do you think that an offer with a few hundred million is now going to run away from him? I think that was his main consideration when he was about to make his decision. He has his huge opportunity to increase his wealth, but he also knows that the Saudi clubs will offer him a contract quite the same way they offered him a contract this year. I think if I were him I would also try to stay another year.
