I'd just warn people NOT to install macports and homebrew on the same machine unless you really know what you're doing or you can mess up your system

Yes..very true! something I should of added and will be sure to going forward.

What does the BFG Miner output look like on 10.8?
unfortunately I get no output/stats with bfgminer window in MacMiner on 10.8. I hit start and it just does nothing...or did you mean the output from bfgminer in terminal?

The MacMiner window (poclbm) doesn't support scrypt, or p2pool for that matter. on 10.7 use -T --scrypt
So in the new 1.02 update for 10.8 does any of it support scrypt? honestly though won't be using 10.8 to mine LTC anyway but just happy to help test it out for you. 10.7 OSX is my main mining system Wink

Huh, if you're not getting any output from bfgminer window in MacMiner for 10.8 1.1 can you please run it in the Terminal at /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin/bfgminer and give me the output of that? I've had a couple of reports of problems with 1.1 but haven't heard enough to put my finger on the problem yet…

in 10.7 just cpu miner window does --scrypt till the next update whereas in the 10.8 version cpu window and bfg miner window support it.

Using Windows what's the best software to run the asic USB units in?

Asking that question in a thread about a program for mining on Macs called MacMiner seems a peculiar leap of logic and I have no idea…

But it's probably cgminer or bfgminer

Just had a chance to test this again on 10.8 with the newest 1.1.1 update. BFgminer still does not start and when ran in terminal as suggested I get this:

Code:
Need to specify at least one pool server.
Input server details.
URL:
mining.usa.la.hypernova.pw:9332
Username:
worker.1
Password:
xxxxxxx
Segmentation fault: 11

CPUminer for scrypt seems to be working properly and poclbm Miner works well with BTC but no LTC as expected.

Cool, newer systems mine faster anyway Wink but yes, 1.1.1 for 10.7 is up now too. Couple of little GUI bugs but I'm pretty wiped out right now so 1.1.2 will follow relatively soon. Probably around the time bfgminer has cpu mining issues fixed properly.

Thanks for checking that for me, can you tell me what specific mac and gpu you have? It looks like a known error with running on the CPU but it shouldn't try to mine on the CPU if you have a capable GPU… maybe you could try running with --disable-cpu and seeing if it says 'no devices'? I'm not sure whether --disable-cpu does anything as it's --enable-cpu that's documented but i think they go both ways…

Is this thing fully self contained?

Or do you have to install either cgminer or bflminer also?

Yup - fully contained.

Hey Anonymailer tried following your instructions in the Block Erupter thread:

Use fabulouspanda.co.uk/macminer

install these drivers http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx

plug in the device, open terminal and run ls /dev/cu*

find your device which will look something like /dev/cu.yourdevice

in advanced options in MacMiner put -S /dev/cu.your device then click apply

click start

you're mining!

I followed the above steps but no luck for me.  Here are my settings:

which led to the following output:

Also tried running with GPU mining enabled but that led to me mining w GPU only
(Block Erupter USB idle LED stayed on, hashrate stayed @ GPU only level)

Am I missing something obvious?

EDIT: Sent you a small donation of 0.1BTC - wish I had more to give Smiley

Thanks for the donation! It's much appreciated.

What you're doing looks right, what version are you running? Unfortunately there's a problem with the options in 10.7 version which I'm readying a patch for as we speak. If running 10.8 please make sure it's v1.1.1 (about MacMiner in MacMiner menu)

If you're on 10.7 it will work with

open Terminal
enter:
/Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin/bfgminer -o pool.fabulouspanda.co.uk:9332 -u yourBTC address -p anything -S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART

many apologies to 10.7 users will get this fixed right away!

Ah, I note your options worked so it must be 10.8 version - if it IS 1.1.1 you're running you may find this an odd fix but please try downloading the 10.7 version and showing package contents on it to /Contents/Resources/bgminer and replace the bfgminer folder in the 10.8 version with the one from the 10.7 version and let me know how it goes. Sorry to have to ask you to test for me but I don't have a device to test with!

Swapping bfgminer w 10.7 version worked - thnx!

Though I may have angered the UI gods somewhere along the way …
(unable to use Start/Stop & "?" button after this visual anomaly)

Just testing a bit on my iMac w 10.8 - will likely leave the mining to my old Mac Pro (10.7) in the long run.

I could have sworn I fixed that before the last update. The latest version should fix both issues. I'm afraid you'll have to quit that bfgminer instance from activity monitor in the utilities folder though, sorry about that!

Glad to hear it's working for you! Are you using MacMiner or running in Terminal?

1.2 is just out, should work with block erupter in MacMiner on 10.7 or 10.8

Would you mind giving it a shot in the latest MacMiner with -S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART in the bfgminer advanced settings window and letting me know whether that goes ok for you?
