Anyone who owns bitcoin will soon be able to receive a new cryptocurrency.
As of block 491,407 on the bitcoin blockchain, another alternative version of the protocol will be launched, resulting in a variant that's being branded bitcoin gold (BTG).
The project, which seeks to improve bitcoin's technology by changing how its competition for rewards is conducted, is the second to launch since August via an increasingly common process called a "hard fork."
Readers may remember the term from the launch of bitcoin cash, the alternative version of the bitcoin protocol that spurred global headlines for unexpectedly creating billions of dollars in value, seemingly out of thin air.

So when is the snapshot? Has it happened yet?

If I understood well the snapshot occured more or less 11 hours ago, but I am not pretty sure about the correct timing.
Anyway it is already happened. If you had BTC on some exchanges probably you automatically get them (if those exchanges supported the fork).

Damn it. I thought it was planned to happen tomorrow.
And what happened with www.btcgpu.org? It didn't work for me now.

it has been snapshotted already, you will get as many BTG as you had BTC in your wallet
but their site being down says alot about the quality of the fork, sadly
on Yobit the price is going down consistently and now its 0.075 for one bitcoin
I expect it to settle down at around 0.04,but lets wait and see

yes, we heard that 16000 blocks premined until 25th october before fork, right?

this is because you want to be the longest chain . Do you plan to airdrop some of these premined coins to us for to build a stable community
or just keep all of them to yourselves?

on the other hand, btc holders again one more time rich!

this not done yet, i see they don't take the final decision about premine, but till now i see there is no premine.
they said they will remove premine, and then saying if there is premine, it will be lower than %1 premine.

anyway release time will answer all these questions.

There will be a small premine <1% the developers are currently working hard for free and im following the progress and looking over the modified code on github eventually these developers will want paying for all the work that has been done and that is where the premined coins will go.

For those of you complaining about a small premine which would you rather have the project being self financed and able to serve the community as best as possible or corporate funding that may want to dictate on the direction of the project

Its no small premine, In other words; when bcg is listed on exchanges, the devs will dump hard.

Well this is another BTC Cash. This is what will happen; it will pump, make a load of us money and then we all can get free BTC and then the long downtrend happens.

I find no announcement about BTG in their website yet.
I don't think cryptopia will even support BTG airdrop. Did anyone get BTG in cryptopia?

How do you split coins?
I have a cold wallet from before the fork.
Is there replay protection?
I control the keys in my wallet.  As I said, this wallet is older than the fork.
What do I do to safely split the coins in my wallet?

The BTG in cryptopia is Bitgem, not bitcoin gold.
You can actually find real BTG market on exchanges like https://yobit.net/en/trade/BTG/BTC
It is being dumped heavily.

This the real Bitcoin Gold or another shit coin ?  Undecided
This is original coin is not a fake, we can see it later many predict that BitcoinGold will be able to rival bitcoin.
all this is still be conversation, whether coins this will be the same as bitcoincash or be a coin better than BCH, tomorrow we will be able to watch its creation of bitcoin gold in world cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin gold looks like THE scam of the year. No blockchain system, no fork, not tokens only futures and a bunch of exchanges that get into the trap and trade this "coins"
Their website is for hours down.
