Who is going to take the number 1?

Ethereum is falling every hour with no sign of recovery.

Ripple doesn't recover too, and in the future many ripples will be released of their lockdown and probably be dumped.

Litecoin isn't even close to really threat Bitcoin.

While it is true that there is a possibility that bitcoin may be displaced by a stronger currency at some point, that possibility should not be reduced to the current options. It is true that ethereum at this moment seems to have some potential to break the hegemony of bitcoin, but we must not close the door to the great technological developments that the future has to us. I believe that the nascent quantum computing has amazing and advanced things to offer, and perhaps in twenty years the blockchain will be remembered as a primitive and rudimentary technology just for nostalgic and old bitcoiners.

Well, so many new coins for now, and so many have potentials, like eth and bytball. But, I think they are still pretty far away with bitcoin prices for now. I'm sure bitcoin will retain its position as the number 1 currency on the internet.
a lot of other currencies are also came into being and people are using it on huge scale but still the possibility of either being the number 1 does not exist, but still some people are very much worried about it's coming values but I am very sure that none of new currencies can ever beat Bitcoin even I think at least still coming next 5 years bitcoin will remain number 1  and always will be remain super currency as compared to other cryptocurrency.
yes that is right that there are a lot of other altcoin, and most of them have good potential to increase, and still there is also the possibility that any other currency can take its place but I think bitcoin is the founder of all other currencies, and hope that it will continue it as number once currenc of the world , because the popularity of bitcoin is increasing too much. people are taking interst in bitcoin which is in fact making bitcoin more stronger and reliable.

Perhaps with intense competition the value of altcoin competing so that altcoin's value wants to exceed the bitcoin and wants to shift the position of bitcoin which has been the No. 1 coin ever but that will not be easy because altcoin values change very quickly in value compared to bitcoin.

We are not yet sure about that. Even the answer maybe yes, that only simply means that in the market industry everyone can be able to improve theirselves so also in the currency. You can say that bitcoin may not be number one for long because of the past dump and the low price of its currency. But still we can't assure that because currency is still changing continuously. Maybe in no time, bitcoin will reach its highest peak that will put it to number one but other currency can do it also. Anyone can be open for improement. Market price is not consistent

Such saying that the "only constant thing in life is change"  . We can't predict whether btc will not be number one since there are lot of alts out yet still none can compriamise the features of btc , though I eth might be next yet its value now is decreasing suddenly.

Well i do agree but it will be  remembered a foundation for cryptocurrencies. Even if it would reduce its status, the impact it made to other currencies is major contribution for the member of crypto currency. Time will come that there would be an altcoin that would surpass it and even that coin could be surpassed in time. So what matters the most is the impact it gives.

Why not???
I don't think so, Bitcoin is becoming a profitable sector of investment and saving, people are going to be involved in this platform nowadays, day by day Bitcoin is getting more acceptable and credible, so it is just a matter of time to become number one for long..so keep calm and use Bitcoin..

Exactly! It doesn't mean that if another crypto-currency is becoming popular, bitcoin will fall already. Always remember that as time passes by, bitcoin's popularity is also increasing slowly but surely. Also, the value of bitcoin is steadily increasing at the moment and does not show any signs of decreasing or whatsoever. For as long as the conversion of btc to money is high, it will unlikely to fall apart in the near future.

Do I think BTC is going to be replaced? Sure. Is it going to be by ETH? No.

ETH is a crypto currency that is used to create smart contracts and to create tokens. Doing this requires paying a "gas tax." ETH also has an unlimited coin supply. Yes coins get used up and deleted, but new ones are still going to be created every day.

ETH is a type of digital oil, if you will. It gets used up and recreated. It's not meant for standard transactions or as a reserve crypto. Can it serve that purpose? Sure, but not as well as some alternatives such as XMR or LTC.

I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.
Bitcoin is a master piece of creation.Till now, there is no such altcoin which could replace bitcoin.Even though, bitcoin has some issues like high transaction fee, still it is trusted and bought by investors all over the world.Even it has been legalized in some countries. We could not even expect an altcoin to be legalized in any country.

Wow!....The 24 hr volumes are almost identical.  I never would have thought that they'd be this close so soon.

Litecoin is surely but slowly gaining traction

Indeed, if Bitcoin comes out unscathed from the dire quagmire it got into with all these quarrels, undercover struggles, agreements and negotiations behind closed doors regarding its future, Litecoin will likely remain where it is, basically going back to being just a Bitcoin copycat. But if Bitcoin doesn't make it and fails badly, Litecoin is likely going to take its place since "the throne is never empty". In fact, it could already be doing just that, and to see if it is really so, we need Bitcoin to go down substantially (like 300-400 dollars). If Litecoin retains its value and its price doesn't go down together with Bitcoin's (or even rises), that would mean exactly that, i.e. people changing horses

BTC is the virtual equivalent of USD. The reason is BTC and altcoins. Currently 1 BTC costs 2500 USD, while ETH is only 354 USD. I do not believe that Etherum will be a rival for BTC.

The price of the cryptocurrency doesn't matter that much because it doesn't take into account the number of coins available.  I'd compare based on market cap.  Right now Bitcoin and Ethereum have market caps of $42 billion and $34 billion USD respectively.  Ethereum is at 81% and it has been increasing steadily for the past few months.

Well, it is now cryptocurrency has a lot of prices are very good and experienced growth that may not increase your rank but has always competed on price. And now the ethereum does have great opportunities in growth or it could just be a digital currency that will shift the ranking bitcoin. Because right now it's still has a big problem bitcoin therein, which makes its growth may be impaired

There is difference between real volume and hyped volume. Ethereum volume is completely a hyped volume because of the ICOs that are keep coming that is related or smart contract with ethereum so that is the only thing that i know that makes the volume of ethereum high but if you want some real deal then you should just focus in bitcoin because it is the best option for long term.

That possibility exists but we do not know when. Which is sure if the bitcoin demand higher than other coins then bitcoin prices will still the number one.

Theoretically this is possible, but bitcoin has already been formally adopted in some countries and is quite strong. He can go to second place for a while, but then he will take the first again.

I prefer bitcoin. Perhaps such a dramatic increase in Ethereum is associated with the expectation of people to get rich as it was with bitcoin. In any case, bitcoin is more popular and far more widespread. For me he will always be number one among all crypto. I'll be rich when bitcoin wins, and users of other crypto will switch to bitcoin.

No it won't happen till 2019 as people are trusting bitcoin more than ethereum and we can clearly see. In past ethereum was almost 5 billion less than bitcoin but recent drops brought ethereum back to 31 billion and bitcoin is again increasing to 44.2 billion and thisnclearly shows when ethereum market cap fell bitcoin increased so all this sudden capturing of bitcoin market cap by ethereum was just a way the whales wanted to make profit but sadly the party is over
