My personal tactics when market is falling is I would always invest on altcoins and bitcoin, when it goes up then that's the time that I got some increase in my wallet. We may have similar tactic but for me it is the best thing to do when it is red days.

I am a relative newbie but have remained pretty calm during the difficult last week or so. The markets are falling significantly again, is this still relatively normal and is the best advice just to HODL? Moving forward I think I will set stop losses on all holdings to protect my capital against falls like this.

Well yes, it is best to hold your coins and also if you can afford to buy then buy as much as you can. Wait for the market to rise up and then that's the time you'll sell your coins.
