It looks like a good idea. And it's not neccessary to buy big amount of bitcoins. Even 1 bitcoin may be enough if bitcoin price continue to rise in long term. When your children turns 18, you will give bitcoins to your children. He/she may use it to pay for studies, rent a flat. Maybe after 18 years it will be possible to buy flat with these saved bitcoins, who knows.
But you will have to find save place to keep your bitcoins for such long period and not loose your wallet information.
You think 1 btc will actually be enough for 18 year old in the future. If you meant that it can help a bit then i with you but for all the things it's impossible, my children school they do everything accept studies then want us to buy some tablet for 500$ as it is water resistant and god knows all useless features for spoiling my kids |

Yes, I am already into plans of having bitcoins as my retirement account and saving it for my grand children like that. But, recent speculations are making me to have second thoughts about my plans as in next 5 to 10 years itself bitcoin might have value more than millions. In that case I do not need to wait till my retirements to enjoy my bitcoins and if I save some portions of my bitcoins for my child and grand-child then definitely that would make them multimillionaires for sure. |

I have an alternative for that how about you save your Bitcoins for yourself in order to profit from it more. The profit you will be earning with Bitcoin can be use to create your own Business, because if you think about it your kids will be needing that money 10-20 years from now which we really don't know if Bitcoin will still grow or if Bitcoin will even exist in their generation. So its better to invest now rather than invest it for your kids.

It is nice to read that some parents out here are doing the idea proposed on the OP. Though not a new idea but an eye opener for some parents that haven't thought about it yet. It is always nice to prepare for the future and the future of our kids but caution must be always be observed. We cannot guarantee anything because many things may come out of hand.

Yes, I am already into plans of having bitcoins as my retirement account and saving it for my grand children like that. So far I have 0.27 BTC in my son's wallet.  I placed $3500 in his 529 fund in 2008 and now it is only closed to $4500. I should have bought bitcoin instead. |

I like this idea, saving bitcoin for my child is a good thing to do. Because I beleive bitcoin price will continuously increasing. Though we cannot predict the price movement in the long run. Still If I buy little by little of amount of btc and I will hold it, for sure in the long term it is profitable.

To all parents and soon to be parents out there, Plan for your children or future children by saving Bitcoin for them. Buying them bit by bit would be a great investment for the future of your kids. I am saying that you must have a new wallet for your kids so that when they come at the right age, you can give them that wallet and imagine how bright their future will be. You can hold bitcoin for their education, life plans, or whatever you think of. I believe that if you start storing bitcoin for them now, a bright future is ahead of them  This is something which shows the evolution of the world. Someone argued back in 80-90s, how the world would look like when hit by technology? Will there be any place for feelings and emotions? Here we have answer. Technology is changing, not humans. Our ways are changing, not ethics. Yes, its time to shift to bitcoins as a mean of savings for our family. It is all good idea. |

Excellent idea bro. Am definitely doing this for my 2 to 4 future kids.
Wonder if there is any wallet with option to lockup ones Bitcoin for a long time to be released on a specific date... in contract like manner. Would be grateful if anyone gives a good suggestions.

Good idea. Worth to try. But not with great investment, most probably would buy coin,two,three and that`s it. When we are talking about children I like to to be secure and always trying to do the best for them. Bitcoin price can go sky high but can also drop down, it`s not stable. so I would decide for some other saving for kids.

indeed probably in the future the price of bitcoin will be worth more than $100k or more and also we will see plenty schools or college accept bitcoin however this is actually good idea because the benefit from holding bitcoin for long term bitcoin is pretty much especially for the price it self and maybe bitcoin able to use to finance the education of our childrens

I think buying a hardware wallet and saving it in will be a good idea. i'll buy one and save few coins in it and when my kid is 18 years old he/she will get that hardware wallet. It's good someone to make dreams but it's not sure that will be reality. Especially when we know the volatility of bitcoin. Moreover after a decade and more who really can predict the future of cryptocurrencies? That is why I do not fully share the optimism of the OP. If he has enough money maybe he should look at some other investment proposals such as the purchase of land, insurance contract etc.

What happens if bitcoin breaks down? We do not have any evidence to confirm its existence in the future. Although bitcoin is growing vigorously, the future is unpredictable. Our children will use a different currency smarter. |
