Well this is nothing new as criminals will evolve together with the kind of tools that facilitates their behavior. Having said that this is not true that bitcoin increases the criminal activity in any given area. As they say cash is still the best way to launder money and to hide criminal activity. The media and Europol or every other police division will say only bad things about bitcoin, it is standard.
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

It's true that bitcoin doesn't support criminal's activity thus there is no reason for them to blame bitcoin's currency for doing such criminal activities online as we can see that fiat money is still the best currency to launder money. We can not stop criminal but we can lesseb them and I think we should not focus on the currency for seeking he reason of the increase in the percentage of crimes.

Criminality is there even when bitcoin is not innovated. Bitcoin has made the criminal activities to take place in a simple manner. Even in the recent wannacry ransomware bitcoin is demanded as ransom. Anonymous functioning is the one which makes it more popular among the darkweb as well the common people who are hard users of bitcoin.

Some week before, I have heard the news from the New york time says Cyber attack on financial instituation and demanding 300$ equals in bitcoin. I think this is this is happened because of the people who troll or against bitcoin. They are do these kind of things to troll down the bitcoin. There is no official release with the proper evidences from anyone about bitcoin is being used by illegal activities.

Criminals and hackers would love crypto, especially Monero for its anonymous in nature,

I think bitcoin can be traceable to an extent unless its done on bitmixer

I really don't know about criminality of bitcoin wise. It is not fault of bitcoin, if bad people use bitcoin, than also see that point that good people also use the bitcoin. Bitcoin is a online currency, everyone could use it, and about the crime now criminality is here in all over the world, but not every criminal use the bitcoin.

That is right, the reason bitcoin wil never be banned even if it is used by a criminal, is because it is a digital currency and it can be used by everyone we can't control anyone who are using these digital currency and who is abusing them. Even if small number of criminal abuse bitcoin, most of it's users are using it for good.

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2016/01/23/bitcoin-playing-an-increased-role-in-crime-europol-says/

Would you believe that the existence of bitcoin has increased the number of criminality in  some countries in the world. This is the issue that was being thrown by the EuroPol and the UK Metropolitan Police. According to them bitcoin has played a huge role on the increasing criminality in their area. They added that a huge number of cybercriminals were using bitcoins in their activities.

This just shows that as bitcoin develops both advantages and disadvantages will tag along.
All things have a good side and a bad side always exist in parallel with each other, bitcoin too.Once bitcoin value is increasing and economic potential is growing, then the criminal network is also increasingly sophisticated and complex. It's like a natural law  Smiley

Bitcoin has high security, so a bad guy can easily use it without being detected. So people easily take advantage of it for evil, but it does not increase crime.

They are not saying that there is more crime because of bitcoin but criminals are increasingly using bitcoin and that´s why the cryptocoin plays an increasing role. Are two different things. Anyway there were already crimes before bitcoin and criminals received payments with dollars or euros and were not caught.

Yes I agree, as technology advances so do the criminals
they will utilise and exploit and technology. . . and crime fighting will also advance too!

I would have assumed given the nature of crypto currency
that if you are involved in crime you would not be restricted to
operating on a local level instead the world is your target.

Criminals operating at a level level would prefer cash I would have thought

We need to clearly distinguish the boundary between these two issues, it can affect the reputation of bitcoin, it is like an accusation for bitcoin, this is not good, bitcoin completely clean, It is easily exploited by criminals.

I wouldn't say that Bitcoin itself have increased criminal activities but it made it esaier in some way. Because of the great deal of anonimity Bitcoin is appropriate for paying for illegal goods and services, also for money laundering so many criminals take this advantage. Criminals are also implementing new technologies, we have to be aware of this.

Yeah the hell it will become bitcoin's fault.
It is the people who are doing bad sh1t using this currency as a means of payment.
If it cant be stopped then maybe it should be cleared out that bitcoin is also a currency and just like fiat can be a tool for any payment or trade that will happen.

Bitcoin is an Double edged sword , you can either use for good or criminal activity , because bitcoin is anonymous its very hard for the governing bodies to control the criminal activities with bitcoin

i agree with you !!! depends on how you use bitcoin correctly and Dont abuse it....  Wink

Correctly said it is upto the users of bitcoin to use bitcoin in which way and about talking about criminality of bitcoin then even before bitcoin existed this type of hacking and asking ransom in fiat currency was common so we should not blame bitcoin for this fault but we have to blame the users who have used bitcoin for this illegal activity

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2016/01/23/bitcoin-playing-an-increased-role-in-crime-europol-says/

European countries need to invent reasons to force europeans to use the pound/euro instead of crypto.

This is the best they can come up with.

If they cared about "reducing criminality", they might do a better job vetting illegal immigrants?

This isn't about crime. Its about money & forcing people to use flawed centralized banking, financial and monetary programs.

In my country the criminality is zero percent with bitcoin as in my country the criminals are not able to regulate bitcoin as they are not educated and other users of bitcoin are educated people and they are using bitcoin for their better future and for their better country future.
