Afraid of August One?

Im on the decision of taking profit right now and convert my btc into fiat because i am really afraid of august 1, but after reading all the post here i am convince that many people here are being optimistic and see bitcoin will surely rise after the said downfall, and now i realized that the bip148 will surely helps us to make the fees low and for a faster transaction.

If BIP148 is gonna happen. According to this article, (link:  https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/countdown-segwit-these-are-dates-keep-eye/) segwit2x will activate segwit first in July 25 though BIP 91 minimizing the risk of chain split if they follow the agreement in New York thus, BIP 148 will not activate. and since more than 80% of the hash rate are in support on segwit2x although intentional the real signalling is July 21. it seems that miners is in support of segwit after all.

Actually, Miners have very little choice here whether they support SegWit or not.

My advice is don't be a weak hand and sell your bitcoins. don't believe what you see upfront, not everything is true as they appear. be a stong hand who is not easily shaken.

bitcoin will either go up or down. if it goes down, just buy more because the price will just go back again . imo bitcoin and its community is strong enough to withstand the

negative effects that might occur on the given date.

Silly question, no need afraid of aug 1st . nothing will happen to bitcoins. some of the sites guides someone wrong way, but its not good for those. Because bitcoins are market price rises by day passing.

Yes. Bitcoin needs change. The current status quo can't go on forever. But I am still not sure which proposal is going to win in the end. As of now, it seems like SegWit2x has more support when compared to BU.

The impact will affect towards the end of this month, I think bitcoin will return like two months ago where the movement is only played by the market. So far, the news that keeps bitcoin price down makes the bitcoin price higher, I'm part of a community that believes and tries to keep bitcoin stable.

Keeping in the view the SegWit update and the bitcoin price chart since the recent past there is a very high chance that the bitcoin value will increase rather than decrease. So, your investments cannot be a risky business. It is rather safe to wait it and see how the price trend of bitcoin goes in the coming days.

Many people are optimistic about the coming update which will definitely not only increase the bitcoin security and compatibility among other things but also its value which will be a relief to many investors.

true but one counter argument is that segwit is simply a band aid to a much larger problem, and when the bitcoin network outgrows the extra space provided by segwit we will be back to where we are now with the sometimes incredibly long confirmation times and high fees. we need to find a better long term solution also

We are already in July and August 1 is coming...the day when Segwit would start signalling for all and what will happen after this date is something many fear of. Will there be a split and what will happen on the split?

I have already read some assurance that at the current rate things are doing, the possibility for a split is getting remote. Maybe the overarching interest of all stakeholders has already dawned to many.

Maybe August 1st will be the biggest development of bitcoin, bitcoin will be recognized and developed in the world and grown up we should be happy about that. What people always expect it to come, because it will bring us great advantages

Activating segwit is going to be one of the biggest developments when it comes to bitcoin, it will help the network immensely by increasing the speed and reducing the costs of getting our transactions to be confirmed, this is key if bitcoin is to become a payment system used by hundreds of millions or even billions of people, it is the first step but it is a step on the right direction.

You are correct, but at the same time something needs to be done and besides this also helps  bitcoin in the sense that buys time, it will take some time before we are going to be in the same situation we are right now and by that time another solution will probably have been developed already.

As of now, it seems like SegWit2x has more support when compared to BU.

Support doesn't mean anything at this point, even not when SegWit2x gets 100% of the support signalled. Juli 21 will be the day that BTC1 nodes will 'officially' start with showing true and legit support.

If after that miners are still showing the same level of support for SegWit2x, there will be a period of 336 blocks from which a minimum of 269 blocks must signal that the miners are ready for the lock in.

After that there will follow another round of 336 blocks, and if everything runs as it should, then SegWit2x will get activated. From this point things will start to get very crucial for miners, but that's a different story.

If BIP 148 goes through, I suppose nothing matters and the market rallies.

If BIP 148 has only minority hash rate, we will get 2 coins. If the hashrate moves towards BIP 148, then it will orphan the Legacy Chain, there is only one chain and the market rallies.

If BIP 148 has minority hash rate and miners still won't move, then miners have no option but to Hard Fork the Legacy Chain to protect themselves. We will get 2 coins and exchanges will be safe to start trading them. The value of both coins will probably be inferior to that of 1 BTC. But I suspect in the short term, either one coin will come out way ahead and rally, or both will thrive. Who knows.

