https://www.deepdotweb.com/2016/01/23/bitcoin-playing-an-increased-role-in-crime-europol-says/

Would you believe that the existence of bitcoin has increased the number of criminality in  some countries in the world. This is the issue that was being thrown by the EuroPol and the UK Metropolitan Police. According to them bitcoin has played a huge role on the increasing criminality in their area. They added that a huge number of cybercriminals were using bitcoins in their activities.

This just shows that as bitcoin develops both advantages and disadvantages will tag along.
Actually, this is in a way, understandable. Nothing unbelievable, criminals obviously don't wanna get caught, and bitcoin is the decentralized currency for all of their needs, it is anonymous, secure, and the government can't tap in or track transactions, it is totally upto the person to decide what he uses it for. And this was definitely upheld in practicality by Silkroad and other such websites that have been taken down since, but new site of this kind are emerging everyday.

Internet too is notoriously anonymous, Imagine if countries had banned it in its early days for fear that it may increase crime. Ofcourse it ended up increasing crimes and as well helped solve so many societal problems such as slow banking, millions of jobs created, online shopping, online verifications,... Cryptocurrency like every other things has its advantages & disadvantages but I bet its advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

This is a good answer, kudos.

I guess it shall always come down to the balance between pros and cons.

Be good, do good, make better.

although being completely anonymous make bitcoin prone to being used in criminal activities like cyber scam however i can not completely agree with them that the existence of Bitcoin has increase crime. cyber crime has been in existence even before BTC is recognised world wide and the technology advancement high crime rate will also increase. this government did the same thing to Liberty Reserve in 2012 as they completely shutdown the operation and functionality of then famous ecurrency.

Criminality and bitcoin are not directly related to each other. Bitcoin cannot even cause criminality to increase. Criminality is beyond the control of bitcoin. Why do we have to link the two?

Bitcoin has become the currency of choice for cybercriminals. Its distinctive characteristics of decentralisation and pseudo-anonymity are also attractive to criminal actors in general, and yet Bitcoin has been assessed as representing only a low money laundering risk. In many respects, cryptocurrencies are still viewed as an unfamiliar, marginal phenomenon restricted to the purview of specialists. Bitcoin constitutes a substantial danger in terms of criminal enterprise; and to promote the case for greater awareness among criminal justice professionals and law enforcement officers in particular.

Bitcoin is arguably a novelty that's why law enforcement against crime involving bitcoin has not received much attention. So, the criminals can still explore it. But I'm sure, sooner or later, as the number of crimes involving bitcoin increases, of course lawmakers will take action by applying new laws to ensnare the criminals.

the history of bitcoin was it started in the deepweb, they used it for transactions, no doubt criminals were smart, but i think now that bitcoin is of that much value, rather than using it for bad, they might change their mine, it just like the gold rush, people tend to do thinhs against the law just to get hold of the gold, but in the long run, people changed their ways knowing that the gold they owned is that precious, giving them a sensw of security.

If there’s a greed on money there’s criminality that can happen. It is present everywhere because of the greed of the people for money.  They are not contented on the money they have or they want an easy money but don’t want to work hard to earn it. Bitcoin can be earned by working hard but if you have a higher rank it can be much easier than the beginners but criminality still exist on this because of their greed.

Many public mistakes about the use of Bitcoin by criminals, but the thought is wrong thinking. This thought is caused by the many people who think that Bitcoin is anonymous, when in fact Bitcoin is very contrary to it - all transactions Bitcoin transparent and everyone in the world can see the ongoing Bitcoin transactions. People may not be able to connect a particular individual identity to a Bitcoin transaction directly (this is why sometimes Bitcoin is also called pseudo anonymous), but if they find it, then they can see all the transactions you have done on the Bitcoin network. This is why Bitcoin is the wrong way if you use it for things that are not right.

Unfortunately, it's true that criminals likes bitcoin and used it for criminal purpose.
Recently, I heard TV report in my country that police found and caught drug dealers.
They bought drugs in the dark web and paid with bitcoin.
Because of such reports, people can get very negative image about bitcoin.

The internet and Bitcoin are just devices that 'bad guys' and 'good people' can use to be filled with more people in the 'good people' category.

It's simple sir. The growing of technology means growing on criminality. The more resource we have to make our life better, the more resource we have to hurt each other and do bad things. Everything has a bad side and a good side, including technology and Bitcoin.

Bitcoin will make the use of cash decrease and robbery decrease. But Bitcoin also make drug dealers and gun dealers is easy to access and their transaction it's hard to track. Bitcoin will make hitman and human trafficking more dangerous and give more power.

Bitcoin, internet, computer, they are technology.

I think this is a form of bash or putting the BTC down to its level, precisely the bank entrepreneurs collaboration. Although its up to them how to judge and generally put malicious issues to the stable cryptocurrency.

Criminality is one of the disadvantage of the bitcoin. They said bitcoin is using in the dark web or in the deep web to exchange in some rape, murdering, selling organs and many more. This is the reason why many country doesn't like to accept the bitcoin.

Actually by using Bitcoin then some crime can be reduced, cash will continue to be the preferred medium for criminal activity as it is more difficult to trace. All Bitcoin transactions are recorded and publicly viewable. Only the identity of transactions that can not be seen but still can be obtained with little effort.

Bitcoin is a very promising form of investment. This is what makes criminals commit criminals dibitcoin, some very great features in bitcoin is certainly very profitable for everyone. And this does not rule out the perpetrators of criminals will take advantage of existing features in bitcoin to make transactions for crimes they committed. The many forms of criminalization of the existence of bitcoin certainly must diwaspadi by bitcoin users, lest we lose the actions of criminals who can harm us.

I believe in this. Bitcoin, even though has good intentions, are being used in undergroud transactions. As far as I know, it is used in the dark web to purchase illegal stuffs and pay for some services. I will not elaborate it and let you realize what I mean. But this is a serious problem if not prevented and impose the right usage of bitcoin. I think bitcoin is being used in illegal transaction simply because it cant be tracked who the person pays and orders the stuff. I think it maybe solved in the near future but as for now, all we can do iis to just trust the dev team to resolve this issue.

Bitcoin is freely used by criminality.  Examplen- huckers ask rewards in bitcoin, drugs  you can buy in bitcoin.  In common bitcoin like a fire for society - can make your dish and can destroy your house. It depends how do you use it)))
