What is the reason for such dramatic and panic announcement I can't understand. You should know by now that volatility and fluctuation of price are normal and price corrections happen from time to time. You can always earn and you can always lose, that is how things are going with Bitcoin.

You are not the only one who has a huge loss. Though I care at all with the lose that is being gone to me still there's no way for bitcoin get back at $1,000. It's doubtful it will go back to $1k. I would say that low $2,000s are more likely than anything right now, but things can change. I doubt it'll plummet like some people are expecting for it to and we're going to keep chugging along at the values we're been seeing over the past few days/week before we see any market movements of note.

Going to $1000 per Bitcoin is so much drop. We will not go there because of the demand of Bitcoin currently can sustain a price at $2000 if a major drop occurs. I don't think it will be back to 1000 dollars but anything can happen in the cryptocurrencies world. Let us remember that the price of bitcoin was even 160 dollars in the beginning of the year 2015 if I remember correctly, and then it started only going up after that huge crash. I would say you should just wait more. The prices are probably temporary and it can go back up in the next few weeks like it always does. So I think you should not sell yet.

About the prices going back to $1,000, I don't think this is a huge possibility. Historically this has happened, but that's because back then the bitcoin market is really fragile and a single problem that can cause people to drop their holdings, like the mt. gox hack, made the whole market blow up.

Dropped from $3000 is another story, it was a correction because bitcoin in bull run at that time but its price already stable at $2500 for a week.
it just decline as much $100 and seems normal for bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies due to traders want to cash out their profits before they lose this chance. People will buy back again after certain point of price, and we will see how fast bitcoin could grow before August 1st.
I suggest to hold your bitcoin and wait for 2 weeks later if you can, as bitcoin price will recover and surpass $2500 again. In August, bitcoin should reach $3000 due to blocksize problem finally be solved, hopefully.

Bitcoin dropping as low as $1000? Well, that can be possible if all of us at least a big part of all Bitcoin holders would panic and unload their holdings immediately. But given the global scale of Bitcoin, it might not be coming soon. Only a major global catastrophe can blow Bitcoin in that way.

Miners aren't here to change the world, they are here to earn profits, and everyone defending them should understand that. Regarding the OP and his problems, I think he is a bit exaggerating. After all, Bitcoin didn't crash to 1,000 dollars per coin (at least, not yet), and if we assume that he was paid at the maximum price of 3,000 dollars (the worst case), he should have received 1.66 BTC, which would give him at the moment about 4,200 dollars. So his "loss" amounts to around 800 dollars, which is a decent sum but nothing catastrophic. As others have told already, next time the OP should take into account extreme volatility of Bitcoin prices

Great comment! People forget things pretty fast, especially fast if you wave with some green in from of their eyes like you said. I'm far from expert, but your explanation about segwit and how its not the solution for problems touched me, when I think about it all this pint in that direction that this is just a first aid to calm down most of the people, while fees and blocksize will stay as a problem in the background.
For one month we will see segwit in action and many things will be clear after that, 1000$ seems like far away at the moment but with bitcoin price anything is possible.

Receiving payments in bitcoin without immediately converting to fiat means you are playing the bitcoin market. You are relying on the bitcoin market continuing to rise most of the time. It is one thing to run a business and a totally different thing to invest in bitcoin, but it sounds like you are trying to do both?

You don't seem to understand the concept of value vs price at all. The reason for it to decline 60% is because there was no good reason for it to increase by that amount in the first place. People always overbuy assets, and bitcoin suffers from this problem significantly more than the vast majority of investments.

$1 seemed high when it WAS high... before bitcoin's value increased significantly by more vendors accepting it as a currency, improving legal status around the world, and gaining mainstream acceptance. The problem is that when bitcoin gets any minor good news that may increase its value by a small amount, bad investors freak out and buy like crazy, pushing the price up to ridiculous numbers that far exceed the increase in value from the good news. This happens with all assets, but significantly more so with bitcoin than others.

Bitcoin price might fall back to $1000. I know we all are optimistic after the skyrocketing price in 2017. Strangly, i feel like i am the only one who remembers the fact that the community were discussing block size problem and possible hard-fork only a few months ago. Not a single rational argument has been presented in this thread. People are still hanging on to that optimism like never before. It is very evident that very few people have been tracking bitcoin long enough to realize that just because we hit an ATH and adoption increased greatly, does not mean it will never drop. For every single rally up to a new ATH the same cycle repeats. People are so overwhelmingly optimistic and shun anyone who is bearish, as they do in this thread.

For your information, even if we do drop to $1200, hell even $8-900, this does not mean much. It would just mean that bitcoin is doing what it has been doing the past 7 years where you have been able to trade it for money. Adoption is coming in waves and with each waves end comes a correction.

It is evident though that with each adoption cycle, less and less technically literate people hop on board. A good example is to see how people invest in ETH and ICOs, if you would force them to explain how both work, the vast majority would not be able to explain, because if they did theyd realize how bad it is.

I'm not saying this is the end for bitcoin. I'm saying that in all likelihood bitcoin will correct and there will be new highs later in time.

If bitcoin really will be back in the $ 1,000 that means bitcoin experienced the largest drop in the history of bitcoin. Because previously the bitcoin price never dropped that much, and I'm sure it will not happen. Yes, there is a possibility (no matter remote) that Bitcoin can even go as low as $500 just because we all follow where the market is going. It's just normal to see bitcoin dropping down because of the fluctuation rates but $1000 is too far to be worry more about. I think it's just too deep for bitcoin to drop to $1000 even if the chain will split this is way too deep. They drop to $1500 before that hard drop is all i know and they never go down below to that. Point is that there is no way to know whether or not a chain split will happen. If the price happens to go down that far, then at least make sure you use that situation in your advantage. Just don't forget that whatever happens, it will just impact the market in the short term. After a while everything will cool down and settle, and there will be nothing left to hold the price back. Scaling is the only thing we need to get over, and as soon as that is the case, people would wish they bought at current levels -- that's how it always goes.

 Even if I don't share the opinion of cashodler about BTC/BCH, I agree that "Core vs 2x shitstorm" will be huge.
  - Nothing is clear about the near-future for bitcoin (November fork to 2X). If I compare to BCH/BTC fork, we knew at least which coin would stay the real bitcoin.

We don't know if there will actually be a huge number of Bitcoin users in the first place at all. But even if there will be (let's assume that), it doesn't in the least mean that the number of transactions is going to surge massively (at least, proportionately to the number of users). For example, if all or most of these newcomers are going to become traders, they won't transact much, and thus Bitcoin can be "scalable" almost indefinitely in this case

Anyway bitcoin will never go back to that price but maybe $2500, however, as we saw today bitcoin is continue growing and now its $4000 and still rising.
