should I try using more threads than 8?  seems my 3770k won't go higher than 1700pps.. which is nice considering when we started i was originally getting 400..   I can't seem to get the 2 or 3k other people are showing from their 3770k's     using the ivy only build.. on win7...   tried to compile on ubunut though my vm but it seems I fail or are using the wrong distro

my 3770 only gives <1500, and I am not seeking to improve it.

How many cores do you have? There is no point in using more threads than you have cores. You may get a higher PPS, but that's just because the sieve isn't weaved as much in the same amount of time from the threads fighting each other. You can accomplish that with less thread infighting by setting the -gensieveroundlimitms launch parameter at lower than 1000, but despite the higher reported PPS that won't actually make you mine blocks faster at too low of values. (The default 1000 might even be too low on some slower computers.)

Would your ivy bridge build be best for haswell?

The Ivy Bridge build will work well on Haswell. It doesn't have every instruction set available on Haswell, but most. I am probably done compiling for the night (yay, Friday!) but maybe another kind soul will build you a core-avx2 optimized daemon.

How about my outdated Nehalem?

It will work on it but it will not have compiling optimizations, only code optimizations.

Can you share your source code?  Did you modify Sunny's algorithm at all?

sorry not a coder per say, was on the irc channel getting stuff compile and tested on an amazon instance.. takes a bit of work, and you need to convert a primecoin address to btc add.. etc..

Does anyone know if BFG miner has a working build?
We're seeing like 2000 PPS as a minimum with this test build.

This is my AMD Phenom II 710 X3 Unleashed to 4 cores.

Looks right in line, my AMD Phenom II X4 920 is sitting around 1250 primes/sec

I also run on linux, so I thought I'd share my little bash startup script in case others can use it:

This'll give you a little readout to watch your balance and miner info, when you quit (ctrl+c), it will then kill the primecoind process for you

You should not use kill -9 on any program except under horrible circumstances.
Anyway, here it's best to use: ./primecoind stop

All day yesterday tried all optimized assembly are laid out. Mined zero blocks. Turned on the official client, and 4 hours found 2 blocks. High PPS on the screen is good of course, but the sense of these numbers I do not see, at least for AMD processors.

You can't really consider using amazon equipment for a lil cash, "earned".... like... AT ALL!   I wouldn't call it stealing either.. but it is an unfair advantage to the common folks with decent machines that want to mine for the greater good or to support a dev.. or to make some profit's.. but when it's a solo mine only coin.. that nobody can mine anymore.. because of a small group of people that found per hour access to cpu's.. sure great idea.. but so were asics..  look what that did to bitcoin... how many of you without asic's are mining for bitcoin?  none?

Using EC2 to mine is expensive. Miners are taking onboard risk using the service, there is no guarantee of a return. The coins mined there are very much earned indeed.

Small group of people? EC2 are publicly available to all, anyone can use the service. You just have to put your hand in your wallet and take a gamble. Some people cannot or will not do that.

I do not see what the issue is with ASIC's on bitcoin. The network is now much better secured against a 51% attack than ever, ASIC's give a much lower hash/watt than CPU or GPU or even FPGA miners could ever dream, and you can buy an ASIC miner yourself for only $90 bucks and have it arrive in less than a week. Yes, there are less people mining, but those who remain still increase the networks security from a 51% attack due to how large of an order of ASIC's the vandal would need.

Also, amazon instances are not an unfair advantage. You are free to use them yourself, the order process is painless, at most you would loose than a dollar, and setup time takes less than half an hour. You are as free to do this yourself as they are. Mining on EC2 is just as beneficial to the "common good" and the devs than a single CPU miner, if not more. Want to make a profit? Well, competition is ramping up, as it should be.

Also, using amazon's second largest CPU instance gives you less than 1,500 pps. It makes more sense to just buy the hardware yourself to mine than to use a VPS.
