Final formula for calculating reward would be:
(user's shares / total shares) * 45BTC for all participating in round; next 5 BTC for block founder.
This should motivate players which pool needs and should not make big loss for others (it is only 10% less in reward if user never find valid block, which is unlikely for loyal miners)

Cool I think that such sounds good... Except you need to announce the username that found the block...

One off NP-Hard.
The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I have written up a description of your system on the wiki a few days ago:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Pooled_Mining

hope it saves you some explaining time in the future. Smiley

Hey, thanks a lot! I will add link to first thread post...

You are probably alone who like this idea  Wink. Still I hope you won't leave us although reward formula won't change Smiley

I would also like it if the founder of the "real" block got 5BTC.

I looked statistic few hours ago and seen smth like 100-110 "Active workers" with 2k+ Mhash/s
Now:
Quote
Active workers (at least one share in last hour): 140
Approx. cluster performance: 4996.607808 Mhash/s

20% peoples doing 60% cluster perfomance?

May be add some information to statistic page?
Like:
Code:
1-10 Mhps    : 50 workers
10-50 Mhps  : 50 workers
50-100 Mhps : 10 workers
>100 Mhps    : 2 workers
Min: 0.2 Mhps; Avg: 50 Mhps; Max: 100500 Mhps

I don't have those stats with exact numbers yet, but there are some strong players with >200mhash/s and many (say ~60) workers with few mhash/s. But it isn't surprising and it does not affect pool fairness or performance in any way. Of course many of blocks was found by strong players, but we have already few blocks between weak workers.

I'm working on better pool statistics right now so maybe I include also this performance histogram.

I'm not talking about fairness. I was just wondering who uses the pool: the poor honest hardworking, middle class or rich bastards. : ^)

Thank you very much, as it would be cool if there was an opportunity to see their own performance in the MHS on the account page.

Already coded (on dev version). Will be released in nearest big update.

I would like to add in a small request too... I'd like to see an automatic refresh on the account page, like a refresh every couple of minutes or so.  I have multiple workers but a few are on a machine that I'm away from, and I'd like to be able to monitor their progress.  In that way I could catch it sooner if one of the workers crashes (which happened last night, but I didn't know until I got home).

In next release is also email notification about worker crash. I think it solve this problem better than watching account page manually...

For those using my miner, please update. The whole single getwork instance work was a bust. slush is just going to have to deal with the increased traffic.

All users: Please update to newest version of your miner!

jgarzik's and m0mchil's miners fixed stability problems when pool is in maintenance mode or temporary down. This should prevent crashes as today, so you won't need restart miners so often.

Diablo's miner fixed important performance issue. Share count will go higher than with previous version for many users.

If you are user of jgarzik's CPU miner, try also new 'cryptopp_asm32' algorithm. It is working well now and improve performance for many users (hashrate is same or better than in official bitcoin client). Thanks jgarzik!

Note that some of these stability fixes are only in cpuminer.git at the moment, not in a released tarball / Windows installer.

After adding diagnostics to cpuminer, I have gotten several 'getwork' failures with HTTP status code '502' when connecting to your mining pool:

Code:
[jgarzik@bd cpuminer]$ ./minerd --userpass user:pass  --algo 4way --url http://mining.bitcoin.cz:8332 --quiet
1 miner threads started, using SHA256 '4way' algorithm.

What's their timestamps? 502 means service is temporary down. It happen time to time. Today it was because I had DDoS attack on server (another service, but server load was >30 for short time). I'm sorry for this, but re-submitting shares again in short period should solve it.

Slush, got two questions for you.

1) Could you update the System statistics page on bitcoin.cz to show the block we're currently working on as a group?

2) If the current block is 100,084 and it is solved by someone else, the next network block would be 100,085.  Does that information get updated with the group or are we all still crunching away @ block 100,084?

I had 3.48 bitcoins when I woke up today! Thanks for the awesome work!
