To all those wondering what happened.

It was not marketing nor anything QRK related. That's just FUD.

Almost all alt-coins were pumped 100-300% in the last few days. Also lots and lots of new hashing all of sudden (which caused the problems yesterday).

Just look at the charts at http://coinmarketcap.com/

If you're big player, pump, mine & dump (maybe?) new coins with low diff sounds like a plan.

All of this started when BTC hovered between 900-980, as if big players we're laying preparations on the alts for when BTC goes above 1k.

Now in hindsight it seems kind of logical that alts will try to somehow (as best as they can) follow BTC's growth, but at the same time, this was clearly an all around orchestrated pump.

If BTC were to really skyrocket and go to >2-3k I highly doubt alts can follow.

Be careful during these following days.
I already offloaded the 1.5m or so coins I had

I started mining again for kicks, too

ed: aha, here we go,  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=260031.msg3311965#msg3311965

i did have like 4 or 5m at one point, though.

this recent price increase is artificial, some person w/ no clue got on crypsty and bought every single alt coin.  i dumped as soon as i saw it

a lot of people would like to thank you  -

for what?  selling my quarkcoins at ~0.000035?  yeah, i missed the top, but so what?

are you inferring that you purchased them at this value, 70x higher than it was a few days prior?

ed: maybe i'm missing something obvious here

What amazes me is that people still don't realize  what is happening.

What's your take on it?

I suspect his take is a lot like mine... some fool with too much money put a lot of bitcoins into Crypsty and then bought every single alt currency on the market.  Look at all the charts

j

it's back up right now, but might not be for long, haha     nogleg.com:8372

i have been mining on it by myself for a few hrs

ed: i'll reset the p2pool now back to 0 shares, so if you wanted to mine on it, now would be the time to start.. i'll keep it up for the next 12 hrs at least.. have a backup pool set  Grin

ed2: i'll restart it once more, so it's even.  lots of DOA at start because share difficulty takes a while to adjust

There is a lot happening for Quarks, and 2014 seems like a promising year with many new sites accepting QRKS coming out. When all of these sites are out QRK prices will soar. Besides, when a coin has a strong community like Quarks, the only way is up. Don't trust me, do your own research.

The fact is that anyone selling now is selling their Quarks to "smart money" investors. If you don't know what smart money means, then buy a couple of thousand now for almost nothing, and sit on it, by the end of 2014 you will know what "smart money" means.

What do you consider smart money. You suggesting qrk will be like ltc in 14?
I'd be very surprised if it reaches $2 in 5 years.

See, first off 100s of cryptocurrencies available, Quark technicals is in the top 5 (minimum).

Second, it's designed to be a true cryptocurrency -- no mining @ speed of light; only the existing is circulated.

Third -- No premining by devs, it's completely fair.

Any reason besides popularity that quark will not succeed? Besides in this age 5 years is like a century. It's impossible to predict that far.

No coin got pumped that much, quark's value rose times higher suddenly, higher than anything else at the same time.

There was no single large order; there were a lot of large single sellers (like you).

By design, I think initially quark is supposed to be owned by a handful early adapters, and it's distribution should be done by their selling it.

well, my distribution is done.  i sold the first few millions for around .00000150, so i was happy to take .00003500,   which I think was artificially high due to a single buyer & then you have the bandwagon jumpers

i would consider buying back in at .00000250 or so

and my pool got its first block in about 35 days! woot

Oh no it'll never get that low again. I was planning to buy but I had payment issues to buy bitcoins (Oh, you know, Visa, master card, bank transfer etc... etc... etc...). You see, I'm not in the US.

Now Quarks have the popularity and the technicals; and this's all what's needed to drive a cryptocurrency.

The only reasons one would scream to sell is so he can buy low or so that crypto sinks and others (that he holds) raise. And I'm sure it works pretty well.
