Is there any pool that's working properly?

Some don't work at all, some stop paying after some time, some pay random amounts (like 8 x 3.0192CHNCoin in a row?!?!).

All scammers, or beta testing?

p2pool.chnco.in is working.

The random amounts are how much you earned from that block.

I can vouch as well... I stopped getting payouts from passion's pool for some reason, so I switched and I'm up to 86.52 coins for the last 20 minutes.

Substitute 'terracoin' for 'chncoin' and you're sorted.

Just remember the scrypt parameter!

Using this pool right now. Seems to work fine, and I'm getting less stale shares than with Blastbob's pool. Could be because I'm in The Netherlands....

What I would love to see next is a stratum pool

Bobs is stratum if you ask my miner.

Switched back to p2pool.chnco.in because that Frensh pool wasn't paying out anything even though many shares were excepted. guess they were orphans.

I'm using GUIminer-scrypt and after reading your post I selected "yes" in the stratum dropdown....and I'm still connecting.  Didn't change ports though. I wonder if it improves anything.

If blocks are being found quickly, you need your client to be updated faster that a new block was found so it stops working on useless shares (stales). Can do that setting other pools in rotation for their longpoll data. Might try something like --expiry 5. Or 1. It causes a lot of network traffic to a pool, but if you are solo mining no harm. This way your client will check your local solo server for any new changes quicker than the 120 second default.
