Bitcoin is the grandaddy to the entire digital currency network. So however high digital currency growth happens the credit belongs to bitcoin. Bitcoin due to the increasing and decreasing price might go down in the value but this will always serve as number one.

I think it will take time until the end of 2018 or it could be more but it seems this might be hard for this year 2017.
With the turmoil surrounding the potential separation of BTC, it may soon happen. We will always appreciate bitcoin because many people have started it all, all the currencies involved in bitcoin will be getting stronger because of its bitcoin like this.

I don't agree upto some extend because not many people knows about ETH and not many people have it. And I guess that no other coin could ever beat bitcoin in terms of popularity because whenever people come to know about cryptocurrency then first they try bitcoin and later on other coins so majority of the cryptocurrency user have bitcoin at least and and thus bitcoin have more market potential then any other coin and bitcoin was the after and it will stay in its position forever this is my prediction.

I too think its only a bubble and people are too excited about the pump in ETH. In real ETH will not be crossing BTC in near future. We may not know the outcome of Segwit integration but BTC is the mother of crypto currencies and it will hold its place.

Nakamoto may die in the latter future and Vitalyk is still young so his mind can still upgrade and etheruem might reach some things that the btc hasnt done yet. Eth for me could become the number 1 but for me btc is still the 1st thing that made eth famous. Btc has already adapted to many countries and eth still has a long way to go.

Considering that utility and the fundamentals are really lagging behind, we might not be able to see bitcoin hanging off for too long in the number one spot. It can be replaced soon but definitely that's not going to be ETH. In price, yes, but in usage? I think not. Normal people don't need smart contracts that much. All they need to have is money to pay for what they want when they want it, bitcoin and litecoin fits the job fairly well. With ETH? Not so much.

I strongly agree with you , Eth can only beat bitcoin in price but I think it is in the future. Normal people dont need smart contracts but now many project are adapting smart contracts. Bitcoin came first so it adapted well in the past. But for me ETH has a great future that can be useful for us all user of cryptocurrency.

Maybe it will happen to bitcoin, it's all not necessarily the number one in a very long time but bitcoin ever put itself as number one. If the bitcoin drops its price it will go down for a while because of the value, the longer bitcoin becomes competence and based on this it is always bitcoin standing first it in fact.

I think even that hyping eth value bitcoin still on the top on crypto currency. All of us are the witness of the great progress of bitcoin also bitcoin has already proved that would be a top on the crypto because we can do lot of things using it.

That might be true. But I do not believe Ethereum will be able to hold their gains for long. Sooner or later the price has to go down simply because that is what markets do.
So always remind yourself not to get lost in the mania and try to stay objective. In a market like this, it is easy to think that the good days will never end.
I also agree. Bitcoin is the number one or not depends a lot on the market. The fate of bitcoin is unknown in the future. But now the bitcoin is on the rise and will it stay in the spotlight? Young people have now come to bitcoin as to a friend.

Ethereum did have a good spike but I don't see it taking bitcoin place, even if the value exceed bitcoin (which is highly unlikely), the overall media and public interest would be focused around bitcoin as the main and the original cryptocurrency.

Ethereum is centralized and controlled by one person. So, I don't trust it. Bitcoin is still and will be #1.

I don't think so AND I don't believe the current campaign of both ETH and Monero:
ETH being high priced is nice, but it doesn't mean they are the way to go, the system although innovative, had already several flaws and issues ending with another version of Ethereum and is not something I'm ready to trust as the #1 Monero is actually more promising since it has a market (the darkweb) but bitcoin would still be the leader even with monero succeeding in gaining more popularity and value.

I believe this too. I speculate that August 1 is going to see a huge price fall. Bitcoin market cap is definitely going to decrease. Ethereum is rising exponentially. I also believe that August 1 will result in a mass migration of BTC users to Ethereum, like me. I can't say for sure. But it is becoming more likely every day.
nah. we will have a much clearer idea of what'll happen on that day long before it happens. it's not as if the mystery will continue until midnight on july 31st. people will take positions and publicise them. and if you're not sure about having money in, then sell for dollars. I somewhat agree with the previous poster We will likely see an insane wave of speculations rising as we go nearer the Bitcoin judgment day as well as feel a toxic mix of blunt lies, outright demagogy and half truths being poured on us till the hour X (and likely after that hour too). The SEC decision on the Winklevii's ETF was a minor event in "the grand scheme of things", and the decision itself was well anticipated, but we still saw the price manipulated heavily until the very moment it was made public. In other words, the community will be left suspended up to the very climax like in a good thriller

It is near actually and we will see if whether users would decide to leave Bitcoin that will result to a huge price fall or not. It is not a question of loyalty of the users but rather trust. Does the users have enough trust in Bitcoin or not? That is the right question that we are waiting to be answered soon.

Absolutely agree, I think people are just over hyping ethereum and I don't see why I will leave my Bitcoin and move them into ethereum because it's also likely to have the same issues with high transaction fees if it gets big enough so why would I want to change? Bitcoin is progressing and I'm psyched up that there will be challenges along the way, it won't go all well too smooth.

It's too much already I guess. It's all about a lot of good news that are coming out and that makes the price of ethereum high. But it's not enough that it will replace or remove bitcoin at it's number one place. Well see some upgrades and fixing about the problems in bitcoin transactions and that will make the people stay with it.

Young people have now come to bitcoin as to a friend. Like you said it will depend on how the market moves, the price or value of bitcoin on the current time with its fluctuations considered, and number of patronizer using bitcoins. There are many things to be considered just to maintain the standing on number one but being at the top is not absolute. Time will come some digital currency will takes the first place though it is a probability.
