Bitcoin may not be number one for long

in my opinion Bitcoin will hold its place as number one crypto. Soon there will be a new coin that will exist which have strong market and strong back-up in industry that will take the place of ethereum, before this year will end ethereum will be at the third place or even at the forth place. But still bitcoin will be place on the top of every crypto even the split will happen on November, it will be reducing its transaction fees.

No it won't be replaced a by a more sophisticated crypto currency. Bitcoin is the origin of all crypto's and how come it can be replaced by just a new crypto. Well, in fact Bitcoin is the progenitor of all crypto-currencies, and today it is almost the only of its kind in the price category. I do not think that any currency can beat the maximum Record of the price for Bitcoin.

I have not invested in crypto currency yet. Late to the party. I'm considering it.

I'm wondering about the inherent value. I get that it's better than fiat currency in so many ways. Best is the peer-to-peer over-coming the lack of trust thing, and for no fee. It's good currency. I get that. I agree. My question is why any one currency over another. So I thought this thread was the best place for this.

Bitcoin is the established king. But what is to stop someone from copying it? No, really copying it. As I understand it, all the altcoins are different in some way, usually trying to improve or be better than the other altcoins. But, why not make an exact copy of Bitcoin? Why not 500 copies of Bitcoin? Why not 500 copies of Ethereum, Neo, vert, etc.?

tldr: I accept that cryptocurrency is a valuable thing, but I don't see how it holds its value against other cryptocurrencies. What am I missing?

After three months since opening this thread, it's still bitcoin and I believe after a year it will still bitcoin, the gap is close but the core team and the whole community still support bitcoin and I think chinese ban on icos will have an impact on ethereum.

I agree with the initial post. Ethereum might pass BTC with big media coverage in the future; however, in the long run BTC will be always first. Satoshi Nakamoto's invention of the blockchain is just brilliant.

The reason is pretty straightforward

Bitcoin has an advantage of being the first mover. But it would have lost it long ago if it weren't able to show consistent profits. Everyone should understand that the total majority of people involved in Bitcoin are there for extracting profits exclusively. It may look good and it may look bad, but it is due to these people that we so high prices now. In this way, they stay with Bitcoin simply because it satisfies their demands, i.e. offers sufficient profits. But it works in reverse as well. If Bitcoin ceases to produce profits over long terms, people will quickly forget about it and switch to something else

Bitcoin will be number one, and others altcoins will follow, it is very hard to predict which altcoin will be number two or three, I think ETH and Monero can have second and third position. Right now Monero is not so popular all around, but it can be much more popular.

While seeing this thread i am laughing because on june OP said bitcoin will not be number one and comparing with Ethereum Here people always forget bitcoin and ethereum are two different functionality or purpose using blockchain technology . Bitcoin is undefeated King and will be because of its limited supply and no one owns this . But Ethereum owns by organisation and huge supply.

I think bitcon will continue to become number one crypto  curency in the future. It has become more popular which resulted to the demand to increase. Many country as well as establishment also starting to adopt bitcoin which means the market for bitcoin will grow more in the coming years.

More specifically, that Bitcoin as well as Ethereum had been created for different goals and for achieving different ends. Bitcoin was conceived as a means of payment (read, a full-fledged currency), while Ethereum as a platform for smart contracts. But we should face the reality and admit that both Bitcoin and Ethereum alike are now mostly used for speculation purposes, though the latter seems to be even more speculative since it is used for speculation directly (as Ethereum tokens) and for speculating with project tokens built using this platform

Everything is possible that ethereum will become an alternative and a substitute, on one bitcoin the world can not sit. You always have to look for alternatives. Especially bitcoin is not so stable. but maybe it's just a PR move, to attract more participants.
