Guys, everything is rebrand exept the R9 290X HD7970 = 280X HD7850 = 270X HD7770 = 260X
So, The R9 290 boasts 2,560 stream processors, the current top model, HD7970 has 2048.
Simple math tells us that the 290X should have around 20% better results than a 7970.
So lets say a HD7970 gets to 750Kh/s, a R9 290X should get around 900Kh/s. Simple math, and then there is overclocking, a HD7970 that runs 750Kh/s is obviously OC'd pretty hard, so I am only just picking easy numbers on that one.
Your math is wrong. All things being equal (they won't be) 750Kh/s would extrapolate to 1031Kh/s for the 290X (37.5% more shaders) and 937Kh/s for the 290 (25% more shaders.)

Are you sure that the following is just rebranding? HD7970 = 280X HD7850 = 270X HD7770 = 260X Last I heard they are going to improve the performance instead of just rebranding. Thanks

Thanks Well, i've seen reviews but that is just upping the core 50 Mhz and you get 1 FPS more... And the 270X has 1280 cores, so the hd7850 core has been improved but not by much. (I think a hd7870 has 1280 btw).

I think 7990 will be better in terms of speed , they work 1400khash+ dont they? For 650€ wich is supposed to be the cost of 290x you can get 3x 7950 and get 1800khash+ out of it. I doubt 290x will be able to top that.
The 280x might be best/most optimal mining card in terms of €/khash if they come out at 200€ and have the same speed as 7970.

I'm on same page here with you. No way 290/290X is worth that money, 3 x 7950 and when you sell you lose much less on three 200$/€ card then on one 650$.

Same 28nm production process, chip is bigger than 7900 series. Not sure it can be more energy efficient. The only question is what GCN2.0 brings.
