That has to be one of the most interesting questions I have seen in the forums in quite some time
I always imagine Doog's voice as a wise elderly old man sitting in a rocking chair reading a book.

I'm middle-aged I guess, don't own a rocking chair, and can't remember the last time I read a dead-trees book. Smiley

You're missing out.  If you have a covered outdoor area with a solid floor, a rocking chair is hard to beat.

I'm only grumpy about ebooks because I haven't found many that don't come with drm.

UID 120 and 1470 are for sale. First 0.5 BTC takes the pair of them.

I guess knowing your username would be useful. Or your deposit address. Or a deposit transaction ID.

There's an email address at the end of the FAQ tab for customer support if you prefer to have this conversation there.

I like the just-dice site and I plan to create a CLAM service myself. Don't know if it will be gambling related, but I think would be a good idea to use a server where gambling is allowed, if I decide to provide such a service. A quick googling says that there are problems in some countries and servers can be shutdown if they run a gambling site. Which hosting company does just-dice use to avoid this? I found a list of offshore hosting companies, but they are very expensive compared to standard hosting offers. I don't expect many customers for my site at the beginning, so server costs would be not covered by the site profit. A small VPS would be sufficient, or even just a webserver (but I think a VPS would be better, want to play with Node.js). I can run the clamd server elsewhere.

Hi Dooglus , I am joining to this question.
I also consider create some clam-driven webgame.
I admire just-dice as site that has not been hacked.
In cryptocurrency world, where sites disappears and being hacked, every badly secured service can cause harm to entire "industry".
Can you share with us some tips, how to create secure webservice as yours?
I don't want you to reveal us your company secrets, just some useful tricks that will help us all build secure services. (Or just useful links, I googled before I asked, but maybe not enough)

Thanks :-)

I'm not trying to speak for dooglus, but I think your question is a little too generic to really merit a proper answer.  As you've asked it, the answer to your question is some sort of 4 month course on how to secure a website.  I think you'd get farther if you:

1) Use the CLAM thread to talk to the CLAM community generally (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623147.0;topicseen) (there's an IRC channel as well, which might be more appropriate for conversational style questions with the CLAMmers)
2) Ask a specific question

Good luck!

I don't see how setting up a gambling website is related to CLAM, could be BTC, too. My question was, if Doog can recommend a hosting service which has some protection from laws in restricted countries (for example, what I've read is that you should not run a server in the US, because online gambling is illegal in this country, or you need some special license), but of course, would be nice if he can give some tips for hardening the server as well. JD uses Cloudflare as a service in front of the server, which looks like a good start, if not too expensive.

Uh, here's why I associated your question with CLAM:

I like the just-dice site and I plan to create a CLAM service myself.

Again, I wasn't speaking for dooglus, and really I was addressing Faust Roland, who posted below you asking for some very general advice on website security.

Vote ! http://txti.es/clamour

/clamour, /clamours, and /support also work (and do exactly the same thing). Creative doesn't like us calling it "voting" because CLAM isn't a security.

The 'account' tab on Just-Dice has information about the voting stuff too, and https://just-dice.com/misc/clamour_weights.txt shows how much support each of the registered petitions currently has from Just-Dice investors.

Take your time bringing the site back online, I'm sure its been a stressful day for you and you should be well rested before putting the site back online to avoid making any costly mistakes. I'm sure people will live 1 day without just-dice Smiley

Doog,

Have you ever run any metrics against the likelihood of a particular number or sets of numbers that come up often, or more often that statistically should allow for random?  Just curious Smiley

I've done some tests. The gold standard for random number testing it the die hard test suite. I generated some million numbers (slighty modified version of my Python script, which is linked from the "Fair?" tab on just-dice.com as well), and with different seeds, and all die-hard indicators showed that it is indeed very random.

good to know. I have never felt JD to be unfair and am up a fair bit there over a long time betting carefully with some luck. but I don't think it'd be able to be perceived anyway, or at least it would be hard to trust a perception of it being unfair after losing so this type of thing is the only way to really know

Yeah, I did the same. I think I used a package called "dieharder" or some such, before I first launched Just-Dice.

  http://www.phy.duke.edu/~rgb/General/dieharder.php

I don't have the results, but they were good enough.

Some time ago, I did a million rolls. They looked random enough to me with almost no bias.
