Most people feel safer with them. Their concerns are rather valid. The only way to defend yourself against a criminal with a gun, is with a gun yourself. What I'll never understand is why ordinary citizens are allowed to have assault weapons though. Those are used for war, and is just overkill for self defense.

in my country the use of guns for civilians like me is forbidden, the use of guns is only for the police and army only, it is their duty to safeguard the security of the country and its people.
in my country civilians do not yet need to use gun as a means of self protection because government and state apparatus like police and army guarantee security for its people.

This Gun control thing has most to do with present day USA. America was a shit-huge piece of land owned by peacock haired natives with names like "star of morning", "Old wolf" living in a primitve tribal society.

Those who are no threat are given disease carrying blankets to save the bullets. There is carnage. A lot of God-fearing white men find this unjust, too much to take, lose there mind and decide to turn the guns against his own brethern. This is where the story reaches its crescendo.

Well then everyone knows it becomes the wild, wild west. The civil war comes. The white man realizes his folly and decides to make a honest and just society. But the seed of sin has been sown long ago.
They fight and kill. The Black men relaizes he's bigger than the white men to be bullied. So he buhs guns too.

So now they all hate each other secretly. So they all now need guns.

True. I've held a gun before. It was a handgun. There is a feel to it, a certain power. I don't know if it's because of Hollywood or a natural curiosity but i really want to fire it on the wall or the ceiling or a dummy. Well, I live in a country where there is gun control policy and most people aren't satisfied with this.

Where there is gun control only two groups will have guns: Security forces and thieves. And the security forces aren't enough to stop all the thieves all the time, so the criminals feel safe to steal/kidnap/kill without worries to be shot as the common citizen doesn't have a gun to protect himself and his family.

Read my post above. There is a very strict gun control policy in my country, what seems to just increase the criminality. Why? Because thieves know innocent people don't have a gun to protect themselves, as the government makes the license process very expensive and complicated.
So these thieves do the crimes they want with the confidence they won't be stopped by their unarmed victims.

The difference is this. There are several kinds of government types. Common law, civil law, and religious traditional law types cover most of them.

South America, except for Guyana, is civil law. What the government says is what is done, except if the people complain a lot. And if the government changes just to keep peace.

The fundamentals of the USA common law are that the local 12-person jury rules in every case that is brought. It isn't a requirement that the accuser and accused have a jury. They can let the judge/magistrate decide if they want. And often it is better if they do this.

But Amendments 6 and 7 to the Constitution says that they can have a jury trial for just about any case. And the jury can decide however they want to decide.

For example, let's say the IRS takes somebody to court because he owes $100,000 in back taxes. If the defendant requires a jury trial, the jury can agree with the IRS, or they can cancel the whole thing, or they can rule that the IRS owes the defendant $100,000. Whatever they want. Jury nullification can nullify laws regarding the current case, and the people on trial. They can almost make new rulings, but only for the case they are jury for. Britain and Canada are similar, as is Australia, and India somewhat. And Guyana, SA, partially.

The SA jury is used to make things to be logical, so that in complex cases, it isn't the judge that is the only one trying to figure out the case. Really, I think that the SA jury is selected to appease the people, so the people can't say that the judge was prejudiced.

This is kinda the point. There are a bunch of people who don't believe the way you do. They want guns to protect themselves. It takes law enforcement way too long to get there, and some times they don't get there at all.

Now here is the dillema for you. Are you going to force people who want to own and use guns to get rid of their guns? If so, how are you going to do it? People are killed today because of misused of Guns,which is improper to government and also caused by the government. The only way level of killing will eradicate is to stop civilians not to have access to use gun.

Although this topic is already old, I just want to drop some opinions about why we need to own a gun. As we know, there are only two kinds of people who live on this planet. The good and the bad. many people wanted to live with peace in their life, to have a peaceful mind is one of the treasures that can't be bought with money. we don't want to have people who are angry with us, so we don't start a war with them or to make them angry. we do a lot of things to stay away from those things. however, there are some circumstances where they are the ones who wants to harm us even though we didn't do anything to them. this is when we need some tools to protect ourselves from this scenario, we don't want them to take our lives for granted. we need to own some necessary tools to protect our lives and love one. We need to have some necessary weapon to do that and the most popular tools are guns.