There is also the off chance that Segwit will be activated before, and I suspect if that happens, the Market will soar very fast.

The thing is, I think it will be very very hard to trade your coins as the events unfold and also very hard or costly to buy into a rally on uncertain circumstances. Therefore, my conclusion, I am buying what I can right now and keep it.

What I am keeping my eye out for is a steep decrease in price before August 1. I would heavily buy into that and hold them dumped coins through the troubled times.

Bear in mind I hold no Millions. So don't put your faith in what I say. All my worth in Bitcoins could be spent in a night out, so I have little to lose and much to gain. I can afford to be optimistic in all the scenarios.

There's also the problem of sending and receiving transactions during the time of uncertainty because you don't know what coins you are receiving or sending. The only way to guarantee you are doing the right thing is by running 2 full nodes, one with regular bitcoin core and other with UASF148 to control both coins. Oh and make sure to get out of any exchange that doesn't list both coins or they will scam you.

Correct. The idea is to stay put until all the forked chains show themselves and are safeguarded by hard forks. Until then, I will hold still, Buy if the price tanks, and get as much stake in every coin possible.

After hard forking, you can just try and trade one chain for another.

This is way too risky. I don't know any whales except Roger Ver, that are pro-Bitmain fork. Everyone else wants to stay on the original chain, so I suspect they will just dump the segwit2x hardforked coins or whatever other fork happens and the price will dump badly on the non-original chain...

I strongly disagree with you. The prices won’t dump at all. August 1st will be a day of grand celebration for all bitcoin holders. It would be another big success. Most of the investors are afraid of this day and so am I. No one should be afraid of segwit. Just have patience and stay positive.

LOL I don't know what will happen on August 1, but I am 100% sure that there won't be any "grand celebration for all bitcoin holders", LOL.

I suspect that sometime this month will occur either a big dump and/or a good shorting opportunity. Price will either recover in late August or dump further.

You must understand the scaling debate. At this point, the parties are so antagonistic to each other that they are willing to risk the security and stability of the bitcoin network. So this is a major market-making month.

I have all my BTC on Electrum since 2013.
Now this hardfork is coming and I'm not sure what to do.

Please can you tell me if I should quickly download BTC core wallet and transfer all BTC there or should I just leave all BTC on Electrum ?

if bitcoin go down in 1st august it's a good opportunity to buy as long as don't panic about the down of bitcoin price its can be a advantage. I tried to hold bitcoin until 1 august I was very curious on that day.

I’m not afraid but I’m cautious the problem is not that segwit is going to be activated, that is fine, the problem is that the miners want to make a hard fork, and there is nothing to see at the moment, segwit was tested for a long time before it was a viable solution and now the miners seems to want to hard fork in a fast track, that could kill bitcoin if there is a bug in the code.

We should just need to be positive because everything will be okay after the august one because bitcoin will just get some upgrades on its system and it might be a good cause for bitcoin or bad because there will be a split in the chain but the only thing that i am sure is, it will have a little dump of the price because of the similar scenario with this title, the people are afraid so they will just sell their bitcoins.

If users affraid on what will happen in that date i think thry need to sell their bitcoin that is simple solution to be made. But me i will hold my bitcoin what ever happen because i beleived that bitcoin will not leave us instead their value will start to increase more due to more adoption will come. Just wait and relax.

There is a difference between being afraid and losing confidence in bitcoin, I think another reason people are afraid is simply that people are always afraid of something they do not understand and bitcoin is so complex that many of us do not understand it fully and any big change to the code is always met with some degree of fear that something may go wrong.

It is not about being afraid, we should keep our confidence strong enough to face any such situation that is expected on august one, and I personally think that bit coins worth wont drop off, it will go up as ever.
So, I think that no body is afraid of august one and nobody should be.

If there is a bitcoin fork and if there is a split in the network you will be able to claim your coins from both the chains if you are having control of your private key,because having the private key gives you the complete control over your coins and since Electrum is a light weight wallet where you have the private key there is nothing to worry.

I'm not afraid of the first of August. Most likely these are false rumors to inspire fear on those who lend themselves to panic and sell coins. Many times already tried to destroy bitcoin, but nothing happened.

The hype is real. Well what can I say, I honestly have no idea what will happen on 1st of august and what will be going on for the next few days but really can't wait for that day to come, I've ever been this existed tbh about something.

Also, on the side note, my dad actually wants to buy one bitcoin and rn I don't know if he should buy it before or after the 1st of Aug.
