I would rather hold 1 BTC holding it in the wallet as a long-term investment and not interested in holding 10 ETH in the next 5 years
Im a fan of eth but my faith is in btc when it comes to long term holding. As bitcoin is more valuable and there's no way to surpass btc by eth. And holding 1 btc versus 10 eth will be more profitable than ever. here is same situation i invest my little money in eth and the half of my investment in bitcoin . Bitcoin have alot of user and bitcoin is more valuealbe then eth. |

And holding 1 btc versus 10 eth will be more profitable than ever. I don't see why eth can't surpass btc in market cap, it has a lot more functionality that would support a higher market cap. In the short term though I think you are right, but I think eth will take the number one spot in market cap sometime next year and that means a price much higher than 10 eth for 1 btc. |

ETH is a part of altcoin and the price could dropped below BTC price, it much better to hold Bitcoin as the price remain stable and you would not suffered with lose that much also you can see the progress of Bitcoin right now with Hard Fork and such. |

Its better to invest both if you have 3000 dollars . Ethereum gives you high profit because they have possible that ethereum price become 1000 dollars. If that happen for sure we earn a lot of profit. And also bitcoin will earn a lot of profit if the bitcoin price hit 3000 dollars in the month of august . More bitcoin and more ethereum that you have more profit to earn in the future.

With $3000 to invest, is there any advantages to either, with the expectations/hopes that they both will continue to grow? Just trying to see what others would do, as I plan to let this initial investment sit for 5yrs minimum in a cold wallet.

with btc price now, i think with $3000, you can get 1 bitcoin plus you still have your money and you can buy eth or etc and then you can keep those coin, waiting for increase. because i think its still good to invest in any of altcoin because altcoin price will be increase too so you can get double profit while you only want to invest and not trading. |

my opinion is wait a little more and when the BTC down like 1400 Band - take a btc and forget 2-3 years  then you'll be found on your wallet x4 x5  ** PS it's an idea I support your idea. It’s really smart move in trading to buy bitcoins when the prices are low. So it’s recommended buying as many bitcoins as possible when the market is facing downfall and then keep them in wallet until and unless prices have reached your desired value. Besides I believe there is no comparison between eth and bitcoins. |

Divide it between the two depending upon your other holdings with more money in BTC than ETH.
This is a safe and sound advice but for those that want to make money they need to understand that sometimes we need to take calculated risks, this is one of those moments, with a fork coming we need to try to correctly predict where there is going to be some action and make money that way, it is not easy but if you master that ability then you could multiply your money very easily. |

For me, I will choose one bitcoin because one bitcoin is higher than ten eth. If your going to invest, I think it is better to invest on bitcoin for you to have a higher profit but you really need patience, perserverance, and diligence for you to become rich. |

If your going to invest and want to become rich, invest with the higher price, invest on bitcoin. Bitcoin is a crypto currency that change its value everytime but compared to eth, it has a larger value. Also, if you hold your bitcoin for a long time, it will grow more and might gave you a lot of money. If you want to become rich invest on bitcoin. |

Invest the 1500 dollars in bitcoin and for sure you will earn profit after few months or few years. And other 1500 dollars is for the ethereum and for sure you will earn a lot o fmoney by holding this coin for few many years.

I think the time to invest in ETH has passed, if I were you I will look for another coin that is not as big but that has great potential for growing, because while some speculate that ETH has the potential to surpass bitcoin that is something that is really doubtful to me since I think bitcoin is going to be the top cryptocurrency for a long time since it has a great advantage over its competitors. |

Invest money to buy 5-6 ETH and rest in bitcoin. Though there are chances that ETH would provide you a better return as compared to bitcoin during a years time from now. As of now bitcoin is on a roll and has crossed 3450$ and will reach soon 4k in coming time.

So you buy 1btc for $3000, wait ten or so years and bitcoin finally gets to that 100k per coin that everyone is dreaming about. You sell your bitcoin and get 100 000 dollars, pretty neat I'd say.
Alternatively, you decide to get 10eth for that $3000, wait this couple of years, maybe 10, maybe 15 and to match your bitcoin earning you only have to hope for it to go up to 10k per coin.
It's now the matter of what one would believe is more probable. For some internet coin to get to 100k and revolutionize the world, get mainstream and become world currency or for some random internet asset to be worth 10k. However the first part seems irrational, I'd think it is actually possible with bitcoin. However, supporters of ethereum believe it has potential to beat bitcoin or at least get near it's price, if it ever happens it seems better to have 10 coins of let's say $5000 per coin, that one coin of $10000, of course in case eth get ever at least half bitcoin's price.

I still believe sharing your investment is the best thing to do as always, if marketcap doesn't shrink you would never really lose money by that way. But profits might be small.

Of course I choose 1 BTC, due to price discrepancies of both parties. I think bitcoin was more superior than ethereum, then if I have 1 bitcoin I can used it into business and investment if matter.
Otherwise, I believe that if I have 1 bitcoin I think it is enough to support my needs or to make simple business that earn income who supports my family needs.

I know this forum is quite old now but for anyone else, definitely Bitcoin. However ETH is doing really well these days and i would diversify. Like 2/3 Bitcoin and 1/3 Altcoin. Don't miss out on cheap alt coins prices.

I would say choosing bitcoin and much practical since over this days it might increase more than $5000+ and currently there is an ongoing update on it. But, if you choose Ethereum it might also increase may be not more than $500 this year, that's my speculation. WISE choice is BITCOIN!

Now is definitely the time to invest in ETH. I've been a doubter for a long time but there's no denying the hype and public awareness of ETH guarantees its got at least got 1 more mega pump in the near future. Go ETH until you see a 5x+ increase and then revisit this topic to examine your long term hold options.
