Ukraine was not a sovereign country during IIWW.

It was an occupied country that was very much not in favor of being occupied by the Soviets. When the Nazis came, Ukraine welcomed them, and stayed neutral, in hoped that the Nazis will drive out the Soviets. Then the Soviets and the Nazis decided that the self-proclaimed "neutral" Ukraine was strategically important, and started killing each other, and everyone around them, all over Ukraine.

Again, thinking that Switzerland role in IIWW is somewhat related with their gun policy is way beyond retarded.

Ok, forget Switzerland. What is the best way for a country, or the people, to protect themselves when another country's dictator comes rolling in? Would that be by spending the prior decades passing gun control regulation and disarming everyone but the military, which may or may not want to fight for your side?

Military rifles are carried in the open by security/police in many countries in the world, especially in airports. In every country in the world you have "government thugs" and security employees carrying guns, nothing to be surprised about.

The reason I was surprised is because I didn't see that in airports in Italy, UK, Germany, or even US. And I've been to a lot of airports in the supposedly gun-totin' US. Most they have is pistols, not full on rifles, slung over their shoulders

And BTW, just to finish the Switzerland digression: the vast majority of firearms in possesion of Swiss citizens are directly provided by the State, with always sealed ammunition to be opened only in case of exercise or war.

Isn't that the best and cheapest way to protect a country? In USA, we don't have a government giving out guns to everyone. On the contrary, people are freaking out that some other people even HAVE guns. I think it would be great if US was like Switzerland, and everyone was properly trained on firearms use, and given guns and ammo. But since that's not happening, people have to resort to the next best thing, and acquire them themselves.

I for one wouldn't accept any kind of military training, as I didn't when it was mandatory in my country.

If I'd live in a place where I'd feel that I need to carry a firearm because the risk of being murdered by another firearm is too high, I would just fucking move. I don't give a shit about countries, flags and whatnot, so there is nothing making me to stay in one place if I feel that my family could be in danger, and I know for sure I don't want my kids growing around firearms.

It's simple, those who ignore rights don't give a shit either way. I'm not going to place myself at a disadvantage because some crazy people think weapons (firearms) cause violence.

Humans will aggress. We are a small step more advanced than wild animals. I don't go walking in bear country without a weapon because I value my life and I will protect it from harm. I'm certainly not going to walk in "human country" without a weapon.

I will give up my weapon on the day that I can purchase a permanent, impenetrable force field for my family, my friends, and I. Until then, I use the next best thing, a firearm.

Anyway, this isn't up for debate, so I don't understand all the debate surrounding it. I will not relinquish my right to self-defense.

The comedy is that this "debate" is often started by someone outside the USA that would not want to be a subject of the US Government enforcing its will upon them in their country, but who thinks that the US Government should do so on its own citizens without limit.

It is great to run from a fight.  So long as there is a safe place to run toward.

Let me assure you that is has nothing to do with fear or insecurity. I carry a firearm for the same reasons I regularly check the tire pressure on my vehicle. I carry a firearm for the same reasons I use Bitcoin Armory. I would carry a firearm in a large city as well as in the middle of nowhere.

You will not see any significant/relevant pro-gun movement in most of Europe. We could say that gun-nuts exist in Europe, but they are pretty voiceless and considered just crazy nutjobs. In the US gun-nuts have a very loud voice, and they consider themselves as a pillar of their community, a representation of the will of their beloved founding fathers.

As long as you are throwing around names like "nutjobs" to people that disagree with you, what you say will always be discredited.

If you are not allowed to own a gun, you are a subject at best, a slave at worst.  In neither case are you free.

I don't fly a lot.  But there was one time I was in a NY at JFK airport, waiting for a flight.  Two very big men with very obvious semis or full auto rifles came down and stood beside a doorway.  A minute later, someone who I did not recognize, but obviously thought himself to be incredibly important, came out of that door way.  The two very armed body guards escorted him out, one on each side of him.  It was very odd.

Great attitude, but it made me think of something.

Would you sell your rights?  Say one of these gun-haters would pay you a thousand btc to hand over your gun rights.  Maybe gun rights could be rented, when you need them?

That way you wouldn't need to carry them around all the time.  Of course, there would be the problem of banks banking gun rights.  How would we know they weren't issuing paper gun rights, like paper gold?  What if they started fractional reserve gun rights?

That's not what he means. He means that everything's fine until someone or something goes wrong.

If a population have guns, they are more likely to die if something goes wrong because you can kill more efficiently with guns than with your hands & feets.

Hands and feet are free and used in about double the murders in the U.S. than rifles. So if you had any intellectual consistency, you would be calling for the preemptive full amputation of all human beings' limbs and not just the most effective tools for statistically overwhelmingly non-lethal self-defense against violent crime, guns. Good luck killing anyone with just your head and torso!
