If you look back at previous market trends, when bitcoin is marking strong positive gains then the Alt market stays stagnant or possibly even declines. This is because money pours into bitcoin in order to make the short term gains that a strong move offers. There was a very big move out of alts and into bitcoin leading up to the bitcoin gold fork. Then when bitcoin was rocketing in Nov & Dec 17 alt coins were bleeding satoshis as everyone wanted in on the parabolic movement of bitcoin. Then when bitcoin starts to consolidate money pours into alt coins and they start making big moves. This happened around mid Dec 2017.

I think that bitcoin taking such a hit has dulled faith for the fringes of investors and it will take some time in the green to see that money coming back into the crypto market.

In short - When bitcoin starts to move sideways load up on the alts because they will start to rocket.

I'm in this world from a recent time but I have understand one thing, Bitcoin is the Leader of coins.
IF Bitcoin goes +100% all market will rise, if Bitcoin does -50% all market will crush.
IF (put random name) coin does +100% market will be stable.

Previously, when bitcoin skyrocketed altcoins declines. But during the December peak, bitcoin market flourished so I don't agree that the trend follow bitcoin. Times has changed now, no more altcoin is down because bitcoin is going up.

We have set of new buyers willing to go in any time now. Plus most investors are really for the long haul that's why I don't see any movement of funds going to bitcoin to altcoin or vice versa.

So even if bitcoin goes up, chances are some altcoins specially in the top ten will go up as well, from my own view.

With a few exceptions, altcoins largely trade in lockstep with Bitcoin. When Bitcoin is thriving, alts are thriving. When Bitcoin is crashing, alts are crashing. This may be because so much of the trading volume of alts is denominated in Bitcoin, so market cap as a function of trading volume by definition means that the value of alts falls as Bitcoin falls. However, it is also likely that when money flees Bitcoin, it also flees altcoins and isn't solely a function of being denominated in btc.

Both Bitcoin and altcoin have their own strengths and weaknesses and I think that if possible investors should invest in both to reduce the risk and increase profits. I believe the natural place to be for Bitcoin is around 80% of marketcap share dominance, and this will eventually come as the altcoin bubble pops, because clearly, the utility of the altcoins out there is near 0 except a very reduced number, and this is not sustainable, it is for a while, inasmuch a Madoff scheme is sustainable, but eventually tower of cards will collapse and said cards don't disappear, they will be put into the Bitcoin box making it around 80%.

This does not mean you should stop looking for good altcoins. Even after all the scams I've been through, I still dedicate some time to altcoin research. It's only a matter of time we see something good coming other than Bitcoin related improvement proposals.

I don't think so this is the case. Only some alts which are just pump and dump coins are at stake. Good potential alts are still standing strong with Bitcoin.
Today while Bitcoin showed a 3.76% increase, Ethereum gained 5.69% which is much more than the pioneer. Infact alts like Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero have much better successful projects than bitcoin and also have more unique features. Litecoin has a better blockchain and Monero being completely anonymous, is more secure in making transactions. Bitcoin however has a first mover advantage and is considered as a brand for the cryptos.

Right. Perhaps a good 60-80% bitcoin dominance will be a fair estimate. That's why market cap is not really a good measurement specially for alt coins in terms of its real value in the market. Most of the time is it pump beyond believe and then bitcoin dominance falls back. But if you are going to look at it, doesn't really makes sense for a coin to be pumped above 100% and gaining dominance and then the next day it collapses.

But this is a normal case with altcoins, whenever the price of Bitcoin is going up, not all of them do follow up, rather they even reduce in price rate.

It can go back to the up trend. Going up and down or sideway is just the market's sake.

Currently the entire crypto market is in the bearish trend. Bitcoin looks a little stronger than other altcoins and moreover bitcoin even showed a small uptrend not so long ago. Most of the altcoins are down 90% from their peak valuations in 4th QTR 2017. Only a few cryptos have fared better and these include Ripple, Stellar and Ethereum. Others like Cardano and NEO have witnessed bloodbaths.

Unfortunately, this is the truth. Many altcoins will die in several years, man. I guess, that the main task for most of us now is to realize which of the cryptocurrencies will survive.

yeah, the price of Bitcoin is rising well and increas is high, it looks like other coins are difficult to keep up with the increase in the price of Bitcoin. When investing in the market, I always believe that bitcoin and altcoins are bound for success and because of that I don't panic when I see bitcoin is rising and altcoins are falling as I know it's just temporary for altcoins, eventually altcoins will slowly recover and will rise altogether with BTC.

There are some altcoins which are already rising now but we know it's very small compared to the total legit altcoins, but we need to be patiently waiting for the time, otherwise we will not experience the success.

There's some reason why some altcoin are still not move up but in the end that altcoins will follow the growing price of bitcoin.Just be patience because not all will get easy in crypto it takes time to grow.

People are all expecting a breakout from the altcoins but I know that it will take much more time before it happens. It's 1 and a half year before that even happened and I think 2 years will be enough for our wait. You guys better stocked up those good projects that has sunked down 100x and above from their moon price because they will make lucrative roi when it start to rise.

Only popular altcoins are showing improvement, some of them are not even moving. This is the reason why other investors are selling their altcoins to switch in bitcoin because the growth of btc has a good impact for traders to assume bull run might happen for this year.

Bitcoin is the no.1 cryptocurrency in terms of the number of users and acceptability and that is the reason why it continues to increase in value. The value for most of the altcoins come from speculation that at some point of time in the future they may be able to overtake Bitcoin in some or all the spheres. But now it looks like these alts are not capable of doing so and therefore they are going down and BTC is increasing in value.

The altcoins will indeed suffer for a while because of a very bullish Bitcoin. It is going to be a red sea of altcoins for the next weeks or so. But of course there will always be some little spikes. It will never be about free fall. Altcoins are always great choices. When the smoke of Bitcoin rally goes down, be ready to buy a lot of altcoins because their turn will follow.

We will not know what will happen later, the market may suddenly fall and rise for several reasons. The cryptocurrency market will definitely resume, unless altcoin doesn't have good development of course they will fail, the blockchain has a good future in the economic field.

Bitcoin is getting very stronger and a lot of investor of bitcoin is very happy right now because the price is continue to rise while a lot of altcoin now is not showing a good perforamance on there price but i am hoping that soon the price of many alts will rise again.
