No worries, it will only become a requirement either never, or some time after Bitcoin Core supports it in a new version.
encouraging people to use SegWit is good but using it should always be optional. it was opt-in after all. True, but is there any reason not to use it? Not really, given that nested addresses are backwards compatible, and offer almost the same benefits as bech32. Either way, it probably won't become an requirement. Ok. I'll give Segwit a whirl too. This is my new address - 37d1ZQVYmxVSrweXcyioyPgxNv1cZDrbgq
I can't be arsed to sign the old one so you'll have to assume I haven't been hijacked. And it's my problem anyway.

Don't see any red flags, so address updated. Thanks for making the switch!

Sure, signing with the old address is optional, especially if your account is not in the seclog (and it isn't), but it's fun. Gives your post that little bit of a personal touch. That's why I'll choose the more troublesome way of switching to a segwit address: 3F981FK189zWFA9fB2oMLs7dVtcGeFJBj3 1MG7qGaYpDBLuBKLiSbHB72sK4Cd8z5H7a H3cCfPW1FJPjIpBKJOiAnAQRRZFfhqM6e4ZqM9JCxd7ZZMrHGNz6rG3jao5ECcGBoShdw/ikoJPzZjN10BnEsjs= darkangel11 switching address from 1MG7qGaYpDBLuBKLiSbHB72sK4Cd8z5H7a to 3F981FK189zWFA9fB2oMLs7dVtcGeFJBj3

I have updated Electrum, and have directly generated myself a Segwit address to be part of the Segwit squad. bc1qmstu82u22rhf5carza9052skyr8ar83c4f4g3e It's a shame that barely any service has adopted Segwit yet. Not even the more popular block explorers seem to allow me to look for my address.

Not really, given that nested addresses are backwards compatible, and offer almost the same benefits as bech32. Either way, it probably won't become an requirement. I disagree with that. You should slowly force adoption for the sake of the network. This campaign is optional for people, Segwit doesn't have to be. For example, today is the last day that I allow legacy addresses. It's a shame that barely any service has adopted Segwit yet.
Encapsulated Segwit support != bech32 support. Even Core does not have many of the features for bech32 (e.g. sign/verify message) and most of the software is directly using it or based on it.

Not even the more popular block explorers seem to allow me to look for my address. I am new to segwit and became confused today about if the address should or shouldn't show up, it turns it was just block explorers not being up to date with things, but the good news is I found out you can use btc.com to look for bech32 addresses, I tried my address and it shows up so it seems to be working fine?

I am not entirely certain on this, but if you put in the legacy version of a segwit address (changing a "bc1" or "3" at the beginning to a "1"). As old daemon wallet versions are supposed to be able to handle transactions ONCE THEY ARE CONFIRMED. Though it would depend on the architecture of the block explorer and may return a " can't decode output/input/transaction error"

Any free spots this week? been trying to get in for ages.
Talk to head of the family a.k.a don DarkStar_leone, I've seen former shitposters joining here suddenly without any prior begging. I'm hiring more beggars in bounty section, I'd pay 5000 people to wear a signature and would only pay them $5000 in total for 3 months. Don, I'll come begging for a half spot here when the wet trout is dried up completely a.k.a current campaign, this one has a deep ocean trout, it could stay wet for a long time.

As we haven't had a spot open recently, I will tentatively open a spot. I may not accept anyone if I feel that no one has excellent post quality, as this is primary targeted towards those people. A SegWit address will be required for this spot. (mostly as a quick and easy way to filter out those who don't care about the tech behind Bitcoin, and are just here to spam) There is no requirement to change your signature to apply.wanted to ask if anyone here has a good experience with greenbits android wallet , it's the only android wallet supporting segwit that I found
