I know. Rather than having the site be down for a week while I migrated the database offline I figured I could do it while the site was up and running. But I was doing it too fast and it was interfering with the bet speed.

It should all be good now though.

Database rows are typically a fixed length. Why use 8 bytes per betid if you think they will always fit into 4 bytes. When you're storing 2 billion of them it makes a difference.

You sure?

Using postgres:
Quote
CREATE TABLE miniBets(
   id   int,  -- this is a 32 bit number
   user_id  int,
   payout  float,
   profit  float
);

INSERT INTO minibets VALUES(1, 1, 23.0, 23.0);

CREATE TABLE bigBets(
   id   bigint,   -- this is a 64 bit number
   user_id  bigint,
   payout  float,
   profit  float
);
INSERT INTO bigBets VALUES(1, 1, 23.0, 23.0);

SELECT pg_relation_size('miniBets'), pg_relation_size('bigBets')

returns:
[8192, 8192]

AKA an int32 and int64 end up using the space, due to alignment.   I would assume the same is true with other databases, assuming you're using a 64 bit machine .. which I can't imagine you're not.  32 bits is for barbarians Tongue No, but seriously I almost never use 32 bits numbers.

Check out gamblingsitefinder.com for a decent list/rankings of crypto casinos. Note: I have no affiliation or interest in it, and don't even agree with all the rankings ... but it's the only uncorrupted review site I'm aware of.

Could we please have a profit chart site/stake/total for the beginning of clam  j-d and whenever you do it?.

I think having it and/or adding and updating it in the weekly invest blog post, could also add a weekly chart if you even  do that, or could do it in this very post to be able to comment on it.

On the side, since things went so smoothly profit wise I think it would be a nice to have for different reasons we could discuss.
Also, if you do it it could be a nice weekly post that could easily be added to facebook so things start rolling there aswell.

I thought about the chart because the current bankroll is 1,569,296.13435058
The profits from bankrolling are 541,992.43526670
and the profits from staking are 1,003,490.4549

As you can see the amount invested its almost as the amount the site profited since the beginning of the time, I'm uncertain what was the initial amount but i believe it was between 50 and 200k.
Perhaps it has been mentioned but i have no memory of anyone never cashing out... I know dooglus has a small test going on which started with a fairly slow amount... I don't know how much it is now or when it started.
Staking reward varies with time and I'm in no position to think about how, lol, also winnings in btc are unreliable since clam price was a rollercoaster.
I don't think anyone that actually stayed long term had lost but i do think way more profits could of been made by going in-out.
In any case you should make your own opinions and invest accordingly if thats your purpose, I'm pretty sure you could get way more advice in the chat of the site.

Dooglas (and others),

Hi I'm new to the crypto game.  But wanted to know what would be the best way if I wanted to stake 1000+ clams or so.  Also I see that many mention that large sellers of clams have to discount heavily?  What discount (if any) could I expect for a 1000 clam stake.

Should I assume maybe I could make 10 clams in profit after every 1000 bets (on average).  Should I also expect that that Clams will deflate in value at a rate around 30% or more per year?  W

When the time comes to convert my clams back into cash or btc, will have to discount heavily?

What's easiest and cheapest way to get started?  Where can I buy a fairly large amount of clams below face value (an escrow type deal?).

Thanks to all who chime in on this.

First of all you should read the FAQ of the site, you will find a lot of usefull information there.

You could use chat commands to get more information, for example: /help /supply between others. The chat itself is a pretty usefull source of information.

I think right now 1000 clams is a bit short to go solo stake  but thats your choice, you can invest them on just-dice or other to stake more stabily.

If you want to avoid slippage you can try to find bulk traders on the just dice chat and use the /escrow feature.

Thanks for the response.

What solo stake size would be preferred; 5000 clams?  Also what kind of slippage is typically there when one buys or sells in the thousands?  And should I assume that CLAM will deflate but their conversion to bitcoin correlate well.  Or could CLAMs deflate and also trade super weak relative to bitcoin regardless what btc does?  Obviously there is long run profit on the house betting side but how does this get offset by the other concerns?

I cannot tell since I stake only few clams, I think 5000 would be enough to get going but it's probably about wallet size faith and point of view. You can check the poloniex market rates or bittrex but remember that if you wait enough you can always buy/sell to gamblers or whales if you patient.

Not sure what I could say, CLAM deflation should have a smaller effect thru time passing. The last "digger" we had raised the supply enormously yet the market cap is bigger now even if price went to 10% (or less) of what it was in the day.
Imho you should have a look at the markets yourself, I think gamblers make the price raise inevitably since no one has the patience to wait for big sellers sometimes big winners just dump everything and desestabilize the market but it regenerates fast.
Buying or selling thousands will likely move the price a bit.

I think that with adoption and time the supply growth and "undug supply" won't matter.
It's hard to give a fair answer to your questions since my lack of knowledge in the market for most surely obvious reasons and because my also obvious faith in the coin.

Also I'd think its a bet on btc as well.  Since if btc tanks it normally takes all the alt coins with it.  This may change down the road but I'd think one would have to assume btc inflation can offset clam deflation.  The hidden clam supply does concern me.  Strange that majority of the supply isn't in circulation.  Prices could crater with new suppy or big seller.  That's why I'd think anyone with 1000+ to 10000+ clams would take a discount to offset some of their risk.  I tend to speculate in many things and I want to take a run at this but would like to get my initial stake on a discount.  Those who have volume to sell please let me know.

Could we please have a profit chart site/stake/total for the beginning of clam  j-d and whenever you do it?.

The profit at the beginning was zero. It wouldn't make a very interesting chart.

The all-time and recent profit charts are linked from the 'stats' tab of the site. I keep them pretty up to date.

Daily stating information is also linked from the stats tab.

I think having it and/or adding and updating it in the weekly invest blog post, could also add a weekly chart if you even  do that, or could do it in this very post to be able to comment on it.

The weekly post is for proof-of-solvency purposes. It allows investors to see that I'm including their coins in the total I am holding.
